You have to understand that we are not talking about a specific law dealing only with Pedophilia. We are talking about a variety of laws that deals with sexual age of consent. The Federal Government and every state has a predetermined sexual age of consent. The Federal Government and 11 states have set the age of consent at 18, 9 states at 17 and the remaining 31 states at 16. In no state is it legal for someone to have sex with a 14 year old.

Actually, Florida Statue 800.04 was passed by the state electorate 1943, and despite numerous Constitution challenges the law remains intact. Additionally, being from London, you might not be aware of US18 U.S.C. § 2423(b) and (c): So, if you were a US Citizen, and traveled to Bangkok and engaged in sexual activity with an underage individual you could be convicted under this statue. Even if the sexual activity does not violate Bangkok Law. Aren't you glad that you are not a US Citizen?
Age of the other party matters. There are near age exceptions when this (18 and 14) may be legal. Or close to legal. And it should be legal.
I am not saying it is not illegal in Florida, because it is. Although the punishment is light compared to real child rapists. My point is that morally speaking, 18 and 14 is very much a grey area and those who defend her actions or disagree with the punishment should not be shamed for it. If anything, those who want to criminalise consentual sex among teens deserve shaming.

it's about the power due to the age difference.... a 14 yo can be bullied into sex by an older aggressor. A 14 y.o. can do the same thing with a 10 y.o.
I'm pretty sure that's not the reason, seeing as how they can be bullied into sex by people their own age.
