Prove to me with figures that a G20 country has the same record as the US in terms of mass shootings.

We've known the answer for decades: all crazy people have easy access to guns.

    Prove it.

    They aren't civilians.

I hope you understand the difference.

To have an argument, pro 2A are forced to compare the US with poor countries.

    This is where you are.

There is no country in the West that has more permissive gun laws than the US.

And one of the highest homicide rates.

    Period.

It's funny that you're asking someone to prove something when at the same time you're making a statement that all crazy people have easy access to guns but you want him to prove that no amount of gun control is going to prevent it.

But yet you're claiming they already do despite laws prohibiting them.

He doesn't have to prove anything because you just did it for him

    I said exactly the opposite.

    And I go even further.

The pros 2A defend the right of all the crazy people in America to be the best armed in the world.

    You said exactly this.....

We've known the answer for decades: all crazy people have easy access to guns.

So you mean to tell us that the laws that prohibit crazy people from having guns are not preventing crazy people from having guns?

    Tell us more.

Insanity might be genetic, but criminality isn’t.

I say the laws are far too permissive.

    What don't you understand?

Go get yourself a coffee if that helps.

The murder rate in Australia is at 0.74. The rate in the USA 6.81, two years ago, and for sure higher today. So our rate is 9 times greater than yours.
So- two things are key questions. Why is this true, and how do we fix it.

We have laws against murder. Obviously, those laws are not controlling the people who want to kill. We also have people going berserk over "assault" weapons as well as guns in general, but in fact, more people are killed here each year with fists and feet, beaten to death, than are killed with all kinds of long guns combined. This would clearly say that the gun is not the problem- the violent person is.

That would also say that laws restricting guns may impact the law-abiding citizen who would not be a threat anyway- but would have no effect on the criminal. Such laws also create an illusion that the gun IS the criminal, and causes people and government to focus on what is not the problem.... allowing the problem to grow.

People are violent when two things exist. One, they are frustrated, angry at life or people, and do not accept responsibility for themselves. Two- These people do not regulate their own behavior, they blame it on others. They express that by punishing those others, perhaps an individual who they think has hurt them, or is in their way, or perhaps anyone because they are offended by people appearing to have what they cannot. That might be money, confidence, happiness or whatever.

People who self-regulate don't need laws, they do the right thing because it is the right thing. People who refuse or are unable to self regulate must be controlled; they are the primary reason criminal law is necessary. IF the laws that would control these people are not enforced adequately, it's about the same as having no laws. The prevalence of violence here, combined with the poor rate of murders solved (under 50% overall, as low as 30% in some places) tells us that the violent element in our society is not being removed- and so long as that is true, we will have a violent society.

The liberal element in America likes to experiment with ideas that sound good or become popular- without looking at the long-term effect. A prime example is the defund the police movement, cutting both the size and authority of the law enforcement elements, then adding the prosecutors who won't prosecute, and gaining political control in some states that have reduced the penalties for crimes- and it's pretty obvious that those movements are responsible for a great deal of crime, from gang shoplifting to murders. They somehow think criminals are victims of a society that has failed to make them happy, and appeasing them will solve the problem. The people who think that way- ARE the problem, because they insure we can't solve the problem.

Your point about carrying a gun... indicates you may think that being a victim is somehow a better choice than refusing to be a victim. This is a choice, of course- and it's individual, not something for the society as a whole to decide. So long as the threat of violence is high, and so long as the protection of law is low, many people will choose to be able to defend themselves.

Carrying a gun- is a pain in the ass. Most are heavy, bulky and fairly uncomfortable to wear all day. Not fun. But if you have a gun and don't need it, that's all it is. However, if you need a gun and don't have one, you will be a victim without a chance- and you may be dead. And if you need protection from violence, the need is urgent; even if the police are called, they will arrive after the fact. That's why so many honest and honorable citizens here carry guns. You might say- predator protection. If our system took the predators out, it wouldn't be necessary at all.

Guns simply are not the problem- violent people are. Until our government decides to focus on that and control it, the safety of an individual is mostly in their own hands.

He'll be a serial stabber instead! Like @JohnHamilton said, crazy's gonna crazy. We need to reform mental health, not merely in accepting more people but in making it okay to admit mental health problems and not feel like a financial death sentence for admitting 'Yeah, I might be bipolar'(for example)

Australia has a population of 25 million compared to 350 million in the US. Stop comparing other countries to the US.

    Really?
Socialism in action in America, there is some hope.
I imagine it is basically a lottery depending on where you live in America to be able to get free mental health care.

No, it's more of a personal awareness/choice, sadly most people with mental disorders don't think they they have mental problems..

We have to solve our social problems if we are to have any hope of solving our violence problem.
 On that we agree

So getting help for mental illness is nothing to do with the cost anywhere in America? If you think you need help you can get it completely for free very quickly? Who pays for this provision?

You walk in to a medical center or dial 911 and tell them you are thinking about committing mass murder, I promise you, you'll get free medical attention..

Test it, lemme know how it goes ;)

Do you mean it has to get to the brink of a spree killing before you get free help?
When the help is free for the distressed person who pays those that help?
