I don't know how any lib can deny this blatant double standard and keep a straight face.

I agree with about half. Private or not, I think it's okay to make jokes about. So I consider that part moot. But the part about him being a comedian, yeah I agree. It's okay for him to say these things, obviously not in large doses, but it's good for a joke.

But I also do have to point out how he insults Rush, even as he gives his defense.

Not sure what this has to do with the topic, care to comment on it?

Do you have a problem with what Rush said?
Do you have a problem with what Maher said?

    "(*)(*)(*)(*)?"

    Not usually.

But libs invented smut talk so how can they complain when Limbaugh imitates them?

Well it is totally different. A completely different context. While I don't approve of Maher calling Palin a (*)(*)(*)(*), he did so during a stand up routine.

Limbaugh called a law student speaking her opinion on contraceptives a slut and a prostitute and demanded be allowed to watch sex tapes of her, all because of what he (inaccurately) thought she said about contraceptive costs. He did this on public radio waves without joking in the slightest.

If you can't see the difference you are just fooling yourself. Besides, whatever any other entertainer has ever said, it in no way excuses Rush or his appologists.

Maher said it best himself. Try reading it from a less biased source.

Rush makes jokes all the time. So if he would have laughed after he called Fluke a slut, you would accept it and laugh with him?

Mahers impotent act of self defense should be the very definition of rationalization. Being a comedian doesn't give you carte blanch to say whatever you want and public figure or not, you can't whine about Limbaugh and then turn around and say...but I can say what I want.

Not with any legitimacy you can't. Maher has none.

Oh please, let's not pretend Fluke was this innocent little poor struggling law student. She's a democratic women's activist and has been for years. You can twist it as much as you'd like, it's still a sl*t and a c*nt, not matter if it's a joke or not.

But he didn't laugh. That's the point. He was serious. Hypothetical situations mean nothing.

But if he had just stopped with a quick slut quip, this probably wouldn't be the controversy that it is. But he didn't stop there. He also called her a prostitute and demanded tapes of her having sex be posted online, and worse he said all this based on a lie that he manufactured in his head. And he was completely serious the entire time.

Too much of something is a posion. Rush doesn't make jokes. They are insults. Insults can be funny. But not Rush's. They're just mean. Comedy isn't about being mean, it's about being a joke and something to laugh at.

the more you type, the more ridiculous it sounds. Do you really think Rush was completely serious, figuratively and literally, saying he demanded sex tapes? Do you not know how to recognize sarcasm?

If I made a joke about your mom and called her a c*nt and a sl*t, I guess you'd have no problem with it. You'd just laugh if off, right?

I agree that Limbaugh went too far.

And he apologized for what he said.

But I also think Fluke deserved to be insulted for her attacks on religious freedom.

So Limbaugh's real mistake was not carving her up in a more skillful manner.

Which he is fully capable of doing.

So Maher wasn't being mean calling Palin a c*nt. I'm sure her family thought he was just hilarious!

I love comedy. I also enjoy listening to Rush, and sometimes he makes me laugh, especially when he imitates the voice of his opponents and talks with a lisp. It's freakin' funny. Maher can be funny too. However, if the media is going to turn the front page news against one for insulting a female and justify the other based on their political standing, that's when I have a problem!

This really gets on right wingers nerves doesn't it? You guys really get upset that comedians and political commentators rightfully have different standards!! The host of meet the press, cannot say the same things the host of a cable television comedy show can. I understand this is a terrible travesty to right wingers, but it is actually perfectly sensible.

I haven't watched the clip where he calls Palin the c word, so I can't tell for sure.

But I can guess from watching Maher before, that he was trying to tell a joke.

    I never said that.

Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, David Letterman, etc... they all like to get political and then when they get caught.... hey... I'm just a comedian.

This Fluke woman made herself a public figure when she became an activist... she compounded that when she got in the public square and made false statements and totally partisan attacks.

Bill Maher and the liberals are once again... INTELLECTUALLY DISHONEST.
