False. That's as silly as pretending that most folks without college degrees think that anyone with a college degree is an elitist.

Obviously, whether I consult a mechanic, a heart surgeon, a plumber, or an environmental scientist depends upon whose expertise I require.

Why would you consider a medieval art historian or a poet to fix your air conditioner? I would recommend that you do not do so unless they also are adept at fixing air conditioners.

Evergreen State. Bad bad. Berkley. Bad. University of California. Bad. Any public university has the seeds of destructiveness due to liberal professors and presidents...but some are beginning to destroy the credibility their students need for job consideration.

There are chronic whiners about those demonic "liberal" educated folks, of course, but my plumber is an elitist. He is extremely knowledgeable about Etruscan history and culture - and he is quite smug about it.

I wonder if you are aware that Berkeley is but a campus of the University of California system and is instrumental in feeding the high-tech economy with educated individuals.

People with college/university degrees are not 'elite'??

You CANNOT stereotype that ALL college graduates think others are 'worthless'??

News flash for you; Your air conditioning repair person would have nothing to repair if highly skilled and educated people had not already designed the unit...therefore, as always in American history and moving forward in time...there is a need for all levels of workers! Pitting trade schools against college degrees is a meaningless exercise...

Did you forget that UCLA researchers received a Nobel prize as recent as 2016, UCSF in 2005, Berkeley has 22, as recent as 2012. I am sure companies look at those statistics and decide that all those institutions are "bad" and won't hire from them.

Oh wait, if the company owner is a Trump nut and lives in the right wing bubble, then maybe you are correct.

I still take pride in my hard work in various simple and technical jobs I had before getting my two college degrees.

Even if you have only worked in chicken plants and muffler shops you should feel some pride and satisfaction.

Perhaps the researchers will get jobs if they leave. But the rest of student base ...is learning that rule of law means nothing. Employers...even liberal ones...don't want problem hires that have learned it's ok to hit people who offend you with bike locks. Or burn buildings or cars if you don't like someone who is speaking In their vicinity. Or take over property that isn't theirs until their demands are met. Who'd want to hire people like that? Maybe Soros, but other then that.....

And maybe these hires demand they not work with white people? If it's ok at college they must assume this is the way things should be.

Colleges are hurting these kids opportunities by allowing the shinanigans to flourish on their campuses.

The "Great Recession" of 2008 was a housing and mortgage crash. Plumbers and electricians were hit hard. Builders, developers, small banks, anyone who made a living building or in small, local banks and lending suffered similar to those in the airline industry following 9/11, or cassette tape manufacturers after cd's came along.
For you to say plumbers and electricians weren't affected and to call 2008 a great recession rather than the housing crash makes it very obvious you are trying to discuss a topic you know little about.
Do you know what happened to relatively new hometowns that year and the few following? Do you know what happened to rates? Rentals?

Well put! I've noticed that those with the most useless degrees, are usually those who most want to tell you about it. STEM grads, not so much. They tend to see their degree as a means to an end (earning lotsa pesos or pursuing a vocation), rather than as some magnificent accomplishment.

Understand the fact that IMO for a person to go to college they should have an occupation in mind. Doctor dentist engineer teacher--------a profession in demand. Just to go to college and get a "fine arts" degree pretty much tells everyone the person wasted 4 years of their life, ran up a huge tuition bill that will hang over their heads for years, went to a lot of parties, and drank a lot of beer. OTOH the person that went to trade school and learned heating and air conditioning too----------has a profession in demand, and as someone mentioned a steady pretty much recession proof job.

A few her have claimed that a highly educated college grad could fix that air conditioner. Here I throw the BS flag. There is a 99% chance they dont have the proper tools in the first place. Second I worked with a guy that has a genius IQ, but would hurt himself with tools and screw up most everything he touched.

Oh please, stop it. Name ONE college where a professor was fired for spewing "right wing" lies or indoctrination.
    Just ONE, "Professor".

"The people who died on 9/11 were a BUNCH OF LITTLE EICHMANNS WHO GOT WHAT THEY DESERVED." - Ward Churchill, University of Colorado, fired for lying on his resume

"I wish there could be a MILLION MOGADISHUS!" - Columbia University Professor, around that same time

Fresno State College Professor, in the news for extremist lunacy, I can't keep up with it all. It might have been one of the many assassination threats against President Trump.

University of Alaska, Anchorage art professor - drew a picture of a homosexual holding President Trump's head.
His painting was hanging in the college museum.

The extreme Leftist bias of academia was noted LONG AGO by The Late Milton Friedman, professor at University of Illinois, Chicago, where terrorist Leftist Bill Ayers taught: "Public education is a socialist monopoly, a real one!"

Then too note how popular socialist Bernie Sanders is on college campuses everywhere.

Conservatives aren't even allowed to SPEAK on campuses across the nation.

AND YOU have the temerity to snivel nonsense about "right wing indoctrination."

    Not at all.

BTW I got my electronics training in the Navy. When I got out of the Navy I got the job I applied for, and beat out 25 other men that applied, and exactly half of them had a college degree. In the 47 years total I worked for the Corporation I worked on every thing from electric typewriters to main frame computers, and pretty much every machine between them. In fact over those 47 years I probably averaged flying off to schools on new machines at least twice a year. I probably spent more time in class than a person that has their PHD. I retired after 32 years, but was talked into coming back as an exclusive contractor for another 15 years, and finally retired for good at the age of 70 nine years ago.

"Hire" the plumber, Mister University Chemistry Professor....

Educational spending is inversely proportional to educational achievement. Moreover, the average teacher graduated in the bottom third of his college class, as your grammar would intimate.

I might add here that most everyone is really good at something whether they have gone to college or not.

Further some after college just seem to quit learning. OTOH a good percentage of my time on the computer is spent researching a very broad spectrum of subjects that come to my attention that I become curious about. IMO one should continue to study and learn through out life. I for instance am one of those persons that would like to know something about nearly everything.

If the air conditioner is your main priority,,then the technician. But if your main concern is not being an uneducated oaf, the art major and poet would be preferable.

Myself, if the choice is between enduring some heat for a while, or being a dunce for life, I much prefer the heat.

However, I respect the fact that you believe the contrary. Mind you,I don't think you're "worthless" for this. Just not somebody I would expect to have an intelligent conversation with.

In any case, I think there is great value in both professions.

In the mainstream of every day living, I think that having a household appliance or your car repaired comes up far more times than the name of some obscure medieval artist and his painting.

Oh BTW would you like to discuss Gentile Bellin?????????

Maybe someone with a degree in The Contributions of Transvestite Lesbian Midgets in 17th Century France would have better luck?

Then Liberals shouldn't make them feel so inferior.

Caused by massive layoffs as Capital shifted to China and other emerging- and developing-States.

You beat me to it. I was thinking along the same lines. We have a need for community colleges with associate degrees, trade schools, colleges, and universities. All we don't need is snobbery - the poorly educated rejecting the better educated as "elitist" - people 'looking down" on trades - for which there used to be apprenticeships. About the only thing we don't need is ripping off people who look to better themselves - as was done by Trump "university" - a truly despicable con.

It seems, and I'm deriving this from your context in your post, that you continue to point fingers at the elite as if they are bad people. Anyone of notable status is a elite. Anyway, these colleges are committing highway robbery on students, leaving them jobless, declaring bankruptcy with debt that they'll never live to pay off. It's really criminal on behalf of the crooked capitalism these colleges and universities work off of.

Right now, all that can be taken is that Trump is going to that Wisc school for show. No other plausible reason.

Another situation. You need a film made. It will employ thousands of people and pump over a billion dollars into the economy. Who you going to call to make it happen - your plumber? Or a guy who graduated USC with an art degree named George Lucas?

But I guess the OP is one of those stuck up Republicans who only think they are the only ones worth anything to society.
