Now you might try addressing how you were mistaken in saying that a gay man groping a straight man had to be tolerated, while a straight man doing the same thing to a woman would be sexual assault. My post was in response to that bit of nonsense, but you kind of skipped right over that. Attacking me as you did is an old debating technique called deflection, it doesn't generally work as it hasn't here. (BTW the "Oh, golly, I don't swing that way" line was yours not mine.

I said that you MIGHT fear sexual proposition by a gay male because that is a logical conclusion based on the inferences in your post. My saying that heterosexual men hit on women is rather like my saying that water runs down hill, it is a statement based on observable facts not an assertion of feelings; it makes me neither a "heterophobe" or a "heterophile" (though I'm not certain that either term is an actual word because I doubt that there are people who fear being or things heterosexual and the world is by default what heterophile would mean).

The straw man here is the groper of your imagination!

The only "weird torturous mental condition" revealed in your posting is your own. As far as death being the end result for homosexuality, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but that's the case for every human that ever lived. You too are going to die.

You have a very warped way of seeing things. Gays did not infiltrate the Catholic priesthood any more than people with blue eyes infiltrated the clergy. The Church in its teachings instills such guilt among gay Catholics that, with some irony, the most devout among those seek out the priesthood under the mistaken impression that it will protect and insulate them from what they have been taught are sinfully evil feelings. Rather than being called to the vocation they were driven to it by guilt and fear and thus almost bound to fail.

The reason church officials are being blamed is not for the acts of pedophilia, but because they denied them, swept them under the rug and paid hush money to keep them under wraps for decades. They were guilty of nothing less than facilitating sexual abuse of children, before and after the fact. Compounding these crimes, they failed to turn the criminal priests over to law enforcement. Instead they moved them to new locales where they inevitably abused other children again. If you cannot understand why church officials are the focus of the story and the anger then you're view of the world is perhaps warped beyond repair.

The hypocrisy is literally dripping from this post. Please look up the definition of bigotry. You are displaying a rather large dose of it here.

I suppose you don't agree with his comments on "religion". But I surely don't see the problem with applying a 2nd Amendment solution to the threat of violence.

To be a bigoted remark requires that the statement be based on prejudice rather than fact. Wolverine state that if he were gay he would carry a firearm for protection presumably out of fear. He then goes on to say that fear is based on a right-wing, hillbilly lynching gays in the name of God. Are you suggesting that the fear he describes is unfounded?

GLBTQ people have been literally demonized and singled out as targets for the wrath of God by right-wing fundamental Christian preachers. Right-wing hillbillies (among others) have and do torture, maim and kill gay people believing they deserve such treatment. Do you maintain there is no connection between the vilification and the "justified" assaults and murders? I suggest it is most definitely a case of cause and affect. If you create an environment of hate and hostility, justify it with divine approval, it can hardly come as a surprise when the hate and hostility are actualized.

Let me give you an example of a really bigoted remark in a previous post: "homosexuality is some weird torturous mental condition." Now that is bigotry, because it has no bases in fact. The assertion is merely the opinion of the poster springing from his/her prejudice.

No, Wolverine is guilty of neither hypocrisy nor bigotry. If you want to cite him for anything it should be stereotyping. Your inference, however, is quite correct. We all need to take care and pay closer attention to the meaning of the words we use and how we use them

Really. They want to kill people who "bother" them. Our failure to give them marriage on a silver platter "bothers" them.

Yes. Gays are no more lynched than the population as a whole. Its just that whenever a gay is attacked, it is presumed that he was attacked because he was gay, and the media proclaims it moral outrage over "hate crimes" against gays. Had the victim not been gay there wouldnt be the moral outrage or media attention.

Well, There is the APA history from the 1840s to the 1970s, defining homosexuality as a mental condition.

Could you possibly state something more 'ridiculous'?

By the way, is it unheard of that homosexual people (or some who are thought to be) are frequently beaten/killed... just for 'being' who/what they are?

And YOU (dixon) have nothing (anywhere near as substantial) to say... as the APA certainly does. They are an AUTHORITY on human sexuality, YOU are not.

LOLOL!!! APA is the authority on mental disorders. I understand why YOU look to them as an authority on sexuality.

And you are exposing YOUR concept of sexuality as a psychiatric condition, looking to the APA as an authority on your sexuality. See the 13 stars in the APA logo? Thats the 13 Insane asylums that came together to form the Association of Medical Superintendents of American Institutions for the Insane (AMSAII).

So I wont dispute your concept of sexuality in the case of homosexuals if thats where you think it belongs.

In any case dixon, it isn't unusual or out of place for the APA and other organizations dealing with mental health, to take well-qualified positions concerning human sexuality. And of course, the 'mental' components of human sexuality are just as important as those which are 'physical'.

And there is NO question that your opinions on these matters, aren't able to trump what the APA says about the same.

OK we'll take these absurdities on one at a time.

Just where did you find any post suggesting that any gay person wanted to kill anyone, least of all for bothering them? If you're going to go after someone or a group it should be for something real, not for something you made up.

You're fragile and false sense of superiority is showing when you suggest that your failure to give us marriage bothers us. In this country we are all equal under the law. Now let me very clearly disabuse you of the nonsensical notion that you can give us marriage. As citizens entitled to equal protections we can, without your leave, petition our government to recognize our lawful right to marry.

Hate crimes do not apply merely to gay people. You apparently haven't the least notion what constitutes a hate crime. First an underlying crime or crimes must exist. Once you have an underlying crime, if you can prove beyond a reasonable doubt that it was motivated by the perpetrator's bias against the victim's religion, gender, ethnicity, race, group membership, sexual orientation, etc., then a hate crime exists and additional sanctions are added to the underlying crime. Unless you are a bigot, you too should feel moral outrage at the thought that someone would commit an act of violence merely on the basis of a person's status or classification.

What I don't understand is why the group that usually favors harsh penalties for most crimes, that clamors for the wider and quicker use of the death penalty is, generally speaking, also the group that opposes the concept and application of hate crimes.

In 1973 the APA struck homosexuality from its list of mental health disorders. This was done following years of careful analysis and empirical research that brought to light the misconceptions that had previously attached to homosexuality.

It took nearly three quarters of the last century before the APA reversed itself, testimony of how deeply homophobia was and is rooted in our culture, society and religion. If generally open-minded, trained scientists take that long to shed fear, panic and distrust, how much more so the less enlightened, less intelligent members of society.

Why did you skip part of the post when quoting dixion?

Furthermore I believed you to be one who supported the second amendment rights of individual gun owners, is this not the case?

Why should homosexuals be denied their second amendment rights? On what grounds would they be denied the right to defend themselves, their loved ones, and their property?

WTF? Children must be educated in respect and tolerance, something that you don't have.

And yes, many of you I am sure that you would like to see homosexuality like a crime again.

Which has nothing to do with homosexuality

No, Im the one who doesnt think we need to teach kids in school about homosexuality. Said nothing about making it illegal. But for the potential of procreation, there really wouldnt be any point in government involvement in the first place regarding sexual matters between people.
