The Justice Department warned Wednesday that it "would be extraordinarily reckless" for the House intelligence Committee to release a classified memo publicly "without giving the Department and the FBI the opportunity to review the memorandum," and to "advise" on possible harm to national security and ongoing investigations from its public release.

Of course, this will only add to the clamor for more #ReleaseTheMemo bots to hit the sites.. And it's clearly obvious that the author, an Asst Attorney General under the Trump administration, is a deep state Hillary supporter...

I also think the footnote on page 1 is pretty interesting... is he indicating that Nunes/Gowdy broke some agreement on who should be reviewing some of this information?

If Nunes somehow releases this all powerful memo without review by somebody outside of his little nest of moles, I'm hoping he'll get some kind of censure... Why would he continue to go this route?? (I'm kidding of course - we all know why)

Just do what democrats do, leak it to the media. Comey has experience doing this, maybe he can help out.

They WROTE IT. They, more than anyone knows what's in it.(And that they cite investigations as the reason why, also suggests they know that improper behavior was conducted by intelligence agents.). If I'm Nunes, I give them a major F you and "no, we will release it as soon as it's up for a vote." The American People deserve to know whose misusing intelligence properties.

It's nice to see how outraged you were when leftist Feinstein unilaterally released Fushion GPS material in defiance of rules. Oh wait . . . that's different because (altogether now) It's NEVER wrong when leftists do it. Nice!

    I don't remember..... how outraged was I??

Slight difference here... In Fusion GPS, the people giving the testimony asked to have their transcripts released, as is their right. In this case, the Justice Department is asking simply to review before release.... This letter doesn't say it cannot be released.

    Its already been reviewed.

    What is this?

Another stall technique so they can make sure they cover all the bases before they "lose" it ?

Are these some of the same DOJ and FBI officials that did such a bang up job with Hillary’s emails and secret server ordeal?
Maybe they just want to write the exoneration findings ahead of time before the investigation gets underway again?

Good point. They also defended Bradly Manning when he did his own release.

They did not write the Memo.

Nunes and his staff wrote the Memo. It's their blog of the actual data. The Democrats have their own version which is apparently conflicting completely with the summary of the Nunes one.

I say they release the actual source data, unfiltered.

My bets: There will be nothing that allows for any criminal charges and there will be no guilty pleas. This is all fluff. Garbage. Just like the last 10 conspiracy theories they've been spamming to muddy the waters.

If bold is true, then this sounds like it would violate the terms of access... Per that letter, Nunes is NOT supposed to have seen this information, as Gowdy and his staff was the designated reviewer for the majority..... Love to see him get that shoved down his throat....

Okay, they should release the actual source data, unfiltered.(Though to be fair, the Democrats could have also made statements in their testimony in favor of the intelligence.). We cannot trust Congress with this investigation.

I'll just state that I don't think Nunes fabricated everything in the yet unseen memo. If he did fabricate it, he'd be implicating himself in forging false evidence. Maybe some things were worded more strongly than others, but I don't think he's thinking "Muwahahaha, let me turn this into something that can completely clear the President's name."

You said the Justice Dept. wrote the memo. No one has claimed that.

I just want to know why you so often state things as fact before even taking the most cursory checks to verify what you say is true.

Credibility is one of the most valuable assets one has. I don't understand why some treat it as a sneeze-filled tissue paper to be tossed away with so much abandon.

It's a stall tactic by Republicans. Look how much effort is being aimed at this and meanwhile Trump gets relief.
Release the memo and they lose their talking point and people go back to attacking Trump for tying funding for the wasteful, useless, stupid counter productive wall to the popular DACA freedom.

If the wall were stupid and counter productive, why would the left be fighting so hard against it. We all know its not the money, typically democrats love to waste tax payer money.

I doubt these murderers that keep hitting the news overstayed their visa five or more times, so maybe there is some need for a wall.

Bah, there's no relief for Trump over this.... Mueller is still breathing down his orange neck every day and stories in that area are picking up, with the Sessions/Comey interviews... We know this is a total sideshow, but if the DOJ can discredit the memo (or the sources of the memo) for the American people, that could lead to blowback for Nunes for introducing it in the first place..

Nationalist nailed this thread win - "We cannot trust Congress with this investigation". Let the Senate wind theirs up too, and let Mueller be the investigator and let Congress get back to doing their real jobs....Legislating.....

Are you really going to fall for this idiotic stunt?

We know of no investigation whatsoever. The House Intelligence Committee is not investigating anything. Their GOP chairman is running interference for the White House. The committee and its chairman have no credibility at all.

Adam Schilff revealed that the Republicans on the committee actually voted NOT to see the accompanying documents that Nunes' memo is based on. So, they know this is a rope-a-dope, and they don't want to put themselves in a position where they know for a fact that it is farce.

Meanwhile, Nunes is playing his secure room game again, circulating this screed among fellow Republicans only, and saying he can't release it. Nunes made a fool of himself and discredited his own investigation with his unmasking st unt last Spring.

This is called "waving the bloody shirt".

Nunes has been waving this thing around for days. Nobody knows what's in it. He won't tell you. The #release campaign is being run by Trumpster media and their Russian bot fellow travellers. It's noise. Nothing more.

Yet another fraud from one of the biggest fools in Congress.

Why does DOJ need to review their own documents?

Actually it's not a DOJ document. The DOJ is nervous about having it released because they are Deep State holdovers and co-targets of the investigation. They aren't allowed to see the memo. Everything I just mentioned plus Sessions is a cuck, even though he wasn't involved in that mess.

Is that a serious question? I'll assume it is.... The DOJ is asking to review the 4 page memo Nunes/Gowdy pulled from the 1000 pages of documents provided to their committee, which alleges FISA problems. The point is that since it seems to be based on DOJ/FBI documents, they should be allowed to review what the memo alleges in case it involves classified material. The letter doesn't say the memo cannot (or even should not) be released to the public.... just that a national security review is conducted first...

Nunes' staff did "crafted" the memo, Nunes did not view the underlying documents, Schiff and Gowdey reviewed the underlying documents.
The other House Reps that had not reviewed the underlying docs on the Intel committee, voted to NOT actually review the underlying documentation. <- Just consider this for a moment.
