I don't see an upside for the US. we'd get a pile of muslims, court system that generally coddles them, a miserable health care system that even Croats come over to take advantage of, another open border and more anti america grief.

Certainly not. Especially when you are putting in yours for us. We might be laughing and we aren't stupid.

Canada will have difficulty in the coming decades in retaining control of its far north. It's military can't access it in sufficient numbers. No one recognizes Canadian claims to the continental shelf sloping into the Arctic Ocean. Russia actively contests those claims.

there is no pipeline being built, it's only talk at least 10 yrs off if it is built.

China already owns a portion of our oil, we sold it to them. But that makes no differences because it's market driven, the market decides what oil is sold to whom, americans if their buying oil from canada are buying chinese oil:mrgreen: too. One of China's billion dollar purchases came from buying shares of Cononco Phillips an american company, China is a major stakeholder of Canadian oil.

absolutely false, continental shelf is ours and the Russians recognize it. Disputes are over the Lomonosov range and whether it belongs to Canada or Russians continental shelf. Denmark is also expected to claim it. All parties are submitting their claims to a United Nations Commission for arbitration which could take 10 to 20 years for a decision. There will be no armed conflict over this.

The only international dispute is over the NWP and sea routes.

What is wrong with Muslims and an open border? We can't change the court system or health care? There would be a transition period of course if the 2 countries did merge, and we would find out what works best.

The Convention on the Continental Shelf (UNCLOS I, II and III) is UN agreement signed by Russian, Canada, Denmark, US recognizing ownership of continental shelf for resource development, only dispute is over where one countries claim begins and the others end and that's for the UN commission to decide.

How typically Canadian to think that legalisms will protect them.

UNCLOS I dates from 1958 when no one truly knew the extent of the continental shelf sloping into the Arctic Ocean. America has not signed or ratified UNCLOS III. Canada's claims are disputed by both America and Russia.

Besides, China has yet to stake its claims. Have you read about the voyages of the Chinese icebreaker Snow Dragon?

One cannot keep what one cannot defend. The western era of human history is coming to an end. The UN will be viewed increasingly as illegitimate because it cannot adapt to the new world.

Legalisms. That's funny...unless one is Canadian. Treaties are only enforceable to the extent they can be defended on the ground or at sea. Canada has a world of hurt coming.

The article says that Canadians are confident about Canadian claims. So what. The French were confident about the Maginot Line as well.

Haven't you claimed elsewhere that the US is almost finished? Will Canada's world of hurt be before or after your claim that the imminent demise of your country is closer than one believes?

And the United States was confident that WMD's existed somewhere and spent 10 years of hurt for...........................nothing, except for a gigantic hole in their economy.

That depends on timing. With America gone Canada won't have a protector.

Canada has always had a protector and master. First it was the French Empire. Then the British Empire. Then the American Empire.

Considering the Chinese penetration of your economy perhaps Canada will become a protectorate of Han China. But the Chinese are harsh taskmasters.

Who says you'd have to take a step backwards? There are some things the U.S. can improve on and some things Canada can improve on.

Then we might have to go fishing. China has a nice ring to it. Peaceful country - to anyone other than an American. Plenty of cash to spread around - if what they have of yours doesn't turn to dust, yes, it sounds somewhat refreshing to have a Chinese protector at our southern border.

A one mile wide ditch filled with explosives, on the 49th parallel, would be a good start.

I like how you think Canada's government having more power is a good thing. There was a poster here recently from Canada who was talking about how proud he was that his country's freedom of speech was more restricted than America's. Talk about Stockholm syndrome.

Pal, I'm with you on this. The Amerikan left killed my version of America and replaced it with a POS country I call Amerika. If China can help bring down the Amerikan left, more power to them.

haha. You should stick to economics and finance. The Vietnamese, Japanese, South Koreans, Tibetans, Indians, and Uighurs would disagree with you adamantly. The Han Chinese follow the advice of Sun Tzu. It's better to defeat an enemy without having to fight. That's what they've done to Amerika.
