How is the South inherently 'racist'?

I am not so sure diversity equals tolerance.

Given the history of the northern states versus the southern states, I think it is safe to say the southern state historically have been less tolerant of those who are not of anglo descent.

However, even using this simple study as a n=1 sort of indicator, one can say that incidents of bigotry were more highly concentrated in southern states.

 

Exactly the Negroes skewer the stats on any sociological study..be it the schools, the crime level, the pover level and so forth....yet few understand it and fewer will dare admit it. That is why no progress is made with improving our public schools....you cannot address the problem if you do not even understand what it is.

I have heard many Negroes say that they experienced more discrimination up North than Down South...just one of the reasons so many of them are going back down South.

 

Yeh....we still had slaves until last month......bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa and how about posting some stats on lynchings in the various states...the years ....the numbers etc. otherwise your claim is just your personal opinion which means it is worth squat.

I must say though it is interesting to see that 'sectionalism' is alive and well....the main cause of the War Between The States.....Northerners have always hated southerners to the point to launching an illegal invasion.

 

The vast majority of lynchings post civil war were in the south and the vast majority of the victims were black.

Racism occurs one by one, not state by state. William Faulkner was alive, well, and writing brilliant, not-racist fiction in Oxford, Mississippi before the civil rights movement was a glimmer in anyone's eye. Flannery O'Connor was doing the same in Georgia. In the same time period, there were good old northern boys making sure no Blacks could move into their neighborhoods. I taught at a university in Kansas during the 60's and Black students could not find housing. Many had to resort to having White friends rent an apartment which they then occupied. This discussion is worthless. A racist is a racist wherever he or she lives. Humid summers don't cause it. Stupidity does.

 

And another fellow who knows how to misconstrue statistics.......the south is were the Negroes were....thus where they committed their crimes and thus where they were hung for their crimes. Did you notice how many white people were also lynched. Say what you will about vigilantism...but crime was not a big problem back then because of swift justice....sure an innocent negro might have been hanged every now and then but the innocent still get caught up in the criminal justice system today. Just a fact of life.

Furthermore, I live in America. Whilst I wholly support self defense. i absolutely decry vigilantism, as the law of this land clearly states that folks will have their day in court.

You make the mistake so many do...equating racism with discrimination....two very different topics.

One can be racist and not discriminate. One can not be a racist but discriminate....and on down the line...it all gets back to the fact...most have no idea what the true definition of racism is. Thus all the confusion.

You were attempting to prove the South was more racist than the North because more Negroes were lynched down south.....I simply pointed out your fallacious idea....If all those Negroes that were down south during that time period had been up North you would have seen more hung up there. That cannot be denied.

 

The most "Racist" state in the union is Arizona. Even white people with tans get harassed out here.

Some racists do discriminate like most people do.....discrimination is not caused by racism....though you have no idea what true racism is....I have posted it many times....the orginal definition of racism in the Oxford English Dictionary in the 1936 edition...the first time the term was defined...many do not know the concept of racism is a very recent phenomenon.
