I think there are some basic scientific ideas suggesting that all or much of the world was covered in water. However, this was very, very long ago- before anything resembling humans or human civilization.

Not according to the scientist. Remember these are claims by scientist not by the church that the earth was once a water planet or was under water or covered with water.

The research are very clear whether it is 300, 400, 200 million years ago scientist believe that the earth was once covered with water. Evidences of all the great peaks be it the Everest, yellow Stone, Yosemite, etc. those mountains have left large amount of evidences for scientist to conclude that the earth was once a water planet and that if humans do not change its ways the earth will once again become a water planet or desert planet.

Some mountain ranges are relatively young... For instance the Smokey Mountains are millions of years older than the Alps.

That's just the movement of tectonic plates..

And those mountain ranges were used to be under water until they were pushed upwards through tectonic movements. Today's scientist predicting that what comes up will one day go down again.

Climate change, green house effect, the call and warning that we must change that include using renewable energy or else this planet will go down either under water or on fire today's warning are echoes of thousand of years ago when Noah warned the people to repent and they did not now we are hearing the same warnings this time it is about science it is about criminal act against nature back then it was about sin against humanity and God.

Those are all part of nature. Back then it was mans sins against humanity today it is about mans irresponsible attitude, actions and habits against nature in both instances man will perished through tsunamis, volcanoes, earthquakes, meteor strike etc. etc. that will result in global flooding wiping out humanity.

Those scientists have not examined all the evidence. There is clear evidence that Earth suffered cosmic collisions. One that happened only about 9500 years ago included a huge deluge of water, rock, sand, gravel. The face of the Earth changed in a matter of hours. Mountains rose, continents sunk, Earth expanded producing the present land and water masses. Earth is still expanding thus we have plate movement producing earthquakes. Also the grinding rock is melted and produced gases which gives rise to volcanoes.

Scientists do not claim to have documented something coming from nothing. Religious zealots on the other hand do act as the writings in some book written by goat herders living thousands of years ago are documented fact.

Interesting example. I assume you've never heard of Bonhoeffer.

Now let's start with the basics here: you want religion to be more moral and less evil - essentially, to have your views. In religion, there is usually a rich historical intellectual dialogue that establishes morality of decision, usually backed up with a "God says so." So on religions side they have "God says so", and your aide we have simply that you say so. At least based on what you've provided so far.

So what I'm asking you for here is a reason to agree with you as to what is evil and moral. What is your basis? Because how you get there makes all the difference.

I never claimed that they have done so. But they obviously think they can, given that they preclude the existence of God.

Your opinion is irrelevant, of course.

What opinion? You are confusing statements of fact with opinion.

Your characterization of these books and their authors is a personal opinion, one based on the need to mock and ridicule. In other words, you demonstrate the average anti-religious mentality, one which is steeped in juvenilism.

LOL What characterization is not fact ?

    1) The OT was written 1000s of years ago by primitive people.
    2) There is no proof that anything written in those books is true any more than the Greek myths.

I'm not a Jew so I don't really care what the OT says (for the most part).

The thread is about religious fairy tales. You created a straw man in relation to current scientific belief in relation to how the universe was created.

You did not have to juxtapose that to Genesis as it is inferred.

    Nice try ..

The only truism you have proved is that everyone thinks they are right.

No strawman at all, as science is the religion of atheists.

The straw man was your mischaracterization of science.
