The 1918 Spanish flue I seem to remember also killed people of that age the most. As to age, Italy is saying that the mean age at which people are serious/critical there is 65 and he went on to say - that means half of the people who are serious/critical are under 65

I don't know about zinc, but you know who's really laughing at us right now? Mexico. I'm sure this is bouncing around their country too, but for the moment, they can laugh their asses off at the clueless Americans. We have given them endless **** over the years about how they can't even run their own country.

Don't call it the Spanish Flu.

    That is now racist.

And no, it doesn't mean "half of the people who are critical are under 65".

The death rate for those under 50 is less than 0.2%.

The spanish flu killed every age and health group. A big, strong and healthy man started to show symptoms at 16:00 and was dead and getting burried by 10:00 the next day at the peak of the disease. But you've to keep in mind the limited ressources and medical facilities in 1918.

It's real. I would put the video in but my computer is playing up. If you check out how countries are doing all of the asian countries which looked like they were taking off are now way down the list and seem to have things under control. Where it is taking off is in Europe - and for the US but that is being kept quiet. Europe and the US have not worked on containment which means they are likely to have too many serious/critical cases at the same time which means their hospitals will not be able to cope which is what is happening to Italy now....but Sout Korea and China used this medication which is actually an antimalaria one. The other country which at the moment is doing really well is Germany. About one and a half thousand infections and only 3 deaths. That said as things are going it looks like the West are going to be the people who pay the most for this virus.
    I'm from Scotland ;)

It did but I remember hearing it killed the most young adults. There was a reason but I cannot remember it. This one also is weird in not seeming to harm the very young. Italy said it had only had 4 infants with symptoms under 6 weeks and none of them got it badly - usually they would be one of the first to go.

I just don't even know what you are susggesting here.

First of all, the experts state that comparing this to flu is total BS.

Second of all, if there are any dying, that is a problem that needs to be addressed. And, given the projected growth rate given inaction, there just isn't any question about that.

We don't have endless supplies of medical service. It can be overloaded.

Let's just work on saving some lives here, by doing what experts in contagious disease are presenting.

It caused a cytokine storm in young people's lungs. From what I remember of the book I read, their own immune systems killed them. They went into overdrive and it killed them.

China is taking measures that we would probably not enact.

They are arresting anyone who goes out of their residence without a written reason, and the penalty is a few months jail time. And, those are official documents, allowing one person to leave at a time, for a specific necessary destination - like the market.

Does that decrease the method of transmission - you bet.

Here, we ask people to work at home. However, wage earners in the service industries, etc., work when they are sick, because they can't afford missing paychecks.

Angela Merkel in Germany says that with no immunity and no therapy (where we are today), 60% to 70% of the population of Germany will have been infected.

Sorry to butt in but this hysteria is getting to me. They call it Covid19 because it's the 19th corona virus. The common cold is caused by one of the corona viri. It's just the common cold virus on steroids. The human race will survive this and thanks to Elon Musk colonize Mars one day. I'm not saying you shouldn't take precautions but don't let the media trick you into thinking you need to go out and buy toilet paper by the case. Hell of a good time to be investing in the stock market though.

We need to get Greta and AOC to spearhead a task force on this issue.

You can look up Trump and Jay Inslee, our governor.

You can also read Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) who has issues strong criticism of this administration for preparedness - especially Trump's budget direction to cut the CDC.

...lest you think this is partisan.

Trump irrationally downplayed the seriousness of COVID19, claiming he had a natural ability to handle outbreaks - counter to sound and available science from CDC and others.

He claimed that anyone who needed a test could get a test - at a time when NO working tests were available. He praised test delivery when the delivered tests did not work.

In general, Trump did not expedite moves by medical corporations to switch flu testing toward COVID19 (by allowing legal exceptions concerning patient information).

Then, he called our governor names for reporting truth instead of what Trump said!!!

Are we talking about the same Trump that has been telling leftists we can't rely on China and we should move our manufacturing back to the US?

90% of our drugs are produced in China and India.

    Leftist response? Orange Man Stupid!

The projection from the rogan guest today is saying around half a mil.

He has also been advising people in this admin.

He said this virus will be 10 to 15 times worse than the flu.

Not even comparable to the flu.

Yeah me too even when I am in the target group .

My main concern involves shortages of stuff from china and India like meds that millions have to have to stay alive .How great and how long will the interruption of the supply chain endure ?

Btw a corona type virus that disrupts world supply chains was predicted by the rogan guest in a book from several years ago . This family of viruses is not the flu virus but will remain a constant risk as others appear to infect humans.

If this virus detective is correct this one will be 10 times worse than the flu. Old people should be concerned and limit contact with others . When your community gets it try to become a hermit as much as you can.

No need to shake your boots but use some common sense

If this turns out to be no worse than the flu perhaps our govt which is behind the ball will prepare for the next one. Like they were buying ammo for our other defense of citizens.

-There is nothing that is BS in comparing this to the flu. They have nearly identical symptoms. It poses a grave danger to a nearly identical immuno and pulmonary compromised population. It kills those same people in a nearly identical fashion. It has a nearly identical means of transmission, and it being directly related to the SARS virus in addition to numerous strains of cold, it is reasonable to assume that it will follow a nearly identical active season.

-Of course medical facilities can be overloaded, but nothing in this diseases history in other countries suggest that it is going to "overload" our vast medical system. A couple of panic inducing viral letters from someone purporting themselves to be a medical worker in Italy notwithstanding.

It killed the most young adult mainly because the young adult soldiers returning from the european theater of war were the first and hardest hit by it being packed in ships, trains and barracks.

It looks about the same to me.

For instance, a typical seasonal flu strain has an R0 of around 1.2, which means for every five infected people, the disease will spread to six new people on average, who pass it along to others.

As of February 19, 2020, estimates placed R0 above 1.4 but below 4, well within the range for other coronaviruses like SARS.

    Vs.

    1.3 and 2.2

Are you saying COVID 19 is worse because of the range?
