I know this is probably the wrong place to put this thread and I apologize, but I wanted to start a thread for those who are watching this event live to discuss the current event. Mods, please move the thread as you see fit.
Comey has already made an astounding decision to not repeat his opening remarks and to make some additional comments - including calling multiple aspects of the statements made after Comey was fired to be "troubling" and "lies." He also characterized statements as a "decision to defame me."
In regards to whether Comey believed obstruction of justice occurred, he said that he doesn't believe that is "for him to say."
The only thing he has said of value is that Trump did not ask him to stop the investigation, other than that whining about being fired.
Of course it was/is, he was a law enforcement officer when it is alleged to have occurred. He is the only witness to the allegation and the only one who can speak to it.
And has confirmed that Trump was at no point colluding with Russia, and that at no point did Russians interfere with the election. We'll see how many lefties think he's impressive after this is over.
Has he testified that Trump asked him, not expressed his opinion of what he hoped, to stop any investigation including Flynn?
Flynn was part of the investigation. Duh. Also he just verified Russian intrusion attempts long before Trump ever announce to run.
watching now while I have a little break at work. One question that I've never asked, maybe important, maybe not.... ALL this russia talk, has anyone ever asked if there were any attempts, efforts, by ANY other countries to influence anything in this election? Is russia the ONLY one?
That quote does not apply to the situation of whether the conversations qualify as obstruction of justice.
He is not currently a law enforcement officer and the decision of whether such occurred to the point that a prosecution should be pursued is already assigned to a special counsel. The decision not to make that legal conclusion at this time is reasonable.
His written opening statement made it very clear that he interpreted Trump's request to "let Flynn go" as a request to drop the Flynn investigation. That fact has been verified and repeated for a very long time. The intrusion into the 2016 election was a wholly different animal though.
