If we open everything up, then hospitals will be overwhelmed and hundreds of thousands will die in a short timeframe. Things will be very bad if hopitals have to start turning people away.

That's not the same. Other drivers are aware of the risk of accidents when they get behind the wheel. A potential sex partner would not be made aware of the risk if that information is withheld.

It is, and for the same reasons you state.

    1. To prevent the wearer's germs from contaminating someone else.
    2. To protect the wearer from contamination by someone else.

Not the point dude the shut down at this point in time isn't stopping anything. It merely delays the inevitable and not by enough to matter. By the time the vaccine is ready there will either be very few people who need it, or it will have been shown to be valueless by people catching it multiple times.

Please try and address my post intellectually. I’ve never implied there was a hoax. It’s sad those like you who wish to control the behavior of others are so ignorant of facts.

You have been conditioned to believe known liars and vested interests, and of course 'the authorities'. You have been conditioned to let other "experts" do your thinking for you.

Some of us reject that and think for ourselves and analyze the facts for ourselves.

One of the many facts available is that the infection is rarely fatal.

Another fact is that the people have been terrorized by men wearing business suits with US Flag lapel pins.

Another fact is that many people don't realize, and do not want to understand, that they've been deceived. No change there, life goes on. Cognitive dissonance is widespread and powerful.

That's the kind of ignorance of the facts that caused a resurgence of the first wave.

The measures taken when the outbreak first occurred worked to suppress the spread. They worked here and around the world. We know what works and we know what caused the resurgence. It was opening too early and too many idiots following the Liar-in-Chief's lead by not taking the virus seriously.

Our pandemic response is stalling. And it’s made worse by Trump’s ignorance

THE PANDEMIC response in the United States is stalling. Left to a patchwork of 50 states, absent a national strategy, buffeted by multiple outbreaks from premature openings, and now facing critical decisions about risks of reopening schools, the nation is headed in the wrong direction. Keys to slowing the pandemic — diagnostic testing, contact tracing, personal protective equipment, wearing face masks — are all faltering. President Trump has his head in the sand.

A critical pillar of containing the pandemic is diagnostic testing. An average of 634,000 people a day were tested over the past week, but that is way below the nationwide target of 1.6 million daily tests needed for mitigation of the virus, and far below what would be necessary to suppress it, according to a methodology developed by the Harvard Global Health Institute.

Much effort has been put on educating people about this pandemic. But without the participation of a President* who just sees it as a "political inconvenience", his loyalists are not going to be much help in solving the problem. They are just going to undermine the efforts and prolong this crisis for another year.

Trump's only response has been to try to find some political advantage in death and human suffering. So he motivates the most extremist among his base with a dog-whistle to spew their racism. It's sad that the worst human crisis this country faced in over a century came precisely at a time when the worst possible person to handle it was in power.

You mean I've been conditioned to follow the advice of medical experts, as opposed to just accepting the medical expertise of Donald Trump and other anti-mask fascists?

    That's hilarious!

Where, in this post, is anyone advocating 'shutting down'? Its about wearing a mask which will enable the economy to open up! When it was first re opened, people were not social distancing and wearing masks...so the cases spiked, hospitals became overwhelmed and the death rate went up. So do it right NOW - thus enabling us to get everything back to full open.

And that's exactly what the controls are seeking to avoid, needless death because we have overwhelmed our healthcare system, and we have largely accomplished that.

It's really to bad that the Health Professionals initially lied their asses off about masks to cover their previous blunder of not replenishing our emergency mask stock after Obama used up 75% of our mask stock in 2009.

But, now that their lies have been exposed, and people finally have better information they are making better decisions.

Our dedicated president traveled to Walter Reed Medical Center to visit wounded soldiers and front-line health care workers.
When it wasn't necessary, he didn't wear it.
The president informed Telemundo that he’ll wear a mask when necessary and he thinks he looks good in one – like the Lone Ranger. His face mask is fashionably set with the presidential seal and will surely be a collectors item. Members of the press have finally began wearing face masks as well.

In the first days of mitigating the coronavirus, the lying "experts" destroyed their credibility by telling everyone it wasn’t really necessary to wear a face mask. They later admitted that they were lying because they didn't want to admit that after Obama used up 75% of our strategic mask supply in 2009 that they hadn't replenished it. So they lied to the American People to steer remaining supplies to medical personnel and first responders. Dr. Fauci, the CDC, the Surgeon General, and everyone else who lied, then flipped on the subject and started instructing everyone to wear a mask in public.

Demented Biden often wears his mask leaves his nose unprotected. He's so advanced in dementia that he doesn't realize that wearing a mask under your nose is like wearing a condom on your scrotum and thinking you're "wearing protection".

Even if Trump didn't need to wear a mask, he should have worn one to set an example. There are so many cases where he was indoors with many people and didn't wear a mask at all. He also has held many rallies without any social distancing and minimal mask wearing.

It's unfortunate that the Health Care experts covered up their failure with lies, but now even the press has finally taken to wearing masks.

The hale and hearty Trump by the way just looks smashing in his, his used masks, after one is placed in the Smithsonian, will likely be auctioned off for millions with the proceeds donated to worthy charities. In contrast to Rapidly Dementing Joe, it's nice to have a President capable of learning new things and effectively tailoring his behavior to rapidly changing circumstances:

Direct me to your posts calling out the increasingly frail and rapidly dementing Joe for stupidly wearing his mask under his nose.

Currently we are failing to control the virus. A bit part of this failure can be blamed on Trump and his administration.

They could have been suggested people make their own masks without taking away resources from hospitals. They were probably confused whether masks were really that effective. Trump refused to wear a mask long after they get their message right.

I agree that we weren't properly prepared for this pandemic. Trump had three years to replenish our stock and properly fund pandemic research and response. Even now we are unexplicable undersupplied for another wave of cases.
I don't care who he visits. I care about effective measures to beat this virus.

We have many examples of Trump not wearing a mask during his rallies, visits to plants, and meeting people in Washington. Even if he didn't need to, he should have set the example, the minute it was clear mask wearing was the right thing to do. He should have nationally mandated mask wearing.

Nobody care how good Trump looks in a mask. Nobody cares how much money Trump will make from his mask. We want a president who will beat this virus.

Biden certainly isn't perfect but at least he wore a mask as a time when Trump didn't.

This virus will never be controlled until there is a vaccine or the government mandates Wuhan violent police tactics for violators and welding people in their homes for breaking quarantine.

Actually other developed nations have been able to control the virus with common sense lockdowns that actually worked without police-state tactics. Japan and South Korea were even able to beat the virus without an actual lockdown at all.

Direct me to your outraged posts at Blue Governors who are not enforcing state-wide mask wearing.
You have an amazing grasp of the painfully obvious
    [IMG]

Do you think the virus grades on the curve? Says to itself: "Well, at least this idiot did something stupid, that had something to do with a mask, I won't infect him!"

Your "angst" seems a bit convenient and contrived.

Trump on the other hand looks rather splendid in his properly donned mask.

Two Supertypes of Coronavirus: “East Asian” and “European”

Morbidity and Mortality per 1 million population in two groups of countries since the start of explosion

The strain we are dealing with is much more deadly:

It's unlikely that they are different "strains" in the sense that they behave "differently". But just "variants", The fact is that the "European" variant affected more countries in which the nation's government, at one point or another, behaved irresponsibly when dealing with it: Italy, Spain, Brasil, the UK ... and, most notably of all by far... US

For this reason alone it was sure to cause more dead.
