You have to remember....2012 saw guys like Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock appealing to rightwing religious voters on abortion saying things like..

"in a 'legitimate rape', the woman's body shuts down".....and "pregnancy from rape could be God's plan"

They don't seem to hold the same views on rape as most people.

You mean like those who are condescending and belittling in posts?
Or those who distort other posters replies?
That kind of against the teaching of christ?

But then later, God changed in mind and brought in jesus as the new covenant. Seemingly not knowing what the future was to bring.

I wonder why God created such a barbaric creature as ancient man. Could he not have created them like we are today. Civilized?

An alternative to making a woman marry her rapist? How about . . . um, not making a woman marry her rapist? That would be a good start. And, no, I don't accept any objection that includes, "But the culture at that time . . . " It shouldn't matter. The God of the OT was ALL ABOUT changing culture, and making his moral demands clear despite cultural influence. He commanded the Israelites to adopt moral practices that set them apart from the cultures that surrounded them. That's what the word "holy" means: set apart. There is no rationalization for demanding objective morality in one breath and caving to cultural relativism in the next.

It gets REAL tough for them....they have to CLAIM that "God is eternal, never changing, always loving and merciful".....

yet we see in the Old Testament clear evidence God was cool with misogyny, slavery, etc. and even ordered genocide and infanticide......

so then they try "Everything changed after Jesus, none of that OT stuff counts anymore"...

which contradicts their original claim that God was "eternal, never changing".

And naturaly when you point out these obvious contradictions, in their "loving and humble" Christian way.....they call you stupid for noticing them and not overlooking them as they do.

That's another point. How many times do they look to the Old Testatment to declare homosexuality an abomination.....but then say "Oh, but I don't support killing gays"....which IS the called-for punishment for homosexuality in the Old Testament.

You ask "Why not?" and they say "Because we can't kill people for being gay...in those days it was acceptable" And yet they want us to accept the part where it's okay to declare homosexuality an abomination. Why?....because the other part doesn't "sell" politically or in their evangelism.

the old testament is a treatment to the old…lol..
Jesus christ is the New Testament for it is New…

no where did Jesus Christ say anything homophobic.
it even got through the censorship crowd that defiled the original.

Oh I can top that! How about "thou shalt not lie with a man" but a Priest ass raping an underage boy is apparently not only not a sin, but the same people.....THE VERY SAME PEOPLE that don't agree with homosexuality actively participated in the cover up of the homosexual rape of children. Hmmm that bible sure stopped getting quoted in those cases eh? Nothing to see here move along. Just a little ass rape of a minor, a few thousand times.....not enough for anyone to notice. Why was this covered up?
    Devils advocate answer:
Technically the bible said nothing about laying with alter boys, just another man. Therefore the priests committed no crime against their faith and is why we Catholics covered the whole mess up and will continue to do so.

What a babbling post. Do you even know what you are typing?

The only thing that bothers me about your posts is the depth of incoherence.

Blah, blah....I wonder why fox hastings refuses to answer this question? It would be nice if someone could give an answer that made sense.

Please take a look at the quote you just responded to. It provides a much better alternative that I have posted in more than one thread and have yet to hear a response to.

Either explain exactly why the answer doesn't make sense or quit pretending that no reasonable alternative has been offered.

The law in Deut. offers no benefit that could not otherwise be offered by a law that protected the victim, and a God that demands monotheism from previously polytheistic tribesman can demand basic human dignity from tribesman that had previously treated women as objects. The God of the Bible does not offer the petty "but that was the culture at the time" excuse that his followers now offer. He explicitly states in the NT that he gave his OT followers laws that the knew they could not follow. Please stop using cultural relativism as a an excuse for a religion that supposedly preaches moral objectivism.

Not to be mean, but the only objections we have gotten to our objections so far have been:

    1) "Blah, blah" (actual quote)

    and

    2) The belief that God's laws are based more on contemporary culture than on actual morality. This "explanation" does not meld well with the way God is portrayed elsewhere in the Bible, or with basic logic. As I've said on another thread that has yet to address my arguments:

The Bible did not mention any exact date base on modern mathematical definition as to how old the earth is the age of the earth has been calculated and estimated by men base on what they think and formulated base on modern math both Christian and none Christian scientist estimate the earth to be billion of years old.

There will always be different views just like you have yours as to the origin of life and the universe which THEORY do you agree more Darwinian, Steven Hawkins, Christian scientist the Big Bang theory, God-particle etc. etc.?

We Christians all agree in one thing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God everything else such as the age of the universe or this earth or the origin of life are all sciences that deals in learning and discovering the creative power of God the process behind creation and origin that is why we endeavor in science because science is another pathway to understand God.

Yes indeed God is truly merciful for He save the weak and the helpless when no man would dare lift a hand to help. And God love us all so much including those who hate Him with shear hatred that He gave up His own Son to save us all."Father forgive them for they do not know what they do" "Today you will be with me in Paradise"

    St. Matthew
Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 3)
Blessed are the meek: for they shall possess the land. (Verse 4)
Blessed are they who mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Verse 5)
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill. (Verse 6)
Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. (Verse 7)
Blessed are the clean of heart: for they shall see God. (Verse 8
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. (Verse 9)
Blessed are they that suffer persecution for justice' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Verse 10)

In the OT it show just how brutal, savage and barbaric the world was and how God step in to bring sanity to this world many wicked tribes and warlords tried to destroy God's chosen messenger the Hebrews the Hebrews God could have chose the mighty Egyptians, Babylonians, Persians or Romans but He did not God chose the weak Hebrews to give the good people a fighting chance against wickedness and evil and part of the struggle are wars JUST WARS. And while you praise slavery, genocide and infanticide God taught us to chose life and freedom.

Events in the OT has come and gone humanity has learn to fight for good and Jesus Christ the Son of God came to bring the good news but He was rejected because wickedness run deep in many humans. The NT is the continuation of the OT.

The only contradiction is your claim you understand the Bible and yet you don't.
God is never changing and eternal because there is only One God.

Contradiction that were pointed out were proven to be cherry picked verses attempts to distort the true gospel then they try to use science that only expose more contradiction and deception and when those deception were exposed these anti Christians people start to demand that we as true Christians must not or not allowed to respond or share the truth that what we are doing is hurtful to them well, truth can be painful and hard to shallow we have notice that already that is why the only way to shut down truth as we Christian are not afraid to share...in the old days they will crucify us, feed us to wild beast, torture in fact it still happening in the 19th, 20th century Christians are still being persecuted for refusing to give up Christ.

The Cristero War (1926–29) also known as La Cristiada, was an attempted counter-revolution against the anti-clericalism of the ruling Mexican government. Based in western Mexico, the rebellion was set off by the enforcement of the Mexican Constitution of 1917 by Mexican President Plutarco Elías Calles, in order to hinder the influence of the Roman Catholic Church and its sub-organizations.

This is a summation of Chapter 12 in the Book of Revelation, the Apostle John sees the imminent apostasy of the Church—He also sees the War in Heaven in the beginning when Satan was cast out—He sees the continuation of that war on earth.

The verse below, the Apostle John is describing the War in Heaven that took place in the beginning which was before the serpent (devil) deceived Eve in the Garden of Eden.

"And there was war in heaven, Michael and his angels waging war with the dragon. The dragon and his angels waged war, and they were not strong enough, and there was no longer a place found for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him."---Revelation 12:7-9 NASB

And so as I have said in a previous post, "The Revelation to John is often mistakenly believed to be exclusively concerned with end-times prophecy, but according to the original instructions given to John, it was about things already known, as well as, things to come."

How many other ethnocentric religious fables had wars in heavens between the big god and his former minions? Didn't the Greeks have that tale as well?

Where did you say you weren't an atheist? Where have you said you were something other than an atheist?

Maybe I missed when you clearly defined what your beliefs are. I know you were once a Catholic. And when you were a child you were traumatized by your Catholic priests for spanking you for they believed you lied to them as the reason for the spanking.

You claimed for a whole week, (7 days/ 168 hours) you didn't do anything wrong, no sins committed. Maybe you honestly forgot that you did something wrong...isn't that plausible for a young child to forget?

It appears you are ignorant of the histories of these countries. Japan, India like many other countries have had a brutal bloody sinful past that is really not something you want to be proud of let alone brag about. Oh and btw these countries are predominantly atheists.

So you see immorality effects everyone regardless of belief systems. No matter where people come from, no matter what one's beliefs are, we are all sinners in need of a Savior.

So it's foolish to make a generalized statement citing a particular people/country being more respectful and moral than another.

    Actually, no.

Japan was a fairly brutal nation when they WERENT atheists. Now that they are, they would easily be the most civilised on the planet. The combination of reason and ethics, on top of the cultural preference for gentle dignification of ones fellows, is a a powerful thing.

They were always primarily an atheist nation since they are primarily Buddhists. They have a very long history of Buddhism.

Buddhism in Japan has been practiced since at least 552, though some Chinese sources place the first spreading of the religion earlier during the Kofun period 250 to 538. Buddhism has had a major influence on the culture and development of Japan over the centuries.

During World War II, almost all Buddhists temples strongly supported Japan's militarization.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddhism_in_Japan

So your statement, "Japan was a fairly brutal nation when they WERENT atheists." is invalid, therefore It is a false statement.

Thread: Part 12 of Post Your Tough Questions Regarding Christianity

Why should anyone take your opinions on Christianity as useful or valid interpretation?

Also....is it not true, that there are as many versions of Christianity as there are Christians?

Yes I have repeatedly stated I am not an atheist. We have even argued over which version of god is true. You told me repeatedly my version was not correct. As a fact you forgot..I did not but you dont see the flaw in your comment that I somehow forgot I sinned. Newsflash....not everyone spends their week lying or ass raping other children. You could always god if I lied. in fact go ahead then come back and let is know what he said...then I can see if you will sin. Typical religious person...you must have done something wrong I can punish you for! Also Mitt an atheist believes there is no god. You believe all other versions of god are incorrect. You are more of an atheist I am.x

For someone blabbing about the bible being actual history. You sure seem to have no answers about dates given from the bible. Maybe it's not a history book as you claim.
How can a book designed to be mans guide to life have so many different views on basic questions?
So you all believe one thing, but can't agree on anything else. But because of this one thing, the rest of the book is golden.
So, can you all agree on how to achieve eternal paradise?
    Works?
    Faith?
    Works and Faith?
If each christian here could answer.
My answer from the teachings of my church. Faith and faith alone.

No it's not. Every country has a past they may not be so proud of. Afterall, the USA shed much blood of natives when we took over the country.
But today, in Japan, they are some of the most respectful people on earth.
Sorry if you don't like it.
