Most of the college elite seem to think if you dont have a college degree, you are worthless.

Today Trump is going to Wisc to promote trade school education.

So here is the question. Sat when your air conditioner goes out, who will be the most valuable person to you, a person that went to a trade school and was educated on heating an air conditioning, or a college grad that has a degree in medieval art and poets?????????????

So value in that specific situation is all that matters?

    Pretty much.

Who's going to fix your car?
Who's going to fix your plumbing?
Who's going to fix your roof?
Who's going to fix your washer or dryer?

So because we need people we trade skills, we don't need or want anyone with non-trade skills?

Actually, this is a pretty good plan .. Its a six year commitment that will be funded with $1 billion a year.

Evidently knowledge is no longer power; is lack of knowledge now more powerful?

    Huh?

"Most of the college elite seem to think..."

Do you have a link or a reliable poll/study/survey/etc. (to back up this claim).

Your OP is based on an unfounded assumption (and a hideously flawed premise).

Obviously, beyond pointing out the problems with the OP, it isn't worth commenting on further.

    of course not.

he's just assuming that EVERYONE who has a college degree thinks they are superior to those who do not.

the real issue is that many folks who have no degree feel INFERIOR to those who do.

I have a masters degree and taught college writing skills. I didn't find it held me back when I left education and started my own small construction business.
I also find that many conservatives, you included, on this forum put down others (the college elite, the *******s, the snowflakes). Your point appears to be moot.

Well, that seems to be a problem that those without college degrees should do a better job in dealing with.

Nobody should ever feel "inferior" to anyone based on a lack of a college degree.

There are way too many diploma mills, and online "colleges" that are a complete joke.

Pretty much anyone (even a functional illiterate) can figure out a way to get a "college degree" nowadays.

And, I completely LMAO at the premise of biased "opinions" aimed at "college elites".

None of my high school friends who went to trade school and became electricians, plumbers, machinist's, etc. were laid off in the great recession of 2008. With a Master's degree, I did! So, while they may not of made as much money as I did, there is something to be said about job stability!

Being one who is highly educated and having had a career as a product designer, I have a different view on the subject.

First off, I'm a Green and keep my home cool in the summer using more energy efficient, economically friendly methods. None-the-less, if I had an air conditioner, I doubt I'd call a repairman as I have intimate knowledge of the workings within an air conditioner. After all, the principles of the technology behind air conditioners are well taught in early physics classes - classes that both scientists and engineers have to take. And, the big and, I have designed heat pumps. Air conditioners are little more than specialized heat pumps. Even the control boards used on commercial heating/air-conditioning units tend to be somewhat standardized control boards that are used in all manner of industrial controls - things that most engineers and scientist, and many technicians, are familiar with.

There is this story concerning Enrico Fermi. He was traveling cross county when his Italian made car broke down. The mechanic in the local town was quite limited and told Fermi that he would not be able to fix his car. However, Fermi, being a physicist, was well versed in the theories behind the workings of internal combustion engines. Using that knowledge, and the trouble shooting skills, that all good scientists, and engineers, tend to have, Fermi was able to guide the auto mechanic into fixing his car and was soon on his way.

With some of the antics these colleges are producing....it might not be long where some colleges have credibility and others with a name for extreme activism produce graduates whose resumes might be trashed because of the name of the college on it.

What business wants a hire who was taught to have contempt for white people and doesn't want to be around them? Or believes in rioting as a means to achieve an agenda rather then rule of law?

Would you mind naming those "bad" colleges?

It rather seems to me that the caricature of colleges in your mind was planted there by right wing indoctrination.

I have rarely come across something in my house that I can't fix myself (I am a R1 university chemistry professor). I just usually don't have the time to fix these things, and, thus, outsource (i.e. higher the plumber etc.)

If I need my car fixed I find a good mechanic. If I need my taxes done, I find a good accountant. I probably end up paying the mechanic a bit more dollar-to-dollar; because there are less qualified, trustworthy mechanics than there are accountants.

Trade schools are important; we should invest in more of them and make them cheaper for the average person.

    - I'm a College graduate; worked in solar for three years in my twenties; know a bit about electrical work, roofing and piping; but also know enough to know I'm out of my depth on most things mechanical, and therefore I respect anyone who's got expertise in the trades.

Perhaps this might provide some focus to the conversation. For liberals, their advanced degrees are usually the only demonstrable achievement they are ever likely to be able to show off. That art history degree is vastly more important to them than the barrista position they hold down at the local starbucks...

The more corrosive conversation, though is the classist POV of liberals. The assumption being that their demonstrated achievement (said degree) is the ticket to the never have to work club. Effectively creating policy that allows them to functionally never produce anything and only ever "consume" from the economy is the whole point of the socialist elite. They become the "deciders" if you will in the economy, and hence never have to worry about who fixes stuff because it just magically happens for them because of their so obvious elevated status in the world.

Reminds me of a true story about Aldous Huxley. A very intelligent man, an academic too. Once after someone he was visiting could not get the gas stove to work, Aldous, as was his style, launched into a historical and technical treatise on gas stoves. After 30 minutes his hosts knew everything to know about the gas stove. But Aldous still could not fix it, get it to working.

And here you are trying to convince us that if you know physics, college level, you can also fix a broken car? I find that absurd, since I have known physicists who would never tackle such a chore, for lack of knowledge in auto mechanics. To know the principles based upon physical laws of a computer controlled auto transmission is not the knowledge needed to repair it. Physics is not a complete mechanical engineer. I know of no one who would make the claims you made generally speaking. Of course, it sounds like to me that your degree, any degree that required physics, automatically makes such a person an auto mechanic, washing machine repairman, etc. Probably qualifies such people with degrees to build a house to code. Cause they know math. So, not only are people with degrees above the lowly mechanic, but his superior education allows him to be a jack of all trades.....and a master on none.

My real world skill set got me a job making more than anyone that I know of from high school and for me there's no where to go but up...

I love trade craft. On top of being the backbone work of this country, It also offers a chance for people with autism to perfect a career. My cousin is autistic and is in the trade business. He still lives at home but he has his own money, takes the bus to and from work, and has made friends (which is something he never did in school).
