How is the process breaking the rules? I cited the rules in comment 48. Which part are they violating?

(Every day on this forum, Trump supporters make claims with no backup. Why is that? If you make a claim, back it up. I'm so tired of having to ask.)

Can you imagine a worse political strategy than to hitch yourself to someone as unstable and patently dumb as trump? They ought to lose their seats, as they're clearly to stupid to act in our country's best interest.

I was responding to a poster that compared it to a police investigation....I just can't keep up with all your theories to keep it secret, unlike the Congressional Hearings on Russia meddling, and Benghazi etc etc

As that's not the case, there's no quid pro quo.

Getting kind of personal there, dude, using "you" all over the place. I'm not in charge of anything, so ease down on the finger pointing please.

Past impeachments of Nixon and Clinton had special investigators assigned by the DOJ. In this case, Trump's pet, Bill Barr, has refused to participate in any way, and who can blame him? His name came up five times in that partial phone call transcript, so he's up to his three chins in this mess.

That being the case, this time the House is on its own, which is why they are using this process of holding private hearings like a grand jury would do, but they have their own rules, not grand jury rules. I provided a link to the rules they are following in comment 48.

Having enough to impeach is only part of the process. Interviewing these witnesses, making sure they corroborate without conspiring, getting the whole story so they can lay our the details properly in Articles of Impeachment is an important process, and it takes however long it takes. That they are willing to allow the public to read opening statements says volumes about the desire for transparency for we the people, and we'll get the details when they're done.

Seriously, read the rules I linked to above. These committees are doing their jobs properly, and there are dozens of Republicans on those committees.

You're right, I stand corrected, Gaetz was barred.

"Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who is not a member of the three House committees handling the impeachment inquiry into Trump, said that he was asked to leave deposition of Fiona Hill, a former presidential aide on European and Russian affairs, by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-Calif.)."

He was barred because he isn't on those committees, therefore it is against the rules for him to sit in. Schiff was right to keep him out.

I thought you said the Judiciary Committee (which is the Committee that handles impeachment) was part of it and all it's memebers were there?

Maybe someone that speaks con can explain it to you.

    https://www.newsweek.com/fox-news-j...lic&utm_medium=Feed&utm_campaign=Distribution
Fox News senior judicial analyst Andrew Napolitano said Thursday that Republican complaints about the "secrecy" of closed-door impeachment hearings don't hold water because the process is "consistent with the rules" that a "Republican majority" signed into law.

"As frustrating as it may be to have these hearings going on behind closed doors...they are consistent with the rules," Napolitano, who previously served as a New Jersey Superior Court judge, explained during a segment of the Fox News morning show Fox & Friends.

"When were the rules written last?" the legal expert asked. "In January of 2015. And who signed them? John Boehner [the Republican speaker of the House]. And who enacted them? A Republican majority," he asserted. "The rules say that this level of inquiry, this initial level of inquiry, can be done in secret," Napolitano said. He pointed out that he personally wishes he could view the testimony and that it was public, but he added that the impeachment investigation was thus far consistent with the ones conducted against Presidents Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton.

"Eventually, there will be a public presentation of this, at which lawyers for the president can cross-examine these people and challenge them," Napolitano explained. "This is like presenting a case to a grand jury, which is never done in public."

A grand jury that leaks what they want and keeps the rest secret.

That would happen if this was a real grand jury. This is just secret meetings. So saying it is like a grand jury is false.

If your BLOTUS has nothing to hide then why is he NOT being OPEN and HONEST about everything that he has done?

Why is your BLOTUS OBSTRUCTING the testimony of witnesses to these hearings?

Why does he send out his legal team to tell EXTREME LIES about Congress and this inquiry?

What crime is your BLOTUS hiding from We the People?

That logic works 2 ways. If Democrats aren't doing anything wrong, why do it in secret? For all we know this is just another Democrat pizza party.

Because it follows the law as set by republicans in 2015 and is consistent with the investigations into Clinton and Nixon before him.

    Don’t like the law?
    Change it.

Ya’ll praised trump for doing it with the EC win / PV loss and with his tax returns but democrats doing it means they are doing something wrong?

Does that mean you agree there is something illegal or unethical in trumps tax returns?

So you had no idea at all that BOTH the House and Senate committees that REGULARLY have CLOSED meetings BECAUSE of the SUBJECT MATTER?

The Whistleblower works for NATIONAL INTELLIGENCE so to reveal his identity would COMPROMISE national security!

If it had been any other whistleblower this would probably NOT have been necessary but BOTH PARTIES are right there in that committee room!

    BOTH SIDES are hearing EVERYTHING!

It is only the public who are going to have to be PATIENT!

What is the hurry if you are convinced that your BLOTUS has nothing to hide?

He is referring to the Committee Chair's ability to order the closed door hearings, and not allow the minority to sub their own witnesses.

I am referring to the impeachment process....I have provided the House's rules from the House's website
