The readout was among hundreds of pages of documents TPM obtained Monday through a Freedom of Information Act request laying out the extent to which, in 2019 and early 2020, Trump’s DHS welcomed We Build The Wall’s offer to privately finance construction of a border wall. Trump himself was struggling to fund his own oft-promised expanded border wall through government appropriations, and there was no hope that, as Trump claimed on the 2016 campaign trail, Mexico would pay for it.

The gambit, despite DHS’ encouragement, did not get very far, and came crashing to a halt last August when several people involved with We Build The Wall — including former Trump advisor Steve Bannon — were charged by a federal grand jury for allegedly defrauded the group’s donors. (Kobach himself was not among those indicted and has not been accused of any illegal activity.)

The Department of Homeland Security’s inspector general refused recommendations by career staffers to probe the agency’s handling of protests at Lafayette Square and the spread of the coronavirus in its ranks, according to a Washington Post report on Tuesday.

Citing internal documents and two people familiar with his decision, the Post reported that Joseph Cuffari, the DHS’ inspector general, denied his staff’s recommendation to investigate the role the Secret Service played in the aggressive clearing of largely peaceful protesters from Lafayette Square last June for Trump’s infamous photo-op.

Hillary fully cooperated, too, destroying numerous phones she initially claimed she didn't use with a hammer, and wiping the rest of her data with a "cloth".

South Korean President Moon Jae-in criticized former President Donald Trump’s diplomacy toward North Korea and failure to achieve denuclearization on the Korean Peninsula during his time in office.

“He beat around the bush and failed to pull it through,” Moon, who is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden in Washington next month, told The New York Times in an interview published Wednesday.

Report: Watchdog Finds Trump Admin Created Obstacles That Delayed Relief Aid To Puerto Rico

The Trump administration lined up unprecedented bureaucratic obstacles that delayed approximately $20 billion in hurricane relief for Puerto Rico, according to an inspector general report that could be released publicly as soon as Thursday.

In a 46-page document first reported by the Washington Post early Thursday, the inspector general said it uncovered procedural hurdles created by the White House budget office that stalled recovery aid despite efforts by Trump administration officials to obstruct its investigation into the delay by the request of Congress in 2019.

Hurricanes Irma and Maria had left Puerto Rico residents without power and clean water for months after ravaging the U.S. territory in 2017.

In this instance McCarthy is too embarrassed to do any unraveling.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) on Sunday refused to disclose the details of his call with then-President Donald Trump during the Capitol insurrection on Jan. 6, when McCarthy allegedly implored Trump to call off his supporters who were ransacking the Capitol.

The GOP leader dodged when Fox News host Chris Wallace asked if Trump had told him “well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election then you are” during that call, as recounted by Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA).

Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) on Monday pushed back on ongoing calls from Republicans to expand the scope of a proposed commission aimed at investigating the events of Jan. 6, suggesting that an effort to do so could undermine the gravity of the political violence that ensued when a pro-Trump mob stormed the Capitol.

“If we minimize what happened on Jan. 6th and if we appease it, then we will be in a situation where every election cycle, you could potentially have another constitutional crisis,” Cheney said in a Politico interview after the GOP kicked off its annual policy retreat in Florida. “If you get into a situation where we don’t guarantee a peaceful transfer of power, we won’t have learned the lessons of Jan. 6.”

“And you can’t bury our head in the sand,” she added. “It matters hugely to the survival of the country.”

Kudos to Liz for not letting members of the POT to minimize the magnitude of Trump's treachery.

“Domestic violent extremism poses the most lethal and persistent terrorism-related threat to our country today,” said Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. While today’s searches appear to have grown out of an investigation into Ukraine-born Rudy traveling and dirt-digging companions Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman, it’s not clear whether they’re related to one or many of the investigations into the former NYC mayor.

For Rudy, it’s a latticework of connected investigations with different allegations of wrongdoing. In this case, the search warrant reportedly mentioned an illegal foreign lobbying investigation, but the range of alleged misconduct here is broad.

It’s been a while, but the feds have been investigating Rudy since at least August 2019. The lines of inquiry into Rudy emerge broadly from the same situations and people that got Giuliani’s client, President Trump, impeached the first time around for using military aid to extort the Ukrainian government into smearing Joe Biden.

The New York Times reports that the Justice Department’s investigation into Rudy Giuliani is focusing on his campaign to get then-U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch fired in 2019, which was at the center of ex-President Donald Trump’s efforts to dig up dirt on Joe Biden at the time.

According to the Times, at least one of the search warrants that was used to seize Guliani’s electronics at his home and office on Wednesday sought to find the lawyer’s communications with Trump administration officials about Yovanovitch prior to her ouster, along with his communications with Ukrainian officials who had conflicts with the ambassador and her anti-corruption policy.

    NYT - what a joke.

"SOB, they fired him" - Biden.

Meanwhile, his crackhead son with no experience outside sleeping with relatives and using drugs, was appointed to the Ukrainian gas company's board for $83k/month, lol.
That was his side deal. His bigger deal was managing the $1.5 billion the Chinese gave him.

At issue for investigators is a key question: Did Mr. Giuliani go after Ms. Yovanovitch solely on behalf of Mr. Trump, who was his client at the time? Or was he also doing so on behalf of the Ukrainian officials, who wanted her removed for their own reasons?

It is a violation of federal law to lobby the United States government on behalf of foreign officials without registering with the Justice Department, and Mr. Giuliani never did so.

Even if the Ukrainians did not pay Mr. Giuliani, prosecutors could pursue the theory that they provided assistance by collecting information on the Bidens in exchange for her removal.

It's not going to be easy for the feds to make their case seeing as all the Trump officials involved will likely lie to protect Rudy...........and or themselves.

The F.B.I. stepped up its warnings about Russian disinformation before the 2020 election, including giving a defensive briefing to Mr. Giuliani, cautioning him that some of the information he was pushing on the Biden family was tainted by Russian intelligence’s efforts to spread disinformation, according to a person briefed on the matter.

We have video evidence of Biden bragging about firing the Ukraine prosecutor. It's literally a video. On record. Fact.
Your post is irrelevant compared to factual evidence recorded ON TAPE, lol.

If I need to, I can post it. In case you missed it because your blinders were on too tight.

Judge blasts Barr, Justice Dept. for ‘disingenuous’ handling of secret Trump obstruction memo

A federal judge has accused the Justice Department and then-Attorney General William P. Barr of misleading the court and public to hide how he decided that President Donald Trump should not be charged with obstructing special counsel Robert S. Mueller III’s Russia investigation.

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson of Washington ordered the release Monday of a 2019 memo prepared by the department’s Office of Legal Counsel. Barr and a string of Justice Department officials had sought to keep the memo secret, asserting it was part of the department’s internal decision-making process before he selectively announced the Mueller report’s findings that March.

Jackson wrote in a blistering opinion after viewing the memo and other evidence that the department’s claims “are so inconsistent with evidence in the record, they are not worthy of credence.”

My reading of Jackson's scathing ruling is she as much as calls the Bagman a liar (to Congress and the court) for using the privilege he used to keep the memo in question from the public on false pretenses. That being the lie it was part of the deliberation on whether Trump could be charged with obstruction when in fact Billy had already made up his mind to protect his boss. The same way he protected Individual 1 with his duplicitous, dishonest misrepresentation of Mueller's report.

McCarthy Worried About Having To Testify On Trump Call In Front Of Potential 1/6 Commission

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is reportedly worried about at least one thing in particular if Congress successfully put together a bipartisan commission to study the Capitol insurrection on January 6: Being forced to share under oath his allegedly explosive communications with then-President Donald Trump on that day.

CNN correspondent Jamie Gangel reported on Wednesday that McCarthy is, in her words, “very concerned” that the commission would call on him to testify on his call with Trump in which the GOP leader pleaded the President to call off the mob of his supporters.

“[McCarthy] does not want to do that,” Gangel said.

The House Republican leader, who’s been hard at work trying to get into Trump’s good graces in the aftermath of the insurrection, refuses to discuss the details of that call, especially when asked to confirm Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler’s (R-WA) claim that Trump had told him “well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election then you are.”

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/...ump-call-in-front-of-potential-1-6-commission

Kevin firmly believes he needs Trump for Repubs to take back the House. He embraces Don even as he should be shunning him.

The Justice Department obtained call records for the phones of three Washington Post reporters last year in an apparent bid to discover the sources for a 2017 story detailing a sensitive aspect of the federal investigation into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russia, the newspaper said Friday.

Federal investigators used court orders to obtain so-called toll records on phones used by a trio of Post reporters who worked on a July 2017 story about intelligence intercepts indicating that Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak told superiors he discussed issues related to Russia with then-Trump campaign adviser Jeff Sessions during the 2016 presidential race, according to the Post.
