Dark Matter is something that either they are really really looking at as a potential thing, or it is simply one of the things they are looking into and the media makes it out to be "the answer", but it's not a fact, yet.

Science, definitely, can have mistakes, but the way they go about their proofing is much more sound than, say, people believe Dark Matter is real, therefor it is real, and then trying to bridge other facts to fit in and around an idea without basis.

In the past...I'm not so sure. I think the two seemed much more intertwined. Religion still had it's stories, but they were still attempts o answer questions about the world around you- like "Where did we all come from?" or "How did the land form?" The two likely co-existed before they were ever known as "science" or "religion", but...who knows?

I heard an interesting story from someone who taught in a remote village that had been forced to relocate not so long before.

There were two hills nearby, larger and smaller. The story was that a giant had been carrying a hill but dropped it. it broke, and a piece made the smaller hill.

The teacher thought it interesting that they had an "ancient" tradition in a place people had not long lived, and tracked it back to someone whose Grandmother had just thought up the story to answer a child's question.

Really, how else would there be such a story? But apparently it was "received knowledge" in the village, everyone knew the story and accepted it.

But I already said it was not proven.."It is thought to exist by science for very good reasons, but yet not proven."
    In the ancient past...
I was thinking like the "Galileo affair" for instance.
Can't you think of any reasons why the existence of a God or a creator being might be logical?

not a single one. the universe seems far more marvellous as an indifferent thing, containing nothing in the way of rhyme or reason. the chaos is beyond beautiful. and that's at my most romantic and credulous. the application of logic just adds a little light to the picture.

Liked that one :) That would make a cool story to tell your kids.

I wasn't disagreeing with you or anything, I just tend to talk on an bit.

But, as for God, I don't have anything against the belief in a God of some sort. He can't be disproved, therefor the possibility always exists that he does exist. However, I disagree with religion. I think they are false representations of something that does evidently not express itself in any intelligible way. It's my opinion, but I think the people who claim to hear God, the creator of ALL, (take in just how big ALL is) talk about their personal life struggles, are making it up in some way. It was what I challenged in my OP. It's arrogant, I know, but straightforward. Sorry if I offended.

You don't seem arrogant at all.
I like the question and was trying to come up with
an answer that would satisfy my own curiosity.
Perhaps it's the "religious" definition of God that just doesn't fit.
Maybe if the job description of God was accurate,
it would not be so hard to accept.

It also seems to me the universe is so far beyond the capacity of a
being to be the maker of it, let alone far greater than it!

The ancients recognized that Science must start with the postulate of some First Cause, which the Theologians had already termed "god."

What we believe today though we have no way to prove it, is that pure initial Energy, existing outside of the present Universe, transformed into the Space/Time which is required by the Matter it transformed into.

Inherent in Energy are all the Natural Laws of the Physics we study that focuses upon Energy as a discipline.
Whereas we can not define exactly what Energy is, we know it comes in seven types and can exist in three forms.

This is as vague as any definition for God of the Bible, and compares well with it when we understand that there is a Force behind the ever unfolding next frame of Reality which sires Truth in its wake.

Truth becomes our mediator and savior from the force of Reality which can be good or bad for man, depending upon how man behaves.
In that sense, Reality is the almighty, and Truth is the messiah.

There are an awful lot of Chinese, mentioned for those who dont know it. Some of them do different things.

I've never eaten cat or dog or worms. The idea is utterly revolting to me.

Here are equally true statements about Americans:

-they like to sniff gasoline, and put it in the crib so the baby will sleep
    -they eat out of dumpsters
-they eat cats dogs and worms
    -they smell bad
    -they are stupid bigots

What a nightmare to have such people be the future of mankind.

Anyone feel it is inappropriate in some way to go about speaking of Americans this way?
