On the one hand I feel awful for this poor woman. This just shows that conservatives are unfit to govern. Just insane. But on the other hand I am pleased that conservatives are exposing themselves as unfit to lead prior to the 2024 election. I’m sure most conservatives on this forum won’t see the problem with the story. But that’s okay because they are outnumbered by moderates who will be repulsed by it.

I am still not seeing an abuse of a corpse charge and an overzealous DA on this. This should be dropped.

What concerns me, however, is her leaving the hospital against the advice by medical staff. It is not illegal, and is part of the medical bill of rights under state law, but she did this three times. The concern is that she should have stayed in the hospital to treat her medical issues even though she went there three times and checked out herself three times. So, it would be interesting what the medical staff said to her when they were treating her,.

    Fake News.

    1) this isn't even about abortion. Miscarriage isn't abortion.
    2) a rogue attorney miss-applying law isn't equivalent to Republicans making bad law.

Yes it is because if Roe v Wade was not overturned, then this was not even been considered.

Second, there are states that are proposing such laws as we speak that already have to make this legal and codified in law.

Google it. You’ll find links to it everywhere. Do you at least concede that it is beyond absurd to charge a woman for having a miscarriage? After all, that’s why you think the story is fake.

When did I say this is about abortion? The only connection between this and abortion is it is another instance in which conservatives are wrong on the law.

Do you agree that these charges are bogus and should be dropped?

It's so absurd I don't think it's real. Reading something on the internet doesn't make it real.

The media is notorious for cooking up crap like this.

Well it seems you are dead set on the belief that everyone in the media is in on the same scheme to make up this fake story. But at least you acknowledge that the charges are bogus.

Still using that pathetic retort. :)

There it is in black and white, and RWers still can't accept the reality.

Just another example of how far these zealots will go for power. I remember, just states rights, BS, they want power and will bend and break the rules to obtain.

Do you believe that all of the media outlets reporting this are in cahoots to scam us? For what purpose?

no I think they're more like buzzards, they'll seize upon the opportunity to politicize something because that's what they do they don't report news
It's not paranoid if they have a history of it

But I understand you say the sort of thing to make you feel better.

I think part of the problem (as designed by the American Taliban lawmakers) was to so confuse the doctors as to whether they could treat her or not.... and she got understandably scared and frustrated.

    SNIP
Watts returned on September 20 expecting to be induced to deliver her preterm pregnancy, according to The Washington Post. But for hours doctors and officials mulled the ethics of inducing labor for a woman who had been diagnosed with preterm premature rupture of membranes (PPROM), had no detectable amniotic fluid, was bleeding vaginally and had advanced cervical dilation, the Post reported. Watts eventually left.
    ENDSNIP

That "mulling of ethics" is a clear nod to fearing prosecution if they treated this woman.... again, by design.

Another sad story of being a pregnant woman in a repressive zone...

Sure, if it really was her toilet and not left in a public toilet left for some child to find. If it was a public toilet she should pay fines but hopefully no time.

The attorney should lose their job and the case dropped if this was in the privacy of her home in her own toilet.

In any case, unless a child did find the miscarriage, I don't see a jury and/or enforcing this.

Miscarriages - especially early ones are not that recognisable. There is an awful lot of bloody tissue clots, placenta amnion etc that makes it hard to identify the embryo

If this story is fully accurate and I have no reason to doubt it, that's bordering insanity to charge her. Only one way to stop this "crazy", women, en masse, have to get out and vote in every party election.

But this one was 17 - 18 weeks my point was to earlier pregnancy losses and believe me it is not uncommon for miscarriages to happen in toilets - ask any ED nurse

This has been ongoing for quite some time and the only way to address it is to get the spotlight onto the problem

    It’s 100% not fake

That was a Tuesday in September. What followed was a harrowing three days entailing: multiple trips to the hospital; Watts miscarrying into, and then flushing and plunging, a toilet at her home; a police investigation of those actions; and Watts, who is Black, being charged with abuse of a corpse. That’s a fifth-degree felony punishable by up to a year in prison and a $2,500 fine.
