Being Australian its easy for me to suggest reform.

Since gun reform was implemented after our Tasmanian Port Authur massacre of 35 men women and children we havent had a massacre by gun over 4 persons. Suicide by guns has dropped also. I suppose no matter how clear the statistics the NRA will find justifications for their stance.

Is it worth talking about? Perhaps talking to the family and friends of the slain is a starting point?

You can try...but gun lovers will attack you mercilessly. Gun lovers are generally OBSESSED with gun ownership.

They hear even the slightest hint about gun ownership limitations and many will start foaming at the mouth.

It's easy to suggest reform; the tricky bit is getting the criminal fraternity to agree to take part in it, otherwise they'll have the upper hand against the law abiding demographic?

Reform to what? Euro trash style and millions upon millions of CCTV cameras tied in with thought police and speech laws? No thanks.

Gun control in America is none of your business just as gun control in Australia is none of my business

But since you mentioned that suicide by guns dropped, did suicides overall drop by the same amount?

Correct, suicides increased but that isnt conclusively due to limited girearms. There's no proff of that. Obviously some suicides would have been done with firearm if available. But, why are we selective? What about lack of mass murders? Arent you cherry picking.?

Why has this statement been ignored?

But I need a gun that can fire 20 rounds a minute and one that can shoot a target 500m away for self defence against a burglar in my house

    http://time.com/4172274/what-its-like-to-own-guns-in-a-country-with-strict-gun-control/

"One big difference is that in Australia, we think owning a gun is a privilege, and in America people think of it as a right."

Interesting read. How many American gun owners would willing turn in there guns for a buy bad a fair market value to be destroyed? Sure, some people would. Grandma would turn in that old .38 but I doubt this would do anything but further galvanize the situation.

One more thing, it reads that the buy back was paid for by taxing the healthcare system. That's what we need to do.

If you were in that Vegas hotel and the gunman aimed at you, you'd need a Leopard tank. Where does it end.

Ive tried this before, neither side seems willing to compromise. The pro-gun perspective is that we have too many restrictive laws already that dont do anything and/or are not being enforced.

So, what new laws do you propose, and which laws already in place would you be willing to get rid of?
