Leftists are decrying free speech as a threat to democracy after Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced Thursday he offered to buy Twitter.

The Washington Post opinion columnist Max Boot tweeted he is “frightened by the impact on society and politics if Elon Musk acquires Twitter.”

“He seems to believe that on social media anything goes. For democracy to survive, we need more content moderation, not less,” Boot added.

MSNBC political analyst Anand Giridharadas compared Musk to an “invader” and criticized Musk’s promise to “unlock” Twitter’s potential.

Salon writer Matthew Rozsa said while he cares about freedom, he also cares about “factual precision” and said that Musk’s “attempted takeover of Twitter is a threat to the free world.”

The USA Singers, who describe themselves as musicians who “stand with Democracy,” suggested Twitter should tell Musk to “go **** himself, then delete his account.”

“That’s how you deal with an out of control narcissistic bully.”…

Liberals are the real threat to democracy. Anyone who would engage in content control and limit free speech as defined in the first amendment is an open and deliberate enemy of freedom and democracy. And they have the nerve to call a 1st amendment freedom a threat to democracy!

I’m proud to be seen by the secular progressive elites as an enemy of their “vision” of democracy.

The credibility of a social network comes from the fact that it can keep conspiracy theorists, trolls and extremists of all political stripes at bay.

Trump is an extremist and a conspiracy theorist, which is why his social network - Truth Social - attracts few people.

If Twitter were to end its ban, there would be a mass exodus of moderate users to another platform with better content management.

Once again, it's like an alternate world in liberal Lala land. Up is down and down is up.

Free speech is threatened by the idea of less moderation.

    Wait. What?

The decision to suspend Trump's Twitter account was purely business.

MAGA is free to believe that it was politically directed or a leftist plot.

If it had paid to let Trump spout his bs, he'd still be there.

Correction. The biggest threat to democracy and freedom are any perspectives that don't align with their own.

After defending social media and Twitter for years, the crying now is just comical.

Elon Musk believes that the value of Twitter will go up if more posts on the social platform go up, with or without any reputable standards. And by making it go private, taking away the SOX accounting requirements, he may be in a position to manipulate the books on its value when he decides to sell.

That right there shows what the New Liberals (leftists, "progressives") think of the 1st Amendment and Free Speech in general.

I understand what Elon Musk said. Elon Musk is not doing this for pure altruist reasons here. He never has. He is doing this to make money. And to make money on social media platforms, you need to have as many posts as possible. That would increase the penny-cent advertisements the social media platforms can charge, which is the revenue that would sustain the profitability of said platform. Right now, Twitter is publicly traded. Elon Musk has said he would make Twitter go private. By going private, would eliminate the accounting requirements under SOX, Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

Is there a single leftist here who has decided to jump ship? How blind could your support be?

Evidently, the boisterous left considers everyone else to be imbeciles who they must protect from differing opinions and freewheeling discussion – at all costs yet. And oh boy! Don’t they cry like babies when they don’t get their way?

The meanie that I am, I was going to suggest it smacks of delusions of grandeur and immaturity say something naughty, so I retracted it because I don’t think I am supposed to say it here.

I just responded to your post where YOU get to declare what the RNC thinks and here you are taking it upon yourself to declare what Musk thinks and the arguing your made up points.

When you want to discuss what THEY say let me know.

Ahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! Thank you for such a good laugh. With who they still allow to be on it, they did not gain any credibility.

And why would Twitter need to have credibility? Careful, you might make the argument for regulation from the government on them…. And that would be awful. I say make it more first amendment friendly.
