In a country like the U.S., abortion policy revolves around the individual woman's rights versus rights of the unborn human fetus. But in an authoritarian Communist country like China, neither of these are really considerations. Instead it's all about whether the nation thinks that they need more or less babies being born, at a particular time. Immediately after the war, in the 1950s, with widescale devastation and the fledgling new Communist country seeking to become more powerful and grow, abortion was banned in China, and women were pressured to have more children and big families. Later, there were concerns about overpopulation, so in 1980 China implemented the "one child policy". Coming under pressure from the national government, many provincial level governments in China even began a policy of coercing and forcing women to have abortions. This reached a peak in the late 1980s to mid 1990s, with some documented cases up to as late as 2011. threads about that here: Forced Abortion and Unwanted Girl Babies in China Forced Abortion in China: "I could hear the baby cry" China - Forced abortion confirmed Almost comically, it looks like the Chinese government has now once again changed the course of its abortion policy. China restricts abortions for 'non-medical purposes' - Al Jazeera, September 2021 The Chinese government has just issued new guidelines restricting the number of abortions that can be performed. Even before this, the government had already enacted policy excluding mothers with only one child from medical insurance and social welfare payments. The country had already enacted strict measures aimed at preventing sex-selective abortions in 2006, and in 2018 the health authorities launched a campaign warning that the use of abortion to end unwanted pregnancies was harmful to women's bodies and risks causing infertility. The new policy is believed to be in response to China's declining birth rate, which policymakers believe will cause demographic, economic and societal problems in China's future. thread with more information about that here: China has an intractable demographic problem China's National Health Commission data shows that between 2014 and 2018, there had been an average of 9.7 million abortions per year, rising about 51 percent from the 2009-2013 average, despite a relaxation of the "family planning" policies in 2015. In other words, despite government reducing the pressures on women to have fewer children, women were actually having more abortions, probably in response to increasing urbanization and rapidly expanding job opportunities, mostly in factories with very long hours. Another factor may have been that due to China's Hukou system, migrant workers would have to pay for their children's education, since their family does not have a permit to live in that area, which probably put more pressure on some of these people not to have children. There was a huge wave of people moving from other provinces to the big cities near the east coast for better economic opportunities during this time. So first the Chinese Communist Party banned abortions, then they started forcing women to have abortions, and finally they have now begun to ban women from having abortions again.
So you admire Communist China for treating women like cattle and banning abortion and then forcing abortion? Why? Isn't that what Anti-Choicers want ....to control women's reproduction just like a Communist country??
I just think it's very ironic. The Communist Party was formed by a bunch of Leftists. The Left talks about "women's rights" and "sexual freedom", but why don't we take a look at what happens when their adversaries are finally totally out of the picture and they cement complete autocratic control? We can see in numerous examples in Communist countries, once they finally took complete control, they were fine with either forcing women to have abortions (China) or banning women from having abortions (Romania), whatever the situation called for, considering the "greatest good" and "needs of the collective". There have also been reports leaking out that forced abortions are commonplace in North Korean prison camps that house entire families. Russia is a funny case to. When the Communists first came to power they quickly legalized abortion, which was unusual at that time in most countries in Europe. (It's interesting to note for comparison that in that same year, 1920, France, seen as the most sexually liberal country at the time, banned abortion) Then starting in 1936 Stalin banned abortions. Nothing really to do with "protecting lives" of course, since Stalin had killed millions of people before the war in purges and planned starvation of the Ukrainians (1933). Rather it was to try to restore population numbers since Russia had lost so many people. This was even more the case in the aftermath of the war when the Soviet Union had lost 26 million soldiers and civilians. Abortion was legalized again in 1955 (two years after Stalin's death), but only permitted in state-run hospitals. One of the reasons the government had legalized it was because there were concerns that illegal do-it-yourself abortions could sabotage women's ability to have children again and ultimately hamper population growth. Even as late as 1966 the government was still sending out propaganda with the title "Abortion will deprive you of happiness".
Why do you think the communist party in china is left wing? Our concept of left/right, doesn't exist in China.
I suppose this is as good as any of the examples mr Obama was musing about when he suggested ruling in China was far easier than in the US....
LMAO.... When the "left" suddenly becomes invisible even to their own.... Democrats want this in the US, of course, they cannot possibly admit to it in public....
I think US will also reverse course in 15-20 years when the unwanted kids grow up in the streets and crime and homelessness begins to rise back to 1990s levels. It might reverse even before that when welfare spending increases as the family sizes in low income minority groups increases. I am pro-life, but we have to be realistic about the consequences of our actions.
You're not claiming they didn't start off Left wing, are you? The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was founded on Leftist principles. For those who do not know, only CCP members, who make up about 10% of the adult population, can vote. The system of election to government is not direct, but rather each level votes for a level above it, and there are numerous levels. For the most part, people don't really choose whether they want to be a member of the CCP. It's not really an option for many, while it is kind of forced on other groups of people. For example, if you are a teacher in a state-run school, you will be pressured to join, even if you do not really want to. The CCP leadership, of course, exert a strong influence on who will be nominated for election and how its members will vote. The majority of the time the voting is just a rubber stamp for what CCP leadership have already decided. Voters cannot organize outside the Party, the Party would feel very threatened and take almost any measure to prevent that.
China and it's dipshit authoritarian one child policy ****ed up their population. They are estimated to have that population halved by 2050. There is no chance to reverse this.
I'm saying that left/right are concepts that don't exist in China. The CCP has always been a mix of ideas that included things from what we would consider both the left and the right.
Really? Tell us what type of ideas "from the Right" they started off with. Or did those ideas "evolve" and come to be over time, even though they started off completely Leftist?
Uh, it is the RIGHT who constantly tries to control women through abortions laws ....where TF have you been....has their attack on women's rights been INVISIBLE TO YOU?
LOL...uh, it 's the righties here in this country who are cojnsatntly attacking women through abortion laws....gee, your tunnel vision is awesome.. So you admire Communist China for treating women like cattle and banning abortion and then forcing abortion? Why? Isn't that what Anti-Choicers want ....to control women's reproduction just like a Communist country?? So you admire Communist China for treating women like cattle and banning abortion and then forcing abortion? Why? And there in lies the actual problem. If you invent a right, it shouldn't surprise anyone that said "right" could be deinvested. And frankly, it seems entirely dishonest for liberals to suggest that a woman can kill the unborn, and at the same time, argue in court that a pregnant woman cannot be jailed because the "fetus" isn't charged... I haven't seen anyone suggest that women cannot have abortions, only that they be reasonable, not after say the threshold of say pain inflicted by the abortion, etc. To be honest, women themselves seem to entirely be willing to both declare that they can kill their unborn and at the same time use them to avoid punishment for their crimes, and at other times, use them as research and development income etc. It begs credulity. So when we start having an actual discussion about the country democrats are most tightly aligned to, China, and their sudden whiplash of a policy that now makes abortions illegal (that whole population inverted pyramid thing and all) are liberals suddenly lining up at the Chinese consulate's to protest? And if not, why? China, the topic of the conversation doesn't value rights at all. And yet, I still haven't seen you chastise them for the policy that is responsible for the creation of this thread. Democrats have long held the belief that China is the answer to their authoritarian ways. And now? Crickets. It's about how the opposition party doesn't like abortion. It's weak, at best, as a persuasive tool.
Which seems to be the leftist/democratic party's dogma these days. So, given they are "invented" according to you, why bitch if they are then removed? Y'all claim things like speech and assembly and religion can be taken away. The right to defend yourself can be taken away. So which is it? Are all rights invented and subject to being removed then?
Yea, every right is made up and subject to being removed. it doesn't mean they should, infact, it means we have to work to protect them. They don't exist without government protecting them. If you meet a bear in the woods, he doesn't care about your rights, that's how you know they don't really exist.
Doesn't refute a word of FoxHastings said: ↑ Uh, it is the RIGHT who constantly tries to control women through abortions laws ....where TF have you been....has their attack on women's rights been INVISIBLE TO YOU?
I suppose you haven't ever met a bear in the woods before... But if you did, should you be able to defend yourself from it should it attack you?
Hmm. I suppose there were too many sentences and words there for you.. I'll keep it short. Abortion laws don't "control" women. Never have.
Do you have a right to bear arms if no other person was around to invent guns or provide you with one?
Your response is unresponsive, go figure... The right to bear arms doesn't limit itself to guns. Sorry if this information abuses your grasp, tentative as it is, of our reality...
Rights don't exist in nature. Sure, you could grab a stick and try to fight off the bear, but it would likely end in you realizing you had no right to life, liberty, or property.
