Would you drown a baby, if you thought its parents were evil?

If God knows the future...then He's already knows who will be "saved" and who won't. That's Calvinism. Also means there's no point in believing in God or Jesus. If you do, but God already knows you're going to Hell, you're wasting your time.

So you just demonstrated that you don't know what Calvinism is.

Of course it is. I wielded it against my sunday school teachers like a razor sharp sword when I was in 6th grade. Nothing better than to have someone quote the bible as fact then point out to that person a contradicting statement from the same document. LOL it was written by multiple people who obviously got contradicting statements from...."god".

I should have been more accurate and said "Predestination". I apologize.

Any other objections to what I've posted on this thread?

It sounds so different from my life experience, being raised by religious parents, or having to go to schools where they taught it.

Mom told me about religious beliefs kind of like the national geographic tells about native tribes and their customs.

Next time a "pro-lifer" tries to convince you "God opposes abortion, says so in the Bible!"....

read off 1 Samuel 15:3 to them. Or, as here, ask them about all the babies who drowned in the Flood. God of the OT engaged not in abortion...but actual infanticide.

Even that isn't what predestination is. Predestination does not mean that God chooses people randomly and what you do on earth, or if you believe, doesn't mean anything. Where did you learn that?

Where did I say "God chose people randomly"? (Remember your lecture on "reading comprhension?)

I said if God knows the future, he would know who would be "saved" and who would not before hand....before they were even born, mind you?

Now, tell me the theological definition of "Predestination"...not just what it "isn't"?

You're not really that daft - it's okay to admit you made a mistake. Really, it won't kill you.

actually what he said is entirely logical. the only daftness is in trying to explain it from the theistic point of view. which I note you've avoided doing :)

that razor sharp sword is a killer.

The text in chapter 6 Genesis speaks about Gods sadness and his painfull heart as a reaction and a reason for the flood. So I would say god expected something else from us when he created the world. And I would say the creation is not a kind of experiment for god. God is directly envolved - he's inside. That's maybe one of his problems, if he has problems at all ... Why do you think did he not kill Noah, his family and the animals Noah saved?

Normaly nearly all human beings from nearly all cultures and religions on this planet agree that it is not allowed to kill human beings - except on reasons of [extended] self-defense. I guess you agree also in this intersubjective or intercultural paradigma. The problem is now not a special text of the bible any longer. You have to understand a big part of the bible if you like to understand details of the bible, what's often not so easy.

The poblem here in case of abortion is now much more simple: a dog bears dogs. You don't understand? A cat bears cats! You still don't understand? ... Hmmm ... Do you understand now? ... Not? ... Are you sure? ... What do you kill if you kill a cat-fetus or a dog-fetus? ... What do you kill if you kill the fetus of a human-being? ...

So what? Agnosticism is a part of my philosophy too.

Someone should perhaps flood the anglo-american culture because the people in this culture make completly senseless wars out of everything what they don't understand.

I don't share this view on the world. I would say: We are the flood - we are killing the life on this planet in the moment.

"Make it like god - become human" - (quote from an unknown german protester some years ago)

Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen. - (quote from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

I'm looking forward to the Noah's Ark movie.

If I had to hazard a guess with my imperfect understanding of the Bible, the flood occurred before Jesus came down, which meant that original sin still existed. So pre-Jesus / New Testament man could be categorically killed for being fundamentally evil, whereas post-Jesus / New Testament, more discernment was appropriate.

Yes I have those experiences as well except Ive always needed explanations from people even at a young age when they try to tell me something is fact. If they weren't able to support their statements I typically wrote what them off as being full of it.

Yes Ive used that not to argue against pro life but to argue only a truly evil entity would murder innocent babies and children. This is where the religious cite original sin. Its a clever way to get around what you have cited. You and I know drowning an innocent child for whatever reason is probably the best illustration of evil one can come up with. Therefore a true god in the definition is not evil and therefore the bible proves itself a lie by the very contradictions written in it.

That is about as imperfect as you could easily get, if you think it all really happened.

You base your outrage on your perception that this world you stand on is the only world in existence---that those children went from existing to "nothing". When you understand God, you realize that there is an eternity--and when you understand Salvation you realize that people must become like little children--innocent through the blood of Christ. I wouldn't worry about the babies---I think they are fine. Many innocent children die in collateral damage during our wars---and unfortunately its a part of war that can't be avoided because as one side strives to avoid hurting the innocent the other side uses them as a shield. Children die, babies die, and frankly we all die eventually. But babies are innocent and they still exist even after they die.

Just to clarify, man can do nothing to earth. The earth will be here long after we are gone. We can only ruin our habitat that only hurts ourselves not earth. Earth doesn't care if it has clean water for you to drink or food to eat. The Earth has survived accretion, asteroid impacts, volcanoes, and numerous other scenarios on scales we cant comprehend. Humans are here for a brief period nothing more. Enjoy it while you are here. We are one impact away from mass extinction. Given the Earth resides in a cosmic shooting gallery where rocks the size of cities travel at eight miles per second the odds say its not a matter of if only when.

    That's what you think.

That's also only something what you think.

    Strange view

    ?

Comprehend? What should we not be able to understand in case of the situation on planet earth and why?

    That's what you think.

"enjoy" means to use drugs or something like this, I guess.

    We are what?

What was her name and why did she leave you?

I am a Christian.......God did not flood the world. It has already been established that this same parable or story occurred way back in the olden days before the internet. The Biblical story is just that a retelling of a parable that had been passed around in many cultures previous.

There is absolutely no indication in the Bible that Genesis is anything other than a collection of local myths. We believe that Revelations is a metaphor so why is it so hard to make the same conclusion about Genesis as well. The entire Bible is filled with metaphors and parodies but somehow some people have decided that the most unbelievable ones are the ones that actually happened. This makes no sense at all to me.

When will people realize that the Bible as we know it today was organized by the medieval Roman Catholic church (you know the same guys that gave us indulgences) and you could pay for people to be let out of purgatory. Seriously? I believe in God but I don't do it because of a hodgepodge of works that were approved or disapproved entirely based on a political process where compromises and mistakes were bound to occur.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here.

The teachings of Jesus and the new testament signaled a pretty fundamental shift in how western civilization viewed guilt and innocence, so criticizing an old testament story in an attempt to attack people that are mostly new testament followers makes no sense.

East is east, west is west.

    Im not criticizing or attacking.

If part of the bible is supposed to be true, and another isnt, that isnt my deal, I dont know if its yours.

All i had to say is that any reading of the bible that relies in any way on the flood or some other stories being true is automatically wrong.
