I see no benefit to a merger. I like visiting the US, but I really like coming home after time out of the country.
This book, “REDRAWING WORLD MAP” (subtitle: “Exploration of Unification Between Countries”, is also available on amazon.com. This book explores not only unification between Canada and the USA, but also unification between Mexico and its two small southern neighbors, unification between Chile and Argentina, unification between France and the two tiny states along the southern border of France, unification between South Africa and Lesotho, and unification between a few pairs of other small countries.
No, the U.S. and Canada cannot join and form one country. For starters, who would want Quebec? Get real. On the other hand, would Canada want Detroit and Chicago? Not hardly. If it were just one big country, where would Canadians go when they needed timely medical care or if they were having multiple premature births? A few years ago, before you were born, I'm sure, there was a book entitled, "The Nine Nations of North America". The author took the premise that people in the northwest U.S. and B.C. in Canada had a lot more in common with each other than either did with Washington D.C. or Ottowa. The same idea applied to southern California and Mexico and southern Florida and the Carribean. The plains states in the U.S. and Canada has much in common with each other and nothing in common with their respective national governments. I thought it was an interesting premise and concept.
Come on guys, (and gals) You aren't thinking big enough. The real reason Canada and The U.S. cant merge together is because of the rest of the world. The U.S. is in major debt with china right now. And i'm sure that Canada would not like to join a country with a debt issue. And, many country's are pissed at the U.S. Canada has no real enemy's, while We have a lot of enemy's. Canada also has many country's they trade with, that the U.S. does not. I'm sure they would not like to continue trade with the New merged country. This is also besides the fact that if we do join, we will be sending a message to all the country's in the world that we are trying to look like a bigger and more refined country, when this "Merge" will just lead to a civil war inside the country because there are certain people out there that want thing back that way they were. And will fight the other half to try and change it. We are better off being 2 different country.
YES! It is the perfect idea!!! Canada and america are so much alike!!! canada will also help the america with the national debt! and everyone would adapt so well! we might as well already be a combined country. We are so much alike. practically in every way. and all the other country's will want to trade with us more, because we will have more resources then we did alone! its the perfect plan. Its like we would all be one happy big country.
Unless US reform its health care system, financial structure, repay its debt, change its foreign policy, Canada doesn't want to unify with the US.
Canadians are a toned down, milder version of US. They appreciate European values yet maintain an adventurous heart like their American neighbours.
<<< MOD EDIT: INSULT REMOVED >>> I bet you think that when canada and the U.S. join, then everything will be all hunky dory. well, everything will go wrong in due time after they do. It will be a horrible thing if they join within the next 6 months-3 years because out country is so messed up.
Canada has as many people as California. It would not be a merger, we should just take it. Period. Same with Mexico. Expansionism is natural. We all live in elitist society because of "the strongest survive" mentality, yet we as a nation allow a world court to hold us back from manifest destiny? All 3 would blend perfectly. The south for cheap labor for the north. The low level entrepreneurs getting land in the south to develop. The fresh water, natural gas and oil of the extreme north. America has the military muscle to turn north America into a super state that could flourish leaving the rest of the world to fend for themselves. We just need to get globalists out of our business. Globalism just benefits the top class while the rest go downhill, expansionism benefits the whole of the nation. I would rather elite in control who side with the working class of their respective nation, than elite who prefer the elite of other nations at the expense of their own working class.
Hey!~ I am intitled to my own reasons for thinking that!!~ you have no right!!! Plus im Right any way.
I disagree with this, the US and Canada may seem similar at first, on the surface level, but if you delve deeper into the fundamentals and morals that either country is based upon you will realize that America is way different. The US believes that a huge army and extreme military power are the keys to success as a county. This is not apparent at first, when looking at how the US is a country "about the people, and for the people". But America has strayed from these views and the only way America and Canada could ever get together is if America gets its act together, and show the rest of the world how to lead!
That's where you're wrong. The whole world can not escape America....they have their tentacles everywhere, pretty much one way or another influencing the politics of any country that has any perceived interests to the US.
The world resists America, but Canada bends over. The path of least resistance is to give Canada what she wants...a really rough rogering. Canadians are unique in all of human history. Do you want to know why?
You type without thinking. Globalists have had outright control over my nation for 100 years. Have shown their true colors and intentions over the last 30. They care more about "the world" than the people they are "elected" to represent. They have stunted genuine American growth ever since WW2, for the benefit of the "world", because the expansion of the top's financial power is all that mattered to them, under the guise of "world peace" and the prevention of WW3. The entire modernization of the planet post WW2 is in thanks to Americans. Not the elite who simply arranged the theft from the shadows through corruption, but the people who make up America, 100s of millions of workers who spend the entirety of their lives chasing a carrot that gets smaller and farther away no matter how much faster they run. All so a bunch of people around the world can think they earned that dime of the stolen dollar themselves. And what is our reward, when the state of the planet after WW2 would have merited any other nation to take over it and make slaves of you all? We get nothing but hatred and blame for your own faults because we aren't working to give the rest more. Give a mouse a cookie, and he is going to want a glass of milk. The America you all think you hate is the one that is under control of an elite class who cares about your interests more than the workers who live here. Such a situation is a house made of glass, by all means, throw rocks and (*)(*)(*)(*) the workers of America off more. The nationalists of 1930's Germany didn't have access to 3 oceans and 1000s of ICBMs. You punks are playing with fire, and we'll bury our traitorous, globalized elite with you all.
There is no way this should happen. Both countries have developed along completely different historical lines. For anyone who wishes to learn more about Canada, I would recommend the book A Fair Country: Telling Truths About Canada by John Ralston Saul. His theory is basically that Canadian society is influenced most heavily by the Native American cultures, not American or European. Very interesting read.
I "love" America would be happy to see the U.S. would place the channel between Canada and Mexico. The poster says - strait named after Stalin.
