I am Concerned

I am concerned that the people who are supporting CPAC and their preferred candidate will take serious steps toward ending democracy and punishing their opponants should they gain control of our government. Here are some words from the opening speech of the 2024 CPAC convention.

“Welcome to the end of democracy. We are here to overthrow it completely,” he said Thursday. “We didn’t get all the way there on Jan. 6, but we will endeavor to get rid of it.” …

"After we burn that swamp to the ground, we will establish the new American republic on its ashes, and our first order of business will be righteous retribution for those who betrayed America," he declared. “

Can someone ease my fears about losing our democracy and our Constitution.

 

America is unique and very resiliant. The system of checks and balances built into our constitution prevent losing our democracy. It is especially effective against propaganda as in that tossed about by the left.

 

We don't really have a democracy so there isn't really one to lose. If you will notice, both parties are rushing headlong to get candidates elected neither of which are wanted by the electorate. A huge majority of the public don't want either one of them as president. If we had a democracy the voters would get candidates they want.

I doubt Biden will make the ballot, however. He will be replaced near or at the convention without any involvement at all by the voters in my opinion. The same thing happened in the last presidential election when the DNC replaced the most popular candidate with the candidate of their choice. Don't get me wrong, our system isn't horrible but it isn't democracy. Offices are filled by conflict between two parties and internal conflicts within the parties. To a large extent they are filled by the money of the wealthy. They should be filled by voters choosing from a panoply of acceptable candidates as the concept of democracy dictates. At least it is better than dictatorship.

 

I'm sure the DNC have many dastardly tricks up their sleeves, don't worry fascism has no boundaries!!!

 

I guess the swamp creatures should have taken that possibility into account before using the justice system to go after political opponents.

I would love to ease your fears. But I can't. But everything appears to signal that that's the plan. They start by convincing their people that dictators like Putin or KJU are "normal", so they can "ease" us into a dictatorship.

The fact that they are now starting to say it publicly shouldn't be a surprise. MAGAs seem to have some difficulty keeping to themselves what they discuss in private.

What keeps me sane is recognizing the size of this group. They aren't enough to make a dent in the elections.

Republicans have stated that they are domestic terrorists, that they intend to destroy democracy and have unveiled project 2025 that shows how they will do it to applause of its base.

 

The Democrats are trying to put their rivals in prison. A lot like...um...Putin...lol

2) As for the Constitution, you live in a banana republic. Public officials routinely violate the Constitution, our social contract and the rule of law with impunity, and they get away with it because they aren't held accountable. If you want that to change, do something about it. The Constitution, our social contract and the rule of law can't defend themselves.

 

This is a lot like Saddam Hussein's concern about what the people would do if his administration was ever toppled.

That's the impression I get from the OP. Certainly, the vast majority of Demokrats are cool with it.

That is correct. However, there is a large number of very good people who have their head VERY FAR immersed into 24/7 RW propaganda, who have no problem going along with the agenda of these few extremists. A lot of them would be even willing to throw our democracy away, because they have been taught by RW media that Dems are the devil and that Trump is the ONLY one who can "fix it". It's the complacency against extremism that is really the problem.
