I don't doubt the statistics you and PT cite, at all.

Call it redneck or whatever other label you need to apply, but instituting and defending a policy of celibacy is inviting the behavior we have seen, for centuries. Some human behavior is predictable.

Not only Catholic leaders, but virtually the entire power structure of the City of Boston, including cops, prosecutors and judges.

If you haven't seen the award winning movie "Spotlight", based on a true story, you need to.

Sooner or later some priest somewhere will strike again. Totally predictable. But is it any more predictable than the next molestation by a married neighbor or gym coach?

Priests are volunteers -- 100% of them. And they are always free to leave, all of them, at any time, with or without reason. The Catholic Church doesn't round up virile young males and order them to enter a seminary and take vows of chastity. They tell seminarians, "If you want to be a priest, that's great. But we take vows of celibacy for reasons some people find weird. If you want to join us, come on in, but we want you to know we take this seriously and you have to take it seriously too. You can leave anytime you want. But don't embarrass the church or dishonor yourself."

    Be fair to the innocent.

The totally indefensible case that one has to defend at trial is rare. If the evidence is clear, 90% of our clients (at least) plead guilty.

If the defendant is clearly guilty and still insists on a trial, I don't tell the jury that "He is not guilty!" It's their job to decide who is guilty and who is not.
If my client tells me he shot or struck a man in self defense, how do I know that this is baseless? How do the police know, absent a confession? How does the jury know? None of us were there to witness what happened. Obviously if there is a videotape, that changes things, but usually there is not.

In my book, EVERY individual is innocent until proved guilty.

I stand by my statement--it is a foolish policy for any institution to have a policy of celibacy for young human males. That this policy is the result of dogma, theology or whatever does not make it sensible or defensible.

If the church wishes to refine their idiotic policy, they should consider castration, chemical or physical, as one of the requirements. Or perhaps a weekly circle-jerk overseen by the Bishop.

It might be argued that irrational policy, poor and harmful policy, will eventually lead to such corruption.

I would like to see the priests who helped cover up these crimes brought to justice too... there are many of them,

True, but if it wasn't for the sheep there would be no 'top'? That's the point.

Well there would certainly be a bit less bloodshed? Big religion is responsible for most of it though.

I suppose if all the muslims left the planet for another galaxy we might have a brief vacation from violence

But the true athiests would still attack the Christians

Comefian Dave Allen once said..."in heaven you can recognise the Catholic Church, they have the picket fence around it...to keep the others out"...

The human brain is an intelligent one but not smart enough to stop its vulnerability of becoming brainwashed.

I did read the bible twice. Then doubly convinced it wasnt worth believing. But this atheist doesnt care what religious people follow, I just detest their persistence that their is the right one and mine is silly and I'm missing out on so many blessings.

Well, so be it, at least I wasnt put at risk as a choir boy alone with an evil predator.

That is a scurrilous calumny without the slightest bit of justification.

And while in schools the victims might be older, I've read that it's much more prevalent in schools than the church.

Religious organizations are losing members steadily. This sort of thing will accelerate the loss. The church needs to clean it up, not by having meetings but by action.

So Gerald Risdale one of the priests that this paedophile christian defended, he raped young girls by accident did he, or maybe he just fancied a change!

There are a few straight priests also

No one has summerized it yet but most of the reported victims are boys

Sorry are you suggesting the majority of priests are homosexuals or the majority of priests who are paedophiles are homosexuals?

I am not saying how many Catholic priests are homosexuals

But because of the reports we have all are under suspicion of being perverts

I hope most priests are not pedophiles

but outwardly they all look the same
