Your opinion is not law. You have proved nothing.

Yes, they were mentally ill. Every Muslim who believes killing others in the name of Allah and Mohammad is mentally ill.

I will give you that but when you write 7.62 with out the x39 most people will think 308. Still to the point 7.62x39 is not more powerful than your 300 b bolt. If you would use that round for elk like you say you use your 300 most people would say you are very under powered. So then yes you might ruin more meat not because it is to powerful, but because you would have to shoot it more times. Still more to the point the 7.62 round is a very effective hunting round when used in an AR 10. When used for the right game and where legal the AR platform in both variants (15 and 10) make very effective hunting rifles.

    My opinion is:
    1) Anyone who has been diagnosed with any mental illness (ADHD, bi-polar.......etc) and is on a drug therapy (of any kind) can NOT buy/own a gun until a doctor has signed off (putting HIS arse on the line) that the patient is FREE of their mental illness. Even childhood ADHD, ADD .....etc would be included!
    2) Can NOT secure your weapon(s) and your child "somehow" gets hold of that weapon(s) makes you (IMO) an accessory to the crime and should be dealt with like any other accessory to a crime (which means if your child shoots/kills someone, you ALSO will be charged with that crime).
That should take care of the extras "laws" needed!!!

Speeding is illegal. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

I don't think they want their hunting experience quite that challenging. My oldest son could probably manage it though. He's good.

Ok all you anti-self defense lemmings REMEMBER when the government only wanted smokers to sit at the back of a plane? Point is once you go down the slippery sloop of government incrementalism it isn't long before the outcome isn't what you thought it would be.

The issue in question is whether criminals are "legally" buying firearms in states other than their state of residence or through avenues that circumvent a background check.

I am not saying that such transactions do not take place. I am saying that such transactions are not legal and there are laws in place to punish both the buyer and seller. They just need to be enforced.

Hold on just a moment, if you defend yourself with a fist you can be charged with a disorderly conduct. (They swing at you then you end the situation)

Change that first, and I may agree.

If a child can pass a hunters education course, they should be able to own a gun.

A 13 year old that passes that course has more knowledge on firearms than most gun control advocates.

You missed the point of my comparison. Requiring background checks on all gun sales is a great idea. But it will not prevent criminals from getting guns. It gives the public the illusion of safety, a feel good law, nothing more.

I do understand what you mean, but if the situation isn't deemed illegal, it is legal. The way the law is written, the practice is legal, because it isn't illegal. You may see that as a technicality, but technicalities in law are problematic and have to be made more definitive.

This problem would be remedied with a required background check. The law would be settled, and there wouldn't be a way for someone to legally purchase a gun when they are not supposed to be able to do so. Some states have adopted laws that require a background check at every purchase. The ones that haven't negate the laws in the ones that have, because they leave the loophole open and people can travel.

Think again Mr liberal, enforce the laws already on the books, and actually hold people accountable, and quit using the liberal meme, "well you just don't understand what a tough childhood this mass murderer had" (*)(*)(*)(*) them, bullet to the head, problem solved

    https://www.nraila.org/articles/20150314/anti-gun-universal-background-check-bill-reintroduced

The NRA opposes this legislation because it does not address the real problems of fixing the broken mental health system and prosecuting criminals. Further, criminals will never submit to such a system so it will never truly be “universal” – and according to a recent Justice Department research paper the only way to enforce “universal background checks” is to create a national registry of gun owners.

Yes, the laws failed, actually, the government fails to enforce them

The answer is simple; first, enact a national standard for all weapons of any kind; secondly, prohibit the ownership of all handguns, except for all law enforcement officials; thirdly, require all guns to be secured when not in actual use by the owner, mandating trigger locks be in use at all times when not in actual use by the owner.

This will not totally eliminate all killings by guns, but will go a long way to help reduce murders using guns.

Punishment for those convicted of illegal use of a weapon, as you maintain, should be life in prison, except I'd make it life without parole.

Yeah, it is evident how well our laws work with drugs. Read the article, and understand that the vast majority Americans are responsible gun owners. Enforce the laws and the problem will be drastically reduced

    Sir/mam, what an excellent post.

There is a serious issue in the US where socially inept young men find refuge in a virtual world where they are encouraged to seek revenge in the form of an evil mass slaughter of innocent people.

Nice try at deflection; If Americans are responsible gun owners, then there should be no problems with getting them to comply with new gun laws enacted. Death rates by guns should drop significantly, especially with the elimination of handgun ownership.

I don't disagree with what you said except this… I think it will do at least one more thing. It will stop the pretense. If we know that the states with universal background checks have seen a drop in gun violence, and we do, then it makes sense to implement background checks on all gun purchases, and leave no gap in the law. If we don't do that, we are only pretending to try, not even really trying. If that is the way things are, then people need to see that our legislators will not pass laws that will make their communities safer by lowering gun crimes, as those states with UBCs show. The voters can take care of the rest.

Police miss targets because they are usually being shot at if they have to fire a weapon and can't take the time to aim.

Unless an intruder is there to kill you, and your life is in direct danger, you usually have time to aim. A guy who is there just still things is usually not going to risk going after the family. They will be as quiet as possible. You usually have time to take careful aim and put a bullet clean through the back of their head. The problem is that most people have little or no training at all and have no idea how to even use a gun.
