IOW, you admit that the Panama invasion was unique. Mexico was invaded in 1848 over a territorial dispute. Pershing went after Villa - did not catch him.

If you think the US invaded Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica to improve the treatment of US citizens you must be unfamiliar with the long history of USG indifference to the treatment of Americans overseas. Review the history of the War of 1812. The US did not go to war for sailors.

Lol...We don't care about that. We invade countries for their oil, going all the way back to the Mosaddegh coup in the 50s.
    Educate yourself.

Endless warfare will always end with an American retreat. We have done that a lot since 1945. If Obama is given credit for his social policy the lack of any real serious opposition is responsible. Obama;s most significant foreign policy accomplishment was resisting the calls for another land war.

I suspect that most Americans favor that approach. The next president who goes to war under current leadership and rules of engagement will encounter massive public resistance that will make the 60s look serene.

That's completely inaccurate. You have no military experience, do you? In order to win a war, you need laxer rules of engagement. Instead they've been tightened so tightly, there's no point of fighting now.

Remember, under the old ROE in 2001, we CRUSHED the Taliban, AQ, and took the country in days. It's when the Democrat stepped in, like Kerry, and said we're being "too mean to the terrorists".

The Democrats have done insurmountable damage to this war.

Read my posts then reply. I pointed out that we do not go to war over the treatment of US citizens.

Oil is one of many odd motives for US military adventures. There was no oil in Vietnam in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
The US has never had any pressing need to take oil from foreign sources. Surely you know that,

Review my posts. My position is that the US should not go to war again under current leadership and rules of engagement. We seem to be in complete agreement

So only if the treatment of US citizens is the sole reason does it count?

The indifference of the USG to the suffering of citizens overseas has been rather consistent throughout our history. There have been exceptions, especially under Obama who has been willing to pay ransom to recover selected prisoners - ditto Washington and Jefferson.

An argument can be made that the war against the Barbary pirates was motivated by concern over the fate of large numbers of captive Americans. But there were other issues. International trade and was an important issue for the early republic and the pirates were serious revenue drain.

Absolutely. A combatant with no risk and who is removed from the social reality of the fight in which he is involved.
