This really is an ego thing for you, isn't it? Against my better judgment, I tried to give you another chance. There won't be a third one.

Nope. Purely common sense over senseless violence.

Something you'll never understand, no matter how many chances you're given.

I don't know how this has morphed into yet another pissing contest between the USA and the UK. This tragic situation in London, and other parts of the UK, is not about carrying guns, despite the pathetic attempt of the OP to make it appear so.

The problems which have precipitated this mindless violence are not racial, or cultural, but socio-economic. Frustrated and disenchanted youth (who see little prospect of the life their fathers enjoyed,) have lashed out at society in general. The origins of the problem go back a long way - to the Thatcher years, and the gradual destruction of the socially just society built up after the last world war.

Serfin' USA, I respect your viewpoint on needing firearms for protection in a society awash with guns, but what makes good sense in one society does not necessarily do so in another, with a totally different national ethos, history, and value systems.

Thanks, and I agree that socioeconomic problems can't be simplified into the Fox News drivel that some are attempting to posit.

For what it's worth, I wasn't advocating that the U.K. change its gun laws. If what you've got in place works, it makes sense to keep it.

My only argument was with regard to why America can't follow suit and with how guns themselves aren't the cause of violence.

Much like what the U.K. is currently experiencing, America has violence that partially stems from socioeconomic problems.

We have a greater problem with poverty than the U.K. in general, which equals more violence.

I would rather carry an ASP but carrying one is a felony.

Can someone explain to me how can someone get beaten, then helped 100 yards later, call cops and not get "flash mob" arrested?

Unless those people were dressed as ninjas and once they beaten the guy they disappeared into the smoke - the cops should be able to recognize them since there were so many witnesses.

Am I asking logical questions or should I curse and bash ungraceful Obama's supporters?

My impression was that this guy got sucker punched. It wasn't really a fight. While there were people around, one punch can be overlooked. I don't think the "crowd" was shoulder to shoulder. After all, there had to be enough room for this man to ride his bike. Besides, the black group could have shielded the punch away from the public's view.

After all, the other alternative is that he punched his face and fractured his own skull in public for no real financial gain...

#1 you are assuming lots of witnesses. The don't snitch rule is in effect in many cities

#2 you are also assuming they would come forward and speak with police.

Another measured and sensible post (as always) Serfin - thanks for that. :)

Similarly, I would not advocate the UK's gun laws for a totally different society like the USA - where history and cultural values differ markedly from those of the UK.

The last thing they needed was some self appointed dickless wonder with a gun and no brains to start shooting and turn a robbery into a multiple casualty situation.

    Rubbish!

The United States is a significant source of weapons and ammunition in Mexico.
