They used to. They still do, but they used to too: “The federal law that established the new CMP authorizes the Corporation to sell surplus .30 and.22 caliber military rifles, parts and ammunition to qualified U.S. citizens “for marksmanship”. Accordingly, the CMP sells government-surplus M1 Garands, .22 caliber target rifles and small quantities of other rifles to qualified purchasers.” https://thecmp.org/cmp_sales/
me-several Garands, several MI Carbines, two Kimber single shot target rifles and a couple Anschutz PCP air rifles, and a thousand or so rounds of Greek M1 Ball (30-06-for the Garands)
So many guns to try, so little time and money; still, I have been fortunate, but still looking for the magic gun/cartridge.
I have had a lot of firearms, some worth quite a bit, but the one that put more meat in the pot than all the others was an inherited 50’s vintage J.C. Higgins .22 bolt action I got when I was 17 or so. I put so man round threw it that shooting it was instinctual, and took much of my small game with head shots using those old leaf spring, ladder sights. Under 70 yards, if I could see it I could bag it. Was confiscated by one of my daughters. Funny how some guns just match your DNA.
