    Top rated comment:

Eventually medical science will progress to the point where babies can survive a few weeks after conception. That should make things really interesting.

This was a wanted baby. Ibarra told doctors to do whatever necessary to save her. It seems you don't understand the concept of choice, wherein the woman decides for herself what sacrifices she is capable of making. The cost for preemie care in NICU is $3000 is $5000 per day according to Dr. Ramanathan. Premature babies are likely to have lifelong health or leaning disabilities for lifelong additional expense. If Ibarra or any woman can't afford these astronomical medical costs, should taxpayer funded assistance be available for her? Where is YOUR support for this baby, and others like her?

270gms? Holy crap that is tiny. Its a wonder she made it this far. Little tacker must be a fighter. :)

Where is our support for this baby? Well gee, I hardly think us choicers would be insisting the kid was aborted instead. Only pro lifers would claim something so falsely inaccurate.

But it is just a "fetus" Make! Come on deathers, want to see all the standard cliched arguments come out how it's just a "zef"!!!

    A fetus isn't a human remember? It's just a leech or a parasite.

How does a fetus look just like a baby and survive outside the womb? It's just a fetus remember? Where are all the arguments from the pro-death crowd claiming a fetus isn't a baby????

Pro-choicers would give the mother the right to terminate the baby as long as it's still in the womb. Is that about right?

Was this ignorant drivel needed? Can you name any instances where women chose abortion because it was still in the womb?

No. Many pro-choicers are OK with outlawing abortions in later stages of pregnancy (when external viability is possible or brain waves appear). I would not mind even if abortion was allowed only in the first trimester - by far the most abortions happen there anyway, as well as perks like ESC therapy.

Both extremist positions (allowing abortion till birth / not allowing it at all) are stupid IMHO.

You are forgetting that when it was born, it automatically becomes a person, and everything humanly possible must be done to save it. The woman could have chosen an abortion instead, but she chose to give birth and trust that doctors could save her baby.

Hat, you can expect those arguments but you won't get them. No choicer is going to say anything bad about this situation.

Maybe you should read the OP. This baby was born in the 2nd trimester. I suggest you look up abortion statistics paying particular attention to 2nd trimester abortions and the reasons for doing so. You'll find that many of these abortions were performed because the mother did not want the baby. Now if the baby can survive at 24 weeks, what would an abortion be considered at that time?

Of course they are, but not all. Unfortunately, my position is not extreme since we're talking about the second trimester. I would agree with you that extremists positions are stupid. That was the point of my question.

If you had looked up all of the stats you would have seen that only 1% of all abortions in the USA occur after 20 weeks. That's 4 whole weeks before your worry line. How many of that 1% actually take place at 24 weeks?

"...52% of all abortions occur before the 9th week of pregnancy, 25% happen between the 9th & 10th week, 12% happen between the 11th and 12th week, 6% happen between the 13th & 15th week, 4% happen between the 16th & 20th week, and 1% of all abortions (16,450/yr.) happen after the 20th week of pregnancy... "

    http://www.abortionno.org/Resources/fastfacts.html

Interestingly, 40% identify as Protestant, 30% Roman Catholic, and 20% as Evangelical. Go Christians!

The only threshold that means anything significant is conception.

2nd trimester is about 9%. So are you saying 1% (16,450/yr) is insignificant?

As I said - some basic knowledge that does not consist of regurgitated myths would be good

I respectfully suggest that abortion is rarer in the latter stages of pregnancy and rare beyond 22 weeks - and then mostly done for severe foetal abnormality or immanent maternal death

It has everything to do with the OP. Look at the title: "Pro-Death:where is your support for this baby?" That's what this thread is about. And my post is not an idiotic generalization. It is merely a question to the pro-life crowd which no one wants to answer.

I'm glad you looked up the statistics. Now answer the question.

Quite a few in the 2nd trimester area of the chart. Perhaps they should read them before posting them.

Because it was a deflection and not an actual question. It was your original statement I was speaking to - the one where you suggested that medical science would one day be able to "save" babies a few weeks after conception.
There are reasons why we have not changed the age at which babies are able to survive - it is called organ maturity. And what many do not realise is that in cases such as this we will give the mother hydrocortisone to try and mature the lungs of the baby before we deliver it. This is what we had to do for the women who got swine flu.

What? You think given the option between abortion and saving the baby we would not try to save the baby as a FIRST option? Even the story Hat erroneously linked to shows the opposite of what he was contending. It shows that we will actually try everything to save a baby

But every so often abortion is the only option - simply because the mother cannot take the full impact of a caesarian

Do you people think you are "winning" anything by accusing people randomly of "murdering innocents"? You certainly are not winning any kudos when it is THIS far off the mark

So you're pro-choice because you believe saving the baby should be the first option. That means the baby wins. Kudos to you.

Most abortions in the 2nd and 3rd trimester are because there is something wrong with the fetus, or the mothers health will be compromised if the pregnancy continues.

Despite the trolling nature of the OP there is no such thing as "pro-death"

    Get used to it

If we were pro death, there would be forced abortions.

LOL! Call it whatever you want. If the decision is made to terminate a pregnancy, the baby ends up dead. Pro-choicers like to use words which help them sleep at night.
