And Steve Bannon trying to foment unrest in other countries, even, like Brazil. And the Freedom Caucus, in Congress, going from texting Mark Meadows, encouraging Trump to declare "Marshall (sic) law," to refusing to cooperate with the J6 Committee, to now attempting the unheard of feat, of interfering in, & trying to discredit, a DOJ investigation in progress, in which many of them-- Jim Jordan, the Chairman, et al-- have potential criminal exposure!

The contempt of the law, of some on the Right, has no bounds; the amoral lack of shame, is unmitigated; the absence of decency, is absolute. Yet none of this seems to faze their fellow Republicans (who do, however, take an indignant stand against lying Rep. George Santos; Hershel Walker, had he been elected, however, would have been celebrated, in the Senate). An interesting choosing of where to draw lines, for sure. But I think we are getting way off topic.

P.S.-- BTW, I really like your abbreviating those particularly disingenuous MAGA Trumpers, as MAGAt. Seems appropriate, for the crowd in question.

Russia is not communist. That ended when the Soviet Union collapsed.

I think a Russia, along side North Korea, isolated and pariah of the world, would be an appropriate outcome for such a nation.

Why is this Op-ed in the 'Latest US $ World News' sub-forum, but an article about Condoleeza Rice's views on the Ukraine War is relegated to 'Opinions and Beliefs'? At least the former is somewhat newsworthy given Rice is providing expertise as a former Secretary of State. Literally, every F-ing International Politics Forum has died due to the crazies on both sides continuously spewing BS, and personally attacking anyone that has a different opinion. It's silly. What's to discuss hear anyway? This F-ing article in this thread is filled with BS. Russians fear starvation like North Koreans? Russians and Ukrainians would use African people for their example of starving people. It sounds like this reporter has never met anyone that's heard of Africa.

Why not pin a RussiaUkraineWar Thread? Huh Moderators?

Wait as second... When you say OUR own do you mean the U.S.? I had always assumed you lived in Russian occupied Ukraine or Russia. How was it that you are able to trade in Sberbank? Your avatar is a flag of the New Russia in Ukraine.

You seem confused. "Open Ed" means "opinion editorials" yet you wonder why it is filed as an opinion piece? Think about it a bit more and I am sure you will figure out why.

    Have I considered visiting???

Well let's see, I've been there several times over the last several years, including last summer at the height of their "crash" (as the West claimed). Like I said, they are doing better than us. I own millions in investments in Russia. I just got back from Dubai with my Russian girlfriend (and Dubai was full of Russian tourists). So yeah, without going into more detail, rest assured I'm quite familiar with Russia's status. Unlike anyone posting here.

But how are you trading in Sberbank? For close to 2 years U.S. Financial institutions are not allow to trade in Sberbank. Opening a Russian brokerage account is possible but difficult and with the abundance of securities available to Americans to trade in world wide why would they even bother. Also don't you find it ironic that your taxes, including capital gains you have made on Sberbank, are being used to fund the war effort in Ukraine. Paying for the HIMARs, Bradley's and future Abrahams.

Wow, seems you're an expert on my tax returns. No need to go into details, I do what I do. I'm obviously more versed on Russia (and investing) than anyone here commenting....so let's leave it at that.

Ironic? No. I find it stupid and disgusting that US taxpayers are once again being lied to about yet another war. We paid for weapons to arm ISIS, various other wackos across the Middle East as well as South America.....now we're arming actual nazis in the shithole of ukraine. The language in the funding bills prohibiting nazis from getting funds....has no enforcement mechanism...of course. Even our stupid ass politicians know ukie land has a nazi problem.

I don't support nazis and I don't support NATO meddling in every *******n place they have no business. It will end up collapsing, at likely the same time we do.

I am not an expert in YOUR tax returns BUT I have worked in the financials services industry my entire life. Specifically brokerage services. Trading in Russian securities is possible but extremely difficult? Why would you go through all of the effort when there is so much more that is readily available.

You claim to understand taxes but then you seem to not realize you have no choice on how your tax dollars are spent beyond using your vote. So you are supporting the so called "NAZIs" in Ukraine with your money like it or not.

True. It's more of a fascist KGB-led regime nowadays.

You've missed the point. The article in the OP is clearly an opinion piece that reflect the authors own feelings. The title states that "Russians Fear They'll be starving like North Korea" (false statement of Fact), which is based on a single out-of-context quote form a Russian Radio Host that asks an economic expert, "Will we have to live like South Korea in the 1950s-1960s?" The radio host is the only Russian sourced, because Alexey Malgavko didn't speak to any Russians. He merely listened to a radio host in Russia, because Alexey Malgavko is a Russian Dissident that lives in the UK. He provides no evidence of the statements made on the radio program. So the article is merely his own opinion of Russian feelings, and his title is F-ing lie. You should realize right of that bat that it's an opinion piece.

So my question remains. Why isn't this thread in the opinions section instead of the Condolleza Rice story? Alexey is photographer, and Condoleza Rice was Secretary of State. The mere fact that Rice gave her opinion on Russia is more newsworthy than some random Russian with a gripe.

It's absurd. There's so people on Twitter that will swear an article is true when it claims something that on-the-ground journalists and video have demonstrated to be false. For example, they came after a Ukrainian Journalist I reposted to my page, because he observed that the Russians were taking Soledar from retreating Ukrainians, and opined that the Ukrainian 'counter attack' was merely a method to slow the Russians instead of recapture salt mines. At that moment, the brainwashed idiots branded him a Putin Puppet even though he's imbedded with the Ukrainian Army.

I can see right now you'll fit right in with the rest. Great contributions to come, no doubt.

That's swell. Maybe you're one of those "account specialists" that randomly call and ask do I need anything or why I did what I did?

Readily available? Yeah, anything in the West is hot garbage right now, but it's readily available. I started with nothing and now I'm well north of 10M. Opinions vary, but forgive me if I don't accept yours.

Well, you being so enamored with Russia, it was a legitimate question. Are you concerned that it may be a bad decision in the long run?

    Rubles, no doubt.

Wrong guess. Try again? I may have designed and built many of the systems that those investment advisor use when they decide to call you.

As an expert investor I am sure you realize that you can hold investments outside the "West". My portfolio contains holdings in many Asian and Chinese companies. The difference is many Chinese companies are available on N.A. exchanges. You can invest in Chinese online retailers like Ali Baba, you can invest in Chinese EV companies like BYD, NIO, Mpeng, you can invest in Chinese and South American lithium mining companies. If you are the investor you claim to be you would know that. You would also know you cannot trade Sberbank through an American brokerage firm anymore. You would also know that Serbank has lost more than 1/2 its value since the war started and when a company I hold loses 1/2 its value I don't brag about how smart I am.

If the Russians have their farmlands growing their food, what would be their problem? Unless their farmlands have something wrong with them like discovered radioactivity underground. If they keep their homegrown food with them, they won't starve. That wouldn't be a problem, would it? I didn't think so.
