How Christian Truth Became Hate Speech

Justice Anthony Kennedy assured those opposed to gay marriage on religious grounds: “The First Amendment ensures that religions, those who adhere to religious doctrines, and others have protection as they seek to teach the principles that are so fulfilling and so central to their lives and faiths.”

In the years that have followed, Christian bakers, florists, wedding chapel operators, photographers, and the like can testify that he was tragically wrong.

Why was Justice Kennedy so wrong? How did conservative Christians become cultural pariahs almost overnight?…

He lists various Christian “convictions about the dignity of life and human sexuality” such as “abortion, contraception, gender identity, marriage, and family,” noting that they are “rooted not just in biblical revelation, but in reason and natural law.”

Then he notes: “Critics of the Church reduce all these moral convictions to an expression of subjective religious beliefs. And if they’re purely religious beliefs, then—so the critics argue—they can’t be rationally defended. And because they’re rationally indefensible, they should be treated as a form of prejudice.”

Here’s the result: “Thus two thousand years of moral truth and religious principle become, by sleight of hand, a species of bias.” For example, “Opposing same-sex marriage (so the reasoning goes) amounts to religiously blessed homophobia.”

Further, “When religious belief is redefined downward to a kind of private bias, then the religious identity of institutional ministries has no public value – other than the utility of getting credulous people to do socially useful things…

…And concessions to private prejudice feed bigotry and hurt the public. Or so the reasoning goes.

“Insufficiently ‘progressive’ moral teaching and religious belief end up reclassified as hate speech.”…

…How accurately does this text describe our culture? “God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator” (Romans 1:24-25, my emphasis).

Our root problem is simple and tragic: people will accuse the truth of being a lie if it contradicts lies they want to believe are true. …

We who are believers are right to hold to Biblical beliefs despite the ever changing wishes of culture and the woke. They are being given over to their own wicked delusions. We must hold to our foundational beliefs and the source of them come what may.

True Christianity is love. It is the sinful culture and people who deny God or a need for Him or think that they can be he in their lives who hate.

 

Then they can avoid treating believers like crap by expecting them to violate their own religious beliefs on their behalf.

The 70 million Lutherans and the 60 million Methodists have affirmed gay marriage. Do their votes count in your little club?

So why don't you get back to us when Christians themselves decide what moral code they are going to follow today, eh.

 

No one is doing that. Telling the truth about their life style choices and their consequences is an act of love. It would be hateful to not tell them about the alternatives they have. One can love the sinner and hate their sin. And not participate in their sin in any manner.

 

As much as mankind has changed over time, the law of and the word of God has not changed even if some compromise their beliefs to gain secular acceptance.

"Judge not lest ye be not judged" is NOT an admonition against making ANY judgements. But against hypocritical judgement.

If Christians were not sinners we would not need Christ.

 

Value is determined by God who looks upon the heart of the individual not outward appearances like humans do. Gods law is unchanging. Humans today who think they are too modern to need God or that they can now become cafeteria Christians deciding for themselves which part of Gods word they will accept while denying the rest will make their case on judgement day just line the rest of us. If Jesus tells God his blood covers them, then I will be satisfied by that determination. None of us can stand before Him without that.

 

Advice given in love is not the same as judgements and punishments.

 

Unlike you, God can forgive even men like Trump was and use him for His purposes to bring about His kingdom here. You do realize that if you can not forgive others of their sins that God will not forgive you of yours..,
