    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/14/us-texas-abortion-idUSTRE80C2BD20120114

"The law, enacted in 2011, requires abortion providers to perform an ultrasound on pregnant women, show and describe the image to them, and play sounds of the fetal heartbeat. Though women can decline to view images or hear the heartbeat, they must listen to a description of the exam"

The abortion promoters wanted to keep the mother from knowing the truth by blocking a requirement that the would be killer had to be played the heartbeat of the child in utero prior to being allowed to commit the abortion.

"While a woman seeking an abortion can decline to view the legally required ultrasound and the heartbeat, she cannot decline to hear the physician's description of it unless she qualifies for an exception due to rape, incest or fetal abnormality."

At least there is no way one cannot say she is responsible for the life she kills at that point.

Yet another law proven ineffective for reducing abortion, so its only purpose is to punish women. So what's new?

Do you people have anything else to go on besides the retarded emotional rantings about "punishing women"?

Come with something of substance for once in your life.

OK, what do YOU think the purpose of this law is?

Well, the ultrasound is medically unnecessary. The Texas legislators that approved of this legislation just seek to try to convince her to not go through the abortion, but the legislation only bureaucratizes abortions. The notion of added bureaucracy for private entities seems to be something conservatives would not like.

I don't think a woman who's decided on having an abortion would change her mind over hearing a heartbeat or seeing images of the fetus.

Why is it your business what others do with their own bodies?

A medically unnecessary procedure is being tacked on. I think that the pro-lifers should get the bill.

Since it has been proven that women don't change their minds after viewing ultrasounds, what do you think the purpose could be?

Why don't you try this out and see if it isn't punishment:

Also, are the victims of this law required to pay for this procedure themselves?

Hopefully, this will be class-actioned and what ever states decide to implement this will be sued to the point where they can't afford to pass anymore laws of this nature.

Well gee, punishing women by forcing them to pay for an unnecessary procedure.
Would you like to foot the bill for those ultrasounds? Especially the internal ultrasounds. Ever had one of them? Nah, didn't think so. They are torture, and forcing a woman to have one is, in my mind, nothing short of rape.

Of course not, reasonable and intelligent people just wish to keep self righteous not jobs and religious zealots from intruding in other people's lives. It is actually that simple.

Well that is not the issue as you know. You and yours want to convince her it isn't a human being. Hard to beleive once you hear the heartbeat.

Well something here is real simple,

Actually homicide is one of those things we should all want other people to have a say in, not just allow the killer to decide if it is OK!

A brain dead person hooked up to life support still has a heartbeat. We should change the family members who dare to remove that life support with murder!

Not the point. Whaler mentioned heartbeat, I gave another example of heartbeat.

For the attribute important for deciding whether something is a person or an object (presence of mind), brain dean human = fetus.

You just can't prevail in your struggle to be intelligent or relevant, thus you fall back on condescending tripe.
