WASHINGTON (AP) — The chairman of the House Oversight Committee said Tuesday he is moving forward with holding FBI Director Chris Wray in contempt of Congress because the department has not turned over a bureau record that purports to relate to President Joe Biden and his family.

Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., criticized the federal law enforcement agency after he said his committee was told it would not gain access to an unclassified form that describes “an alleged criminal scheme” involving the president and a foreign national.

It is not a classified document so why is the Director treating it like it is? Wray has offered to allow Comer to read it in a secure area but it will probably be mostly redacted according to Comer. Comer says this is unacceptable from the FBI.

Now that the Republicans have subpoena power it's all of a sudden a BAD thing to defy one.

What happened while the Jan 6th committee was issuing them?

You must have been born yesterday or you might know something about Eric Holder’s contempt of congress charge.

The Trump nominated FBI director has offered to share the documents, so no he doesn’t.

Not to pooh pooh your story, but has Comer MOVED on this or IS MOVING? 2 different tenses used in the story.

Has Comer taken a specific action to make this happen, or is it normal MAGA bluster??

Can't imagine why a Republican appointee would keep a document from a MAGA Committee....

Or are you expecting the forum liberals to defend Chris Wray here??

In private. Sorry but Biden is running for president and the public has a right to see the document otherwise this looks like election interference. It’s not classified.

Supposedly, they have a whistleblower and they know the details of the document so *seeing" it isn't good enough for them. They want it public.

I don't see moved in the story. But, the long and short of it is that they have been asking for a while for this document. They told Wray they would hold him in contempt if he didn't turn it over by their new deadline. Then they got on a call the night before and Wray said he would allow Comer and minority leader Raskin to view the document. That's not good enough for Comer and he told Wray he needs to turn over the unclassified document or face contempt. The Committee has a constitutional right to that document.

Wray doesn’t have the right to conceal a potential crime.

Wray could be more afraid of “committing suicide” than facing contempt of congress.

Potential crime even Bill Barr didn’t see as credible?

Wray is the one who DETERMINES potential crimes.... and he doesn't see one here...

    Neither will you, one day...

    Ha Ha.... good one....

Comer has the power to bring contempt charges.... we'll see how far they go...

And for those brainiacs who are bringing up Bannon as a comparison, recall that he refused ALL cooperation.... Wray has invited Goober Comer to stop on by, but the last thing he wants is the document made public in any way to expose his lies...

When leaders like Eric Holder set the example by disrespecting congress then what do you expect?

Yeah, the Constitution is a good document. I'm glad you recognize that.

The form is also unclassified and from before Joe Biden was elected so executive privilege doesn't apply since its purpose is to protect the private conversations of a President so they can speak freely. Congress has oversight authority over it.
