The USA was born of a war for independence, too. Washington lost battle after battle. Without French help, the war would have continued.

But, I don't believe that US would have surrendered simply because the Brits were better armed and trained, or because nobody gave us help. Our drive for freedom would have continued.

We have freedom because we demanded it, and because we paid the high price for it.

Pretending that Ukraine isn't doing the same is not supportable.

We are a loooong way from our founding. We don't have Democracy here any longer. We don't pick our presidents. It is already predetermined before the primaries are even complete, a total ****ing illusion. Bringing up our founding is pretty pointless.
We do have freedom when we demand it. Since 9-11 we have demanded that the government erode our freedoms at a greater rate than they were already vanishing.

But, like I said, we are on the verge of demanding freedom again. All of the corruption is going to be flushed away soon. People are waking up to how badly they have had the wool pulled over their eyes.

    Well, that was dramatic.

You might make suggestions concerning how we could move toward your utopia.

Let's remember that the first significant action of the Warsaw Pact was to invade Czechoslovakia.

Yes, we absolutely WERE concerned about Russia extending it's political direction into the Americas. Are you not aware of the nukes Russia was building in Cuba?

OK, I guess that is a pretty good end to this discussion.

exactly my point. And you saw how we reacted to that. Why would you not expect Russia to act the same when we have maintained such an adversarial stance? After the Cold War, we should have done everything in our power to get Russia into NATO. Either that or disband NATO Altogether. But, instead we were stupid, and now we are paying for it.

USA politics has always had a STRONG anti-Russia direction that stretches back farther than WWII and USSR.

We have had the House Unamerican Activities Committy. Joseph McCarthy's age of McCarthyism. And, a massive Right Wing direction of identifying anyone who considered so much as talking to USSR/Russia as being communists that must be denied political (and economic) life.

The right wing assured there was no political possibility of relations with Russia.

Right or wrong, our political history has LONG been that USSR/Russia is the enemy that must not be discussed other than AS an enemy.

Suggesting that we should have admitted Russia to NATOL is pretty fanciful stuff. And, the outcome of Russia membership can not be considered a sure block to Putin conquering Ukraine.

well all that tells me that our past was full of ****, and it is time to fix things in the full light of day, where the whole world can see, and all hypocrisy is cast aside. The past is that.., the past. We do not have to nor should we look to policies of the past to guide the present. Take the entire steaming pile of **** that is our past political dealings and throw them in the fire. It has no room in todays world.

Anyone post this yet? I'm not reading this thread.

Pro Russian blogger who "committed suicide" shortly after revealing the casualties Russia lost taking this city. 16000

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/2...revealed-huge-avdiivka-losses-dies-by-suicide

"Andrey Morozov, a prominent pro-war Russian blogger, has reportedly died by suicide following outrage over a post in which he claimed that the Russian army lost 16,000 soldiers during the capture of the eastern Ukrainian city of Avdiivka."

Neither you nor the world can ignore who we are.

And, guessing that America has been a steaming pile of hypocrisy is not acceptable, even though that is the political position of the right wing today.

What we can do is to make the best decisions we can manage to make.

That does seem to be a pattern for Russians who report less than glowing accolades.

Neutrality is a spineless side. I'll take Western Democracy side over Russian communist propaganda side any day of the week.

left wing and right wing are the same thing. All their views change depending on who is in office, and is completely irrelevant in pretty much everything. Two sides of the same BS coin.

picking sides is the spineless side, the east way out of truly solving problems. All points of view are legitimate and should be taken into account to find compromise and peace. Taking a side regardless of what is occurring results in the madness that is occurring today.

The human spirit is finally evolving to a point where we can do away with the divisions that have plagued humanity since the dawn of time. Some are just further along than others on this path, which is fine. But the world is changing for the better. And “picking sides” just to be on a sode, without considering the cost in human lives and suffering is now the ultimate in cowardice.

what we see in the Ukraine is a result of “picking sides”. What we see in Gaza is a result of “picking sides”. The only side that should be picked is the well being and unity of humanity.

some may say that is a utopian fairy tale. It isn’t. It only requires getting rid of the plague of elites that have dictated world events for millennia. All of the wars have been avoidable. What was lacking what communication and collective knowledge. Now the elites are increasingly unable to get away with their BS. The world is changing, for the better.

Realists can't afford to be naive. There are true evil leaders (Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Putin, etc) that have no 'legitimate points of view' that we should never 'compromise' with.

The left and right want very different directions today.

    My own preference is democracy.

The part of taking words in their usual or most basic sense without metaphor or allegory; why do you ask?

lol, what a load of crap. You say that as we support genocide in Palestine. We are as guilty as any of them.
Your “realist” ideas are what society has hammered into you, illusions that perpetuate the conflict in the world today. Illusions that make you choose sides so you can be herded and mined of your energy like sheep. It is all garbage.

hitler did not rise in a vacuum. His rise was a reaction, an imbalance that forced a person like Hitler into the scene. Your insistence on what is real, which is itself just an illusion that society has shoved down your throat, is what perpetuates the problems in the world and in our governments today. Stop being a sheep. Stop being a slave. Wake the hell up.

left and right are what keep us from having a democracy. They continually rig the game, in reality both subservient to the same elites. This rigging ensures that no matter if the left or right win, the elites rigging the game win. It is time to shatter the left-right paradigm.

Tell all this hogwash to the 54 people that were burned alive in Odesa, ukraine. Burned alive by those that came to power as a result of YOUR tax dollars being spent on NAZIS responsible for an illegal COUP.

The foreign dictator was the US government. Like it does all around the damn world. Then, like magic, the brand new 'democracy' that's NOT a democracy at all is armed by the US MIC. ****ing *******ned nazis armed by YOUR tax dollars. Committing genocide with US weapons YOU paid for.

    Wake up.

This is a civil war started in 2014 by US intervention. The people that were burned alive, those that were mowed down in Crimea, the thousands upon thousand that were genocided in Donetsk and Luhansk......THOSE PEOPLE wanted their democratically elected government, their freedom.....not some Victoria Nuland CIA bullshit.

That is a lie. The Russian dictator would have been even more likely to have been an aggressor/invader if we didn't let in countries which wanted to join NATO.

It was a tiny town not even a city. Just four square miles. Oh, and, yes, Putin has people killed simply for telling the truth. 16,000 dead and something like 35,000 wounded. For four square miles.

No wonder Putler wants to hide the body count for his optional war of aggression.

no, not in the sense we see lately. I think it comes far earlier, with who is funded and supported by the powers that be. and the two party system is the ultimate filter that keeps the unwanted candidates out.

The stolen election at the ballots is just a distraction.

instead, we ensured he was the aggressor, taking the guesswork out of it. Yay, go us..

Your reasoning makes no sense. It might make sense in the early 20th or 19th centuries, but not in todays world. There is nothing to gain from conquest in todays world except as buffer zones. There is far more to gain through international cooperation and negotiation, if we would deal honestly and without trying to profit off of the negotiations. That is something we never do. We have become lazy, relying only on force, and the stick over the carrot.
