How is this allowed at a publicly funded School?

It is voluntarily segregated. Non-black graduates CHOSE to not take part, because the description made it clear that this event was not for them. There does not need to be a policy or enforcement for segregation to occur. People self-segregate all the time. No one was explicitly prohibited, because that would be illegal, but it is clear that this celebration was being held for the black graduates. And the procession shows that it turned out to be exclusively non-white graduates that were the ones celebrated there.

Except this was held at a public venue, using public funds. It's a big deal because publicly funded schools SHOULD be working for advancing a colorblind society, and events like this do exactly the opposite of that, at taxpayer expense.

It is. The willful flip-flops from the equality now crowd is simply mind-boggling.

Do you have evidence non blacks CHOSE to not take part? Or is this something you think happened.

Are you against people choosing? Do you prefer force?

I know, right? The funniest thing is watching them try to make ME out to be the racist for having the audacity to call out the racist ceremony.

There were no non-black graduates in the procession. Why do you think that is?

    I can't speculate.
How many non blacks were in this particular graduating class?

Suggesting we should have a color-blind society is a racist dog whistle. I'm literally shaking right now.

The school is, according to a previous poster, 95% non-black. Are you speculating that there are no non-black graduates in the 2023 class?

The topic is those in African American Studies Program. It was a celebration of that specific program.
Would be similar, to use another posters words, an English Dept holding a celebration for all the English majors graduating.

    I told you I can't speculate.
I don't know if or how many non blacks were in that specific program.

I would have liked to have missed my graduation day. It was a really long hot boring day!

No, the topic is Berkley's "Black Graduation Celebration". The one that says it’s "OPEN TO UNDERGRADUATES AND GRADUATES, AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES MAJORS AND STUDENTS IN ALL OTHER MAJORS AND COLLEGES".

Seems pretty inclusive to me. Why do you think all the non-black graduates chose to self segregate? Could it be because they can read who this is for, and knew it wasn't for them?

I skipped mine. It was about 20 below zero in the dead of winter. I graduated in January.

If they had a "Caucasian Graduation" where they invited a founding member of a Neo-Nazi chapter (whose voice was on a recording of his group torturing and murdering a kidnapped member suspected of being an FBI informant) to be their keynote speaker and no minorities showed up, would you also feel that was inclusive? It's not their fault if minorities "chose" to self-segregate from that event, right? That would "seem pretty inclusive to you?"

I'm sure even a single white student would have been as "welcome" to graduate in that ceremony as a typical homeless person is as "welcome" to a random wedding.

Can anyone produce even one example of a white student graduating?

    Even just one token?

Would be segregation just the same, no matter how 'inclusive' their invitation seemed. My question to that poster is why he thought there were NO non-black graduates in the procession. He seems to think that it's because there are no non-black graduates, or something.

Point is, public funds should not be funding segregated events. Whether they are explicitly segregated or implicitly segregated, they are still counter to the colorblind society they claim to seek.
