Time to wake up, genius. "Das Fuhrer" means "the guide". While "Der Fuhrer" means "the leader". Guess which one that Hitler preferred?
It's no one else's fault but your own if you didn't take advantage of the huge number of benefits you get in the military.
You say this but every time it comes up for a vote it's almost exclusively the conservatives pushing to take funding from our veterans Are you claiming that only liberals want to fund the troops? Or just the veterans because conservatives want to give our soldiers the best weapons on the battlefield while liberals want to pinch pennies. But that's politics. I'm talking about all the hate for the military spewing from the libs who post on this board. They jump at every opportunity they can get to attack our soldiers and I think I know why. They hate the war and elected Obama to end the wars but he hasn't. If Bush were still president you could vent your anger on him but libs can't bring themselves to attack Obama that way so they take it out on the troops instead.
our guys were also photographed taking a break in Saddam's palace after they invaded Iraq. Does that make them Hussein supporters?
What's with you and your ilk, Agent_286? Has your hatred of the military robbed you of the simple ability to deduce that the acronym for sniper scout is SS? OMFG!!! FLAMING NEO-NAZIS!!!!!
Okay, for all of you hysterical dip-switches who don't know typography from a freakin' hole in the ground, pay attention! School is in session: Notice the letter form in the SS insignia on this helmet: Now compare it to the type in this flag: Do you notice the difference or do I have to point it out to you? Look at the different angles of the horizontal strokes in the S's. They're NOT the same logo...
That's not what was said. What was said was "they get paid well", not "they get great benefits". It's really irrelevant to the topic at hand anyway, as we don't do it to get rich.
I think people need to lighten up before shooting off their mouth. We don't need the press breathing down the neck of our troops, trying to make them constantly look bad. They have it hard enough without the American public turning on them too.
How is it the liberals trying to pinch pennies? The conservatives want to slash federal spending and taxation, where do you think the Armed Forces get their funding? That's right from federal tax revenue. You can't keep slashing taxes and expect the military budget to remain untouched. More and more the conservatives whinge about spending money America doesn't have, except they're the ones pushing to spend it. So you don't feel the military, as the ones charged with defending our democracy, should be held to the highest of standards? No they don't. They jump at the opportunity to point out that we aren't living up to our own ideals. Pointing out flaws isn't an attack. That's because it's a lot harder to stop a war than start one. We've got a lot of equipment in Iraq and A-stan, it takes a lot of time and capital to move it out. Except they can. For example, you seem to think Obama is a liberal of some form, his actions so far have demonstrated that he's actually far more conservative than Reagan ever was: Obama never negotiated with terrorists, Obama never supported amnesty, Obama never sat down with an enemy power without preconditions, Obama hasn't raised taxes four times, and Obama didn't cut and run when our troops were attacked. Obama is at best a center-right politician.
No they don't. They jump at the opportunity to point out that we aren't living up to our own ideals. Pointing out flaws isn't an attack. I hope you aren't talking about the same ideals shown by many on this board. If you are, than we do have something to complain about. Many should have half the ideals shown by our troups under the worst conditions we put them in.
Obama is cutting $500 billion dollars from the defense budget with more cuts planned in the future. That will cost young American soldiers their lives someday when they have to go into battle with less than they should have to fight with. Republicans do want to cut spending but they want to reduce government in all areas rather than just in the military as Obama wants to do.
No it wasn't. The swastika is a common symbol found around the world. http://history1900s.about.com/cs/swastika/a/swastikahistory.htm...if you want to present facts...then present facts.
In all fairness, it more closely resembles the S's in the Kiss logo. I'm not saying that you're doing this, Herkdriver, but it's hardly surprising to find people trying to associate these Marines and the Corps, in general, with the Nazis instead of Kiss...
Haha, soldiering is the oldest profession on earth. It's also one of the most difficult. How does it not fit the criteria of a "real" job.
If you showed those two letters to most of the population in America out of context they probably couldn't place it without hints. I've spent a lot of time studying WWII history and, when I first saw that picture without any captions, it took me a few seconds to place. It seemed familiar but not anywhere near as blatant as other Nazis symbols. Scout Sniper platoons (not Sniper Scouts) are very well known in the Marine Corps. They're a specialized platoon in every BN that only takes volunteers who go through a rigorous selection process. Their professional identities are formed around their profession. They found a "cool" font with two letter Ss and tossed it in their picture. It's probably hard for civilains, who tend not to understand unit cohesion/identity, to understand this. Also, how can you make such a flippant comment about the intelligence of 200,000 people? 200,000 people who have more education than the "average" American. No one's claiming your average Marine is a Harvard grad, but you have to understand that 75% of the population doesn't live within the snobby sphere of intellectual elistism, or in many cases the illusion of intellectual elitism, that many on this forum have. You may know more about History than these Marines, but they possess other skills and traits that are equally commendable.
A lie by omission is still a lie. It's $500 billion over a decade minimum with the max being $1 trillion, that works out to $50-100 billion a year. We can safely afford to cut that much. This wouldn't be necessary if conservatives would actually listen to reason and let us eliminate the loopholes that allow companies like Exxon and General Electric to profit billions from the US market but somehow get a negative tax rate, or let us raise corporate and income taxes to sane level, or let us implement an NHS-style healthcare system that would cut our medical expenditures by half. We might be able to actually afford that stuff along with actually getting a working (*)(*)(*)(*)ing space program again. It's conservatives who are penny pinching not only the military but the whole (*)(*)(*)(*) country to death.
Is that so? Maybe the ignoramuses who indulge in that generalization should actually meet some of today's Marines so they can find out otherwise. Well, there's no doubting the fact that the people who have made an issue out of this don't know the difference between the type in the SS insignia and the type on that flag.
Safety is in the eye of the beholder. I notice that Obama never served in the military so the budget cuts will not endanger him or his children. And since it's mostly the lower classes who must die we can afford to cut more and I'm sure libs will if they get the chance. But someday it will cost young American soldiers their lives when they go into combat without the advantage of superior weapons.
Kopfjager is German for "head hunter"... Like it or not this platoon is intentionally using Third Reich symbolism...
