Should we ban the indoctrination and brainwashing of children by religions? Is it chi

Without killing like they do in Africa I hope.

I will accept indoctrination. At least you see how much damage it can do.

Yet the Western religion, Christianity was formed exactly that way when Constantine bought the church, changed it to what he wanted and killed off all dissent.

So it seems that the government can do what you say it cannot do.

They only ban what they do not like. I would only ban what are demonstrably lies.

    See the difference?

Freedom of though is a great thing but it is nullified by priests and imams who lie to the public constantly and by parents and peers who do not have the right mind set to denounce those lies.

The only lying I see the left doing at present is saying that Islam is a religion of peace and that Christianity is a moral religion.

Neither religion is worthy of our respect as both just produce homophobic and misogynous men.

Only those of low morals will contribute to either religion.

It is never the duty of government to decide to censor 'lies' from the population if that government purports to respect democratic ideals and the free flow of expression. If you have a problem with that, you need to find a nice benevolent dictatorship to live in. In this country,it is the job of the citizenry to discern those lies on their own or not, as they please. They get to lie too, and they get to tell their kids lies. Otherwise there would be no legal cross generational communication on any idea, including politics, ideology or religion or relationships. As for tax exempt status, I am open to a serious discussion on revoking it.

I would ban homosexual indoctrination in American school first.
You have to remember that one form of extremism inflates another forms of extremism.
All the problem with radical Islam had started only after Western countries begun practicing government sponsored homosexuality and feminism

First, you'll have to prove that assertion and that is going to be hard to do. Got a lot of double blind studies or anonymous and scientific polling data from that far back? Once you decide you have brought it, the let's hear you advocate for a return of his methods to extinguish religious ideas you don't like.

Only a highly indoctrinated, brainwashed or brain dead fool will think that the bible is the word of God.

That is a paraphrase of the conclusion of this Bishop.

Listen to how the bible became the word of God and see how lies and indoctrination works.

If you do not have the time for the whoe educational experience the start listening at about the 17 min. mark.

Freedom of thought includes all thoughts, even the ones you like to insult demean and belittle. You can't be an advocate for the concept, by deciding which ones are morally worthy and banning the rest. Either you are stupid or disingenuous and I don't think you are stupid.

Let me just add that the beliefs adopted when young continue into adulthood and in the following case, shows just how heartless a community can become, even to their own neighbors who are, as in this case, wrongfully accused.

I accept that parents can and do lie to their children and that they have a right to do so.

I do not accept that institutions that serve the public have that same right.

For evil to grow, all good people need do is nothing, --- and to do nothing against those who lie to the gullible for their cash is to be an accomplice to a crime. It is low grade fraud but fraud none the less.

Who other than myself should I look to for moral guidance?

I like free though and that is why I dislike priests and imams that demonstrably lie to children constantly about God.

You do not seem to care how badly our children are lied to so if one should question their morals it should be you.

We are our brothers keeper and to let our brothers be lied to constantly is quite evil.

As to being disingenuous towards those liars and those who support them, absolutely and thanks for the compliment.

You should be so disingenuous to liars instead of speaking up for them.

Are you suggesting that when the U.S. court outlawed I.D. teaching in schools and banned creationism that they were acting like a totalitarian regime?

First my use of the word 'and' was not accidental. It is a connecter between two phrases that I meant to stay connected. So to rephrase your question, "who else should I look to for moral guidance and a list of ideas to ban?" To which my answer will probably be obvious. Freedom of thought including untrue thoughts. Freedom of speech includes a freedom to lie. Those priests and imams are promoting ideas and they are included in any freedom of thought.

I do not know if priests or Imams constantly lie to children about God or not, but that is not the issue here. Lots of people and institutions do. The issue is whether or not we ought to add governmental bans to specific forms/ subjects of free speech, and assembly and religious exercise to our treasury of tactics in opposition to lies.

The question you are asking is do I care enough about the lies told to children to endorse this specific set of tactics that I am on record as opposing and is a refusal to endorse them evidence of indifference to lies to children. Nope. It is evidence that I believe in free speech, assembly and the free exercise of religion and that I will not risk those values because you can't handle the ideas/ lies Christians and Muslims or their clerics very maturely.

I don't know those cases. But according to your op you are advocating your beliefs to supersede the beliefs of others by using rule of law. Another example of how Atheism is inherently totaltarian.

Islam and Socialism are realms for the scum of the Earth. They produce mass graves for their victims that do not share their beliefs.

Parents should be given the benefit of the doubt. Local autonomy is an important value,;it's important parents be given some leeway, lest we ban treehouses and place children in sterile shrink wrap.

Off the top of my head, Germany is toying with banning the AfD party at the moment and has a long history of banning neo-fascist insignia and movements (I'm not saying this is unjustified), Britain and France inspect teachers for any sort of "radicalism" or ideological deviance, and Fidesz in Hungary, the PiS party in Poland and, if I remember rightly, the ruling parties in Slovakia and Romania too are busy curbing opposition at the moment. Not to mention the much more blatant banning of ideological opposition which goes on outside the West, in Russia and Central Asia, the Middle East, much of Latin America and Africa and the Asia Pacific - all of which occurs in capitalist countries. But as I keep saying, the West doesn't need to ban much intellectual exploration because we are in a period of reaction. Throughout the 19th and 20th century, bans on certain ideas were much more obvious. Look at post-revolutionary France, Prussia/Germany in the late 19th/early 20th century, and more recently the clampdown on intellectual freedom which came with the World Wars and the Cold War. When bourgeois governments feel threatened, they won't hesitate to clamp down, and nor will a future government of the working class.

Who else controls the government but the capitalist ruling class? Obviously the two aren't synonyms, but the government carries out the will of the ruling class and can therefore be used interchangeably with it in this context.

So is "intellectually healthy" a meaningless term or not? You seem to have an idea of what it means. I'm not talking about anyone's sense of logical (ir)responsibility; logic is pretty darn objective.

Lol, where did that come from? I have in fact been doing performing arts and creative writing for as long as I can remember, enjoy and have many opinions on many varieties of music, art and literature, and intend to study linguistics and literature or something along those lines in the future. I'm not planning to go into natural science and I sure as hell won't go into politics. But all of this is completely irrelevant.

Repetition is just further hedging against an honest answer to the question --- Are you suggesting that when the U.S. court outlawed I.D. teaching in schools and banned creationism that they were acting like a totalitarian regime?

The government has the right and the responsibility to insure that the education our children get does not damage them and lies are damaging to a mind.

That is why government has decided to keep the lie of Creationism away from our children. I just think that they should include all, the other lies that priests and imams are feeding the children on a constant basis.
