In all truth, Israel could (and should) have said nothing about this. It was very poor tactics. Why? Well, for one thing, the moment they point the finger at another and don't "look at the boulder in their eye", everyone else turns around and says to them "What about your racism and fostering of hate?". Which then becomes a thread like this in which they get roundly humiliated by their examples of real racism and hate. Another reason why it was on own goal? Because if they stopped to think for just one moment, they would realise that our entire political class are too weak and cowardly to make anything stick. Female genital mutilation has been illegal in the UK for years. Number of prosecutions? Nil. Why? In part it is because the authorities have been made retarded by "political correctness". France on the other hand are somewhat better in this area, having made over 100 prosecutions.

 

I agree that the law is not "fostering hate".
I also agree that religious law cannot be allowed to trump the secular law of the land.
I also agree that a dialogue should take place with both sides respecting the position of the other. I see no reason that a compromise cannot be struck in the interests of religious freedom.

I do disagree on the other hand that there is a nation where the law of the land is jewish law. While Israel respects jewish law where they deem it appropriate, it isn't remotely close to jewish law.


There are also only a few countries that actually have sharia as the law of the land. IIRC "Islamic law" is a hybrid consisting of english common law melded with some aspects of sharia. Naturally, those countries will respect religious tradition.
