Shockingly you can't just wave an education before a student's nose and have it magically take. The student actually has to struggle with the material, do the freaking work, and learn from it. All the liberal angst in the universe doesn't alter that reality.

Oh and before again reaching for the 'it's a second class education' shibboleth (when it's not) consider the fact that when the Vietnamese Boat People children were put into the same educational systems . . . THEY excelled and most of them came from backgrounds that make the average Black experience seem luxurious.

Irish and Italians are white. They would not have suffered from the American apartheid rules. And that is so recent that some black Americans have experienced first hand are still alive. Besides that, what do the cubans and vietnamese have to show in general? I spotted the median income of a household in little Havana is less than 1300$ a month on wikipedia. Just superb.

 

Nonsense. It isn't like the choice is go to collage or fail. There's a huge shortage of welders in this country. Along with many other trades like plumber, electrician, truck driver, etc.

No excuse for ANYBODY not to learn a trade to support themselves and their family. Crying about not being able to afford to go to college is a cop-out. And an excuse for failure by the white-guilt crowd.

since I know highschools are paid with taxes from local communities,... does mean that poor communities have less funds for schools. No doubt the flow of cash needs to change. Besides that more funds are needed for having schools in more dangerous neighborhoods. You can't go give all schools an equal amount per student, and than let the school cut costs on actually educating children because they need to hire more security. Duh.

 

Ah right. You get born in a poor family so you must end up as a plumber or a truck driver. And god forbid you get a fair chance to be a doctor. Sorry,.. I can't agree with that.

 

they have the teachers unions, they set the curriculum, they own the school board, the mayor, they get state and federal money so that the per pupil spending is higher than white suburbs, and YET it is all our fault when they fail (people like you and me) because of slavery, racism, and we actually demand results.

After Obamacare, most plumbers will no doubt make more money than doctors. Why the class snobbery? Don't you know it takes blue collar workers to keep your world on track? Do you look down your nose at the woman who pours you coffee in the local diner?

 

Nothing is stopping anyone from attempting to be anything they want to become. But they have to do the work first and then they have to try and they have to grasp the fact that there are no guarantees. The opportunities are there. You have countless liberals falling all over themselves to help. But at some point . . . the person has got to do the really hard work for him or her self.

It's about an equal level of education to give children an equal chance no matter what their economical situation is. Currently it's not the case one bit. How hard is this to understand?

 

The level of education is equal. Nobody can MAKE under performing students do the work when nothing happens to them if they just shrug it off to go and play. Surprise!
