I rest my case. We express our 'not real thrilled about it' herein. more importantly, there are enough nasties in Christianity and the bible to add up to at least one sacrificed kitty.

Not in my house. My wife likes cats.

If you want to express your "not real thrilled about it" herein, knock yourself out. But let's not demagogue those who believe in a God and practice a religion. I realize it's a free country and you have every right to speak your piece. But it ain't right to trash somebody else for what they believe, especially when there's no real proof one way or the other who's right and who isn't. Like to know why 'live and let live' is so hard for you guys tho.

I'm not so big on trashing the believer, unless they're patently insane or objectionable (a couple here meet these criteria, in spades), but I'm very big on shining a bit of midday sun onto bizarre superstitions. mockery is long overdue, so consider us the 'catch up crew'.

In the meantime, in answer to your question of why it's 'so hard' for us to live and let live, the answer is because up until about 6 minutes ago, figuratively speaking, we'd have been killed for not believing in a precisely described, Invisible Sky Dwelling Supernatural Being. And that's just the recent and very ugly history. There's also the double standards imposed upon many of us (especially in once Christian western nations), the arrogant assumption of primacy, the refusal to allow open discussion of the faith, the insistence on telling small children that if they don't believe in an Invisible Overlord, they'll be tortured for eternity, the obscene obsessions with sex, the bigotry, the falsehoods told, etc etc etc etc ad nauseum. These are just some of the reasons.

You didn't really answer the question. Why do you give a damn what somebody else believes? So what if other people believe any of that stuff is true? Isn't that their prerogative, freedom of religion and all that? As long as they ain't doing something illegal like sacrificing little kitties, why can't you leave 'em be?

I think most atheists respect a person's right to believe whatever they wish, but that respect does not extend to their dogma, nor any attempt to impose some aspect of it on others who do not share said dogma.

I for one get particularly irritatted when people insist the earth is 6,000 years old, there was a global flood with all the animals getting saved, that dinosaurs and humans were contemporary, that some guy lived in the stomach of a whale for a couple weeks, etc. etc. etc. If they would keep that stuff to themselves and not for instance attempt to get it taught in public school, I wouldn't care at all.

I answered the question. But to break it down further, most us dont care what people believe if what you believe has no impact on the broader community. I listed above just some of the many ways in which christianity DOES impact the broader community. The fact that you're apparently unaware of these many imposts is testament to the arrogance your faith appears to promote.

Truth be told, I do not know what is taught in schools these days. And to be honest I'm too old to even remember what was taught when I was in school so long ago. I am fairly certain however, that most kids find out at some point what science has to say about evolution and the age of the planet and so on. And I highly doubt schools teach anything about Jonah in the belly of the whale or Noah and his ark. IOW, you are making a mountain out of a molehill. I don't mind if children are introduced to the concept of creationism and what the debate is all about. But are they actually being told creationism is really how we came to be? Don't think so, but even if they are it's no big deal. Kids are gonna find out it's a load of crap; if a few still believe in it then it's probable that they were heavily indoctrinated at home.

All of which leads to this: let it go. None of what you guys are saying entitles you to bash people for what they believe in. It's really none of your business.

You dont mean that. You really dont. How can beliefs be exempt from criticism? Do you think the belief that grown men and young boys are naturally suited romantically and sexually? No? Well some folk do believe that. Some believe killing kitties will gain them favour. Some believe that if they have sex the right way they'll become immortal. Are any of these beliefs worthy of our deference? Or should they be given the contempt they're due?

First of all, I don't know how we limited the discussion of religion to Christianity. Secondly, I am not a Christian myself but I do not accept that anything you listed impacts the broader community today. But mostly I fail to see how or why the beliefs and practices of any religion should be a reason for you or anyone else to give a damn or do anything about it, assuming no laws are broken. All of those things you cited might be reasons to abhor a specific religion and decide not to become a follower; but none of them are valid reasons for you to refuse to allow them to believe whatever they want or to respect their decision in that regard.

You don't have to defer to anything, you just have to leave 'em be. Again, if what they're doing is legal then it's really none of your business. As for contempt, I'm not big on judging others and do not condone it. And the homosexual thing, that's against the law if one of 'em is a minor. Some religions say it's an abomination, others don't. I DON'T CARE. What two or more people do behind closed doors is none of my business or yours, if it's legal.

And it's good you don't care but christians don't feel as you do. In their enormous arrogance and sinful (for them) pride they insist that christianity is the ONLY way. They insist their rules and "morals" should apply to everybody, they try to impose their belief in god on others with prayer in school and religious displays on PUBLIC property..and making laws based on thier "morals".. Some insist this is a "christian" nation. And their level of hate for anyone who isn't them is mind boggling and THEY feel free to bad mouth others quite freely...

If others don't fight back they will get their way ...and historically their way is convert or die...

I would love to let 'em be...let 'em be decent people who MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS but they aren't and they don't...

I guess you missed the Texas Text Book nonsense, the ridiculous law suits, the various private members bills, the banning of "unchristian" books in some jurisdictions. Granted they revolve mostly around creationism and young earth nonsense.

As I said I don't care what people wish to believe wrt religion as long as they do not attempt to impose those beliefs on me or anyone else they do not have legal guardianship over.

"the only way" to what? I don't recall any christian saying that Christianity is the only way without further specifying what it is the 'way' to. Obviously Christianity is not the way to the local whore house or the local opium den or the sleazy smoke filled tavern. You should be more specific with your manner of describing things.

Oh, are you confused by what christians call the "only way"...let's call it the "only way" to be good people, the "only way" to find god/heaven ...the "only way" to think, the "only way" to feel...

And gosh, ya just ignored the rest of my post which ALSO descibes their "way" :

They insist their rules and "morals" should apply to everybody, they try to impose their belief in god on others with prayer in school and religious displays on PUBLIC property..and making laws based on thier "morals".. Some insist this is a "christian" nation. And their level of hate for anyone who isn't them is mind boggling and THEY feel free to bad mouth others quite freely...

    Truth IS the only way.

Societies form under rules that organize them, called Institutions.

The Institution of Matrimony was formed to control the sexual behaviors of young people so that Fatherless does not arise to abuse both the Tax payers and the children born as bastards.

You are on the side of those who want sexually promiscuity to reign over the Institution of Matrimony and hence insist we all shut up and let you change America.

My experience has shown you are NOT open to rational conversation about the Child Abuse and untenable Welfare costs when the Institution of Matrimony is ignored and/or altered to avoid it rules.

I think you have overstated the case against Christians. "Level of hate"? "Bad mouth others (non-believers)"? I don't think so. Maybe your experiences differ from mine.

Gays take personally the opposition to promoting their Life Style of sexual promiscuity.

    It isn't "personal."
Its just Christians believe sexual promiscuity creates expense Welfare and immense Chid Abuse of the bastards that are born illegitimately, plus it requires Abortions.

Saying these things are what the Gays want to stop.

Once again, you goofed in stating that "christians" would "call it" "the only way to feel" and "the only way to think". It seems that you have a strong propensity toward placing inaccurate labels on a group of people in which you cannot justify such a statement. As a Christian, I find myself thinking and feeling in ways that are not taught as a part of Christian teachings.

No, all ya have to do is read this forum....many many threads on how evil atheists are , how anyone who isn't them are "bad"...many examples of christians trying to shove their " morals" down other's throats especially in the Abortion forum...

I am aware of those who are intolerant of non-believers, especially on the hot button issues like abortion and homosexuality. Which BTW seems to extend to both sides on those and other issues. However, I am not sure that anyone else's intolerance can or should be used as an excuse for your own.

It appears that the anti-religion sentiments expressed here in this thread are directed mostly at Christianity; I don't see much in the way of anti-Semitism here, or anti-Islam, or anti-Buddhist, or anti any other religion. So, are you guys anti-religion or just anti-Christian? Gives me pause for thought if that is the case for some, singling out one religion over the rest oughta require everyone to give it a 2nd thought. Are we not getting close to a discriminatory practice here?

If you can't/won't read the threads in here I can't make you ...seems you found something to whine about and can't stop even with proof to the contrary....if ya want a love fest you won't find it here and why should you?

Oh, and your , ""However, I am not sure that anyone else's intolerance can or should be used as an excuse for your own.""

THAT works both ways , too... and it's the CHRISTIANS who proclaim themselves so self-righteous and good so maybe these HOLY people should set the example, LIVE their words that they seem to feel everybody else should live by ...and let us wild evil heathens alone....

I am NOT attempting to force you or anyone else into believing in the existence of such Paranormal Human capabilities and as I have posted MYSELF these programs as far as the World Media is concerned have been CLOSED and SHUT DOWN as this is what both the U.S. and Russian Governments have announced to the media and public and the only reason that basically only the U.S. and Soviet Union/Russia announced such a thing is because these were the only two nations that were spending such massive amounts of money upon these Paranormal Military Projects that this spending was too large to be hidden after the Freedom of Information Act was in force and as well what better way to direct the public's attention somewhere else than to announce these type of programs were no longer in existence.

Because of what I do and what I have been DIRECTLY TOLD....these Military and Intelligence Agency Programs.....NEVER STOPPED!!!

Now a member can believe what they want as it is true I have no evidence I could produce to prove this statement without ending up being thrown into a Military Prison and being forced to perform HARD LABOR for the rest of my life.....but never the less what I state is a fact.

Members will just have to decide for themselves and look at my posting history and the multiple occasions where I have made statements about an at the time current issue and situation and said within a few months....this and that and these people will be held accountable and that person will be responsible...etc.

As what happened to another member here...Snake.....when a similar type of posts upon another issue that Snake called me on and stated that I was just posting BULL S#!% and that what I said would NEVER happen.

I told Snake to wait at least 2 months as I figured by then the facts would come out and I told Snake to wait that approx. amount of time and THEN we would talk....which of course Snake simply laughed and ridiculed me for saying that.

I really don't blame Snake and I hold no grudge against him as he simply did not know the reality about the issue we were debating and after all how could he or anyone else?

About 2 months later the facts came out in the media for all to see and read and what those facts reported by the media WHERE EXACTLY WHAT I HAD CLAIMED EXISTED AND WOULD HAPPEN AND POSTED ABOUT ON THIS FORUM.....and I informed Snake of this reality.

So...it really doesn't matter to me whether or not you believe what I am posting as far as this issue and this particular topic will certainly take much more time for the general public to know and learn than the issues I and Snake were disagreeing about and the facts and reality for this topic and issue are MUCH more held a secret.

But for the members reading this....years later when the facts and realities are made public....REMEMBER IT WAS ME....who told you that this issue was very...VERY much a reality.
