Call me cold, but just how 'supportive' would people or parents be if the affirmative care, hormones and other care necessary for a minor, were not covered by insurance, and it had to come out of the parent's pocket?

It's easy to support things, when 'insurance' (other people) is paying for it. If it is that important to someone, then they should be paying the cost of it.

A person can't make decisions about their own adult sexuality until they are sexually mature. That's simple.

Gender is not the same as sexuality.

Give me a break. That's like asking a pre-law student to appear before the Supreme Court.

Whoa! I believe they exist, I don't believe I am certain as to who they are or whether they will stay that way and not deeply regret their "therapy" later on.

Let us know when you figure it out.

Until that time, we need to stop giving life-altering drugs to children that have not finished puberty. It is far worse to alter the life of a child based on a mistake, then it is to delay transition until one is an adult and legally capable of making that type of decision.

It is ridiculous that a child cannot legally get a tattoo because it is permanent, but some people let a child make a decision of this magnitude with their undeveloped brains.

I'm not qualified to figure it out. Neither are you.

Sexuality is who you want to bang.

    Gender is who you are.

    That's not a difficult distinction.

Transsexual children exist, but not nearly in the numbers that Democrats claim they do. It seems like the Democrats want to make it into a fashionable lifestyle. In fact it is a tragedy for the families involved because the child will always have issues and will face a difficult life. It’s better to be gay than trans.

Agreed, which is precisely why you cannot inexorably alter the lives of children until it is "figured out".

It is hard to imagine it will be "figured out" in our lifetimes.

Maybe not, but we should keep trying to figure it out (or at least allow people qualified to keep discussing it) instead of saying it's not something worth discussing.

Keep trying to figure it out. Nobody is trying to stop anyone from creating an objective test or stopping anyone from discussing it.

What people are trying to stop is giving children life-altering drugs based on their understandably childlike and thus incomplete perception of their world.

What gives you the right to stop them?

This is not about me, but society has the same right to stop them as they do with any other law that requires a person to be an adult before taking part, of which there are many.

Is there a law already on the books that requires a trans person to be an adult before obtaining health care?

I think we should be more concerned about kids getting Ritalin like candy. That has a much bigger impact on society.

LOL... which side is trying to circumvent the will of patients, doctors, and parents again in order to push their social engineering agenda? Oh yeah, republicans.

And I assume you're a psychiatrist or MD in adolescent medicine to hold such a strong opinion on something most people can't even begin to understand? Or you at least read the papers on the outcomes for different therapeutic approaches to this problem?

I have long since made my point.

This is not a battle of attrition to see who can most successfully continually reiterate their point with slightly different wording with each response.

It is time to move on. We have both had our say.

Data would be better than an anecdote. It actually seems that regret is fairly rare from what I've seen. And you see your story as a positive outcome that they are still cis, but also call them troubled. Would they be less troubled had they actually transitioned? Who knows. That's one reason why studies are useful and not just intuition and anecdotes.

Please stop pretending as if I presented that as anything other than a relevant anecdote. As far as saying she might be better off if she had went through with it despite her beliefs right now.....I would say that the numbers show an inordinately high suicide rate for people that do and do not go forward with their transition. This reality does not necessarily support that transitioning takes these troubled people and turn them into non-troubled people.

You say rare. How rare? Why isn't it far worse to make the occasional error where you destroy someones life by depriving them of their puberty and naturally endowed biological processes, rather than waiting until that person is an adult before starting hormone therapy? I realize you may get a better outcome if done earlier, but given the risk of a child being incorrect about such a complex topic, why not eliminate the risk and trade that for a slightly worse but still adequate outcome when they do become an adult?

What I am suggesting is the same notion of allowing a guilty man to go free with such a high burden of proof so that you do not convict an innocent man. It is better to let 10 guilty men go free than to imprison one innocent man incorrectly. Why do you not think that the same type of overly cautious burden of proof should apply here when we are talking about the beliefs coming from a child that you likely would still not allow to go to the mall alone?

I fail to see how the whims of a child should supersede their naturally endowed biological processes. Waiting until they are an adult is not an unreasonable requirement. We say they are incapable of entering into a contract, they should most certainly be declared incapable of making such a life-altering decision as halting their puberty process. I don't think the numbers that support your position are all that high in the big picture, but there are more of that mindset than one would expect. I have to assume that the majority of people holding your position do not have children.

It is shocking that this debate even needs to be had.

    This ain't rocket science folks.
it is not a good idea to chop of the weiner or breasts of a MINOR
If they wanna do it when they are older, that is THEIR choice
Why oh why can't people just grasp common sense anymore?
I'm sure you all know of the girl Chloe who had was FAST TRACKED by leftist gender affirming care to get her breasts CHOPPED off and now regrets it. Perhaps one should stop and think, hey, maybe this is not such a great idea
    DOH!!!!

Neutering a child is quite effective after puberty.

It’s the same way today with tattoos and breast implants, it seems more and more people are having it done. Now should a seven year old be allowed to get a face tattoo because he really, really wants one because he said it would make him happy for the rest of his life?

But a teacher is? Stop pushing this stuff in schools because they’re not qualified either.
