Well, I dont usually join in with tit-for-tat, but your little digs as in trying to demean the OP and subsequent follow ups are really the stuff of little kids...as in "I know you are but what am I".... better quit while you are 'behind!' Saving 'some' face is better than having no face...

It's my opinion that many of them feel they have been used for political reasons and that the necessity of their service never existed. The horror they experienced was in vain, and the pain of that is unbearable. Iraq was unnecessary and Afghanistan is changing nothing. When we send our boys, there needs to be a completely uncontroversial and unavoidable reason, thoroughly compelling, to risk their lives.
We haven't had one since 1941.

Dude, you're the OP. Are you starting to refer to yourself in the third person narrative?

There is some truth in that just as there was during Viet Nam...but b4 WW II, the movies showed news reels of the Japanese bayoneting Chinese babies b4 Pearl Harbor, and so American soldiers were ready and felt justified in fighting that war!

What becomes justifications of a 'just war?!" Were Saddam and his brutal regime or the brutal Taliban worthy of opposing?! That line is hard to hold if ppl are a moral and justice orientated nation...post-game QB'ing is so easy!

If you're house is under attack, shud 'we' sit and access the circumstance b4 helping YOU?!

As I said OD, if you have served in our nations military, thank you for your service. I'm sure any medals you have are well deserved.

Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction. Saddam actually did an ok job of keeping his country together. There never was any Al- Qaeda there. The ironic truth is that while he was in power, Iraq was a safer place for Christians. One of his top ministers was a Meronite Catholic.

It don't. Some feel that they can only justify their existence by force feeding their myths and fairy tales down some elses throat. These things are going to happen weather we have a Sky Daddy or not! It's human nature! We are not mean't to get along!

Where we as Americans have missed it is in the philosophy of 'nation building." We think all ppl are like us, wanting individual freedom. But those of Islam want Sharia law or a lack of freedom! Setting ppl free sounds like a noble goal. But that is the biggest mistake of the W admin! Nation building is not possible with an Islamic state particularly one in civil war as between 2 religious groups! And so Iraq was lost not due to military victory but due to religious fundamentalists...we shud have learned and pulled out of any other Islamic countries thereafter!

There are terrible people all over the globe. Are we obligated to oppose them all? Where would it stop?
Currently the answer is it never stops, and it is killing us.
We waited 2 years after we already knew that Hitler was exterminating the Jews before we entered WWII.
We haven't been under attack by a country for many, many years.

We stood back in WW I and WW II until we were directly attacked (altho our cargo ships to Britain were under constant attack). Is your measure of threat NIMBY for you to act?! We are global like it or not..and we have obligations. How about I void your little piece of real estate out of our defenses and wait til it spills over to another piece of real estate? Peacenik's like you are oh so holy until it becomes your fight! There is no nobility in your argument...do you see how hypocritical you sound in your defense?!

Let me ask YOU Bruce, when do YOU make a physical defense for your property and loved ones? What does it take to get you in that defensive posture?

And we were talking nicely there for a minute.
I make physical defense when I am under attack.

The isolationists have never been right (see WWI and WWII) , but it works on paper, huh? Next time you need some aid, dont call 9-1-1..as they have no 'stake' in your problems..they're YOUR problems so dont bother anybody with them..

[looks like you got offended AGAIN...what does scripture say about Love & being easily offended?]

I'm not offended. I'm disappointed. We were having a conversation and you descended to name calling and childishness. What do the Fruits of the Spirit say about that? You're better than that.
I will not call the police when I am not under attack.
    Should I?

So, do you have no respect for the Bush administration that sent the military in under false pretenses? And I noticed you didn't actually have any kind of argument against his points about the invasion. We don't have to be in the military to know that the reasons for the invasion were lies or that we ended up doing more harm than good.

And what about 'our' friends that need help? I'm not talking about Libya or Syria (God help us if we go in there! Equipping our future enemy there is bad enuf as it is).

Do you have any friends? Are you available to help them? I'm not sure with your attitude that I could trust in your 'faithfulness'; to help me if I needed it. And btw, what is 'faithfulness?' A passive word or an active one? Is Christianity being a passive door mat to you?
