Suffering does not make one good. Often just the opposite.

Why should China succeed where the British, French, Belgians failed?

What good did the Gulf War do, except for rich oil sheiks?

To send in mercs in order to mine resources isn't done. Warlords excepted.

I would truly put some effort into a response
if a reply from @LangleyMan was more of a dialog
and not an attack by a mad (rabid) dog.

    Guilt by label, Oh My!

The manner of the with-drawl, while shocking to the neocon establishment , will not change much on the ground with respect ISIS.

I do feel sorry for the Kurds but, this is something that needs to be worked out between Syria and Turkey.

Complete BS and non sequitur fallacy on steroids. The Taliban had nothing to do with 911 and did not allow anything any more than the Pentagon allowed the Boston Bomber.

I don't deny that mercs are used. I deny they are used to thieve natural resources.
Last time I checked... "blood diamonds" can not be legally sold.

The Taliban allowed al Qaeda to use Afghanistan as a safe haven.

Reestablished the strategic balance in the Middle East. The Dumb Kid blew that up when he started the Iraq War in 2003.

We're involved in the region. I don't think it would be easy to unring that bell by leaving. It certainly didn't work in the 1990s.

That's the whole point ffs - you shouldn't be. The only thing that's been happening over the years is 'patrolling' (although don't ask me 'patrolling for what?' because I've never known); so all the talibs have to do is place their IEDs, then detonate them when the next patrol comes along. I mean what the ****?? Watch Bitter Lake for goodness sake, and find out for yourself what a farce it's all been, and for no effing return whatsoever.

The war costs 0.24% of GDP. It won't break us.

From that idiotic response I can only assume you're not a relative of one of the fallen?

We're training the Afghans. We only had 1 KIA in 2016.

Jesus this is scary! The Afghans should be training themselves ffs?? They know more about insurgency warfare and how best to deal with it than any of us in the West because they're a warrior race. It's in their DNA. I've just posted on another thread How can an adult have so little insight into world affairs, and I'm needing to ask it again now.

Yes, but you moved the topic on a bit by trying to justify it?

    Thoughts?

    My thoughts are these:

1). You've got Al Qaida that was created, supplied, and funded by the U.S.

2). The Yankees with a case of the heebie-jeebies who are shooting everything that moves.

3). There are the NATO lackies who are only there to kiss Washington's butthole.

4). You've got the Taliban who don't know which way is up and who's who.

5). And to top it all off you've got my lads (the Swedes) who claim to be "keeping the peace" but no one (absolutely no one) knows what the frap they are doing there other than staying as far away from the action as possible and trying to convince the indigenous population that "not all white people are bad guys".

I say you bulldoze them all off the playing field and send them home to plant potatoes in their garden.

The only thing I can't stomach is the same-o same-o American BS that we've heard so many times that we all know it by heart.

If Afghanistan disintegrates the Yankees will be saying, "You see! you see! Without us they didn't have a chance!" :blahblah:

If Afghanistan repairs itself and gets back on its feet the Yankees will be saying, "You see how well they adapted once we showed them the way!" :blahblah:

Has anyone taken a look around lately? I see burkas and botches and buggers who have come to my own country to contaminate it so what was that now the west said about going to Afghanistan and freeing the people from their primitive social filth? My thoughts? Screw all of them. I say we exchange them one for one .... ship over one Ghani for one of our own sent back home to us.

Good grief. You're carrying on about a small number of KIAs and how the war will break us.

I was never a big fan of getting involved in Afghanistan in screwing with the Soviets. We opened Pandora's box. But once involved, it's not as easy as asking foe a do-over.

Perhaps, but I see it more as explaining why we have to make the best of a bad situation.

Quite obviously you're not the father of one of that 'small number of KIAs'? Actually, that small number was 2,372. I'm not prepared to spend any more of my time on your nonsense.
