How do I convert Jewish friends to Christianity?

Why is it "elitist" for me to care about my friends and family? Why is it "elitist" and "belittling" for me to have agape? And do you see the irony in talking about "elitism" while talk about your moral and virtuous superiority?

My issue is that, as "virtuous" as your attempt to save others may be, that "virtue" ends in the afterlife. In order to be eternally happy in heaven, you'll have to turn off the same compassion you once had. There's nothing "blissful" about that for me. I don't want to turn off my compassion.

 

I'm a loving and forgiving person. Much more so, in fact, since quitting the cult to which you claim to belong. I used to judge people the way you're doing.

 

I am not superior. I am just not sad and pathetic. So desperately attached to this material world that I am not able to accept eternal love and happiness. I do not ridicule people as stupid or other ableist insults.

I'm sorry, but I once believed what you do. Those were, by far, the most miserable years of my life. I was never more depressed than I was then. Nothing has made me sadder than believing these things.

 

Jesus was Jewish.

Paul was Jewish, Peter was Jewish, John was Jewish and all of the apostles except Luke were Jews. They lived and died as Jews.

There is no need to convert away from Judaism when you can be both Christian and Jew at the same time.

Maybe consider the fact that you were never truly saved and never invited Jesus into your heart and atoned for your sins.

You could have intellectually studied and memorized the Bible but never spiritually understood it.

There's no need for you to pity atheists. Just as you have your beliefs they have theirs, and that doesn't make them monsters (unless they start persecuting and killing people).

 

My understanding was that the unsaved would be tortured for eternity in hell, which seems to be what you believe. That's what made me miserable. Because that concern and love and empathy I have for others would either 1) be taken away from me in heaven or 2) eternally torment me in heaven.

 

Bad things happen, I too pity these unfortunate souls that do not accept their salvation. Why doom yourself though, fear of being called stupid? Mental illness? Self hate? Please elaborate why you do not try to help yourself and others see the light .

 

They were Jewish. Modern Jews are not spiritually Jewish. Jewish means you belong to the covenant of Yahweh/God. By rejecting his salvation modern Jews are Jews in name only.

 

I did try to help others. I evangelized regularly. And I would vomit blood and sleepwalk over the fear that I would fail. But I finally realized there was no "love" in this doctrine. I had to choose between my agape and my doctrines. I chose agape.

 

The sincerity and 'goodness' of this poster is hard to swallow when, in another thread, he encourages people to shame others relentlessly.

 

By the way, you betray a fundamental selfishness in this post when you speak of gaining something by converting. Your next sentence clarifies what you seek to gain for yourself, namely eternal life of harmony. It shows that your belief is ultimately selfishly driven.

Imagine for a moment that you have a favorite aunt as a child. She's one of the kindest, most supportive people you've ever met. She teaches the blind, she takes care of her Alzheimer's-ridden widow neighbor that was abandoned by her family, she helped build wells and bridges in Africa, etc. Then, one day, you overhear a phone conversation between your mother and your aunt, and you find out your aunt is gay. Panicked, you ask your mother to let you stay with your aunt for the week. You try telling her the exact sort of things you are telling me now. And it doesn't work. She doesn't convert. You try for years. It doesn't work.

Introspect about the love and empathy and compassion that you have for this woman while trying to save her.

And she dies.

What happens to that love and empathy and compassion now that you believe she is being eternally tortured? Does it go away?

I like Jewish people. They are not smug elitists like atheists and are willing to converse. I don’t mind other faiths either. The lack of faith is spiritually vampiric though and you emit negative energy.
