In all fairness a mental disorder or illness is described as a mental or behavioral pattern that causes either suffering or a poor ability to function in ordinary life.

If it doesn't cause suffering or poor ability to function it wouldn't me a mental illness, but if it does it is.

I think the only thing we can say is that it is a mental illness for some people.

It's not the dysphoria that's causing the problems though. It's the depression, anxiety etc. that goes along with it that are the disorders.

Disphoria in many cases causes depression anxiety and other mood disorders. I would say such mood disorders are symptoms.

Desire to have your penis removed is not the same thing as transgenderism.

Have people desired to have their penis removed who were not transgender?

Two years ago it was named a "gender disorder". They simply changed the name to gender dysphoria. AND STILL, it is listed in the "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders". It is the same thing it was two years ago, regardless of the name change.

So it doesn't say what you claimed it to?

    - - - Updated - - -

I've explained this several times sex reassignment surgery doesn't involve the removal of a penis.

People should really read up on things before shooting off nonsense.

Why would that be a disorder? If it's the thing causing the disease then it's the illness. Symptoms are how the illness manifests itself. A symptom of a mood disorder would be depression, the mood disorder itself isn't a symptom (unless there is an underlying for why a person has a mood disorder).

    - - - Updated - - -

And what did the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual have to say about that? That it's not a disorder. It's not something that infringes upon a person's ability to function in society.

    - - - Updated - - -

You are aware that it has to do with gender and not sex? Or that they need credibility in order to be reliable?

The sky high suicide rates would seem to indicate otherwise.

Probably about 90% of it is removed.

You are correct. Some people the cause may be gender disphoria.

    - - - Updated - - -

    No it doesn't.

If it does what are the specific failures to "treat" gender disphoria?

Yes, but why? Is it because of gender identity? Or is it because of bigots scaring people and discriminating against them?

It is not "nonsense" to say that the penis is removed when 90% of it is removed.

Yes, even if it is prescribed. Think about the goal of the surgery. It is to change the look of something. Regardless of whether the change in appearance is said to treat any psychological illness.

Nope, removal of the testicles is to stop their production of hormones.

You don't have to remove the testicles to stop production of hormones. Removal of them is cosmetic.

You believe what you sooooo desperately need to believe. A complete hysterectomy isn't done for cosmetic reasons. Neither is the removal of testicles.
