Another disturbing finding: All in all, 87% of the meat tested contained some sort of fecal contamination, either normal or antibiotic-resistant.

    :eyepopping:

    87% has fecal contamination!!!

    87% !!!!

and your TV screens are non stop Taliban and Hamas!!!

you are eating 87% dirty meat and you are worried about Kim Jung Un and Najadi?:confusion:

don't you think you should be focusing on what is happening in your own supermarkets than what Kim has in his?

I just turned on the TV. There's a discussion of the legacy of Thatcher going on right now. So, empirical evidence says otherwise.

Believe it or not, we can focus on more than one thing.

By the same token, don't you think you should be focusing on what is happening in your own crazy country instead of what is reportedly happening in our supermarkets? You've got more than enough problems to occupy your attention...

Decrease your intake of red meat and factory-farm produced poultry. Not only wil you be healthier overall but you will be speaking with your dollars against harmful practices.

Anyone honest will tell you that the US have next to no real quality control, when it comes to what goes in their food. And I can only see that getting worse. Since people only tend to react to a thing if they can see instant damage, for example, people do not quit smoking, as the damage is slow and very gradual most times, it will likely be years from now that the full impact is felt, of the profit gone mad food industry. And now you can add GM food to that equation. It is a bit (but not a lot) better here. There was the recent scandal over the horsemeat, and when there is one thing there is likely more.

It is getting to the stage where it would probably be healthier to eat roadkill.

Honest? More like ignorant hyperbole, Jack.

    Case in point. :above:

This might come as a shock to those of you who live thousands of miles away and really don't know their asses from their elbows when it comes to the U.S., but not only do we have food inspectors in this country, we have choices on what food we wish to purchase and consume. Furthermore, many of us have the means to put some or much of our own food on the table. The claim that Americans have no real quality control over their food is ignorant nonsense.

Watch out for those tainted bean sprouts! :omg:

Getting back to our food quality control, I'm middle aged and I've only gotten food poisoning once in my entire life. Unfortunately, a lot of people in a lot of countries can't make that claim...

Indeed I remember it. However it was Abu's in red about the fecal contamination that put me off. As you probably know we in Europe have been having trouble with horse meat being put into beef products. Food is one area where we can't allow greedy people to get away with criminal activity, lack of hygiene etc. Hopefully it will get sorted out. Edwina Curry put our egg famers out of business twenty or thirty years ago by being honest about the amount of E.coli in them. No one eats soft boiled eggs any more.
Glad to hear it. I don't think I ever have.

    No it's not.

There was even a massive battle of late for the right to know if your food was modified or not.

And did your President not just bend right over for Monsanto?

You trust in the both of them..?

You think they care if they take risks, or ignore other data, as long as they, and their high up's can make $$$? Rest assured, they themselves likely do not eat this trash.

You do know that people have been buying beef here, only to find that there is an international scam, going on for no one knows how long, that has led to children eating horsemeat at school? People also paying for one thing and getting another is called fraud. Had that been an individual butcher doing that, Elf + Safety would have shut him down, but no, since it was the supermarket giants, what happens? Nothing much as far as I can see.

From a link to a link in the OP....

The government published the findings in February, but they received scant attention until the Environmental Work Group issued its report, “Superbugs Invade American Supermarkets,” which was partly underwritten by Applegate, which sells organic and antibiotic-free “natural” meats.

Hmmm....Yeah that's an unbiased report...LOL Ha Ha Ha Ha More liberal 'truth' from their media echo-chamber.

Amazing isn't it that hardly anyone is getting sick from this meat? Other than your blatant anti-Semitism, we don't really know much about you. But here's a clue, your meat is no cleaner than ours. It is very difficult to slaughter an animal, especially a chicken without getting some bacteria on the meat.

How you done the research into it then, have you?

Never ceases to amaze me how, even in instances in which for profit, or bad practice, that old Stockholm syndrome kicks in for some, and they feel a need to robustly defend those that would happily give them cancer in the future,.

The lack of reports of widespread food poisoning in this country is sufficient to substantiate richstacy's observation. Unlike yourself, she lives in this country and can speak to this matter based on first-hand experience. All you can do is parrot what you people tell you, regardless of whether it's true or false.

Supermarkets basically are the only places we have to buy meat, these giant corporations almost wipe out all mom&pop shop and little butcher shop in anywhere in America.
where can I get safety meat ? Become a vegetarian probably is the only way.

Yes they fall for the typical lefty propaganda where fake stories are published then picked up by the liberal mainstream media and repeated until it becomes lefty 'truth.' The OP is a great example of this. When one drills down and finds the source it proves to be nothing more than a biased review of a pretty obscure barely noteworthy government report. These are the same folks who watch Hollywood movies and believe they are privy what Americans believe.

Looks like Abu was'nt far off the mark, heres another perhaps -predictably - toned down admission from another source - ehr Fox News ? How many americans would doubt + dare question "Fuks News ?
    : (wink)

A study by the Translational Genomics Research Institute, found that Staphylococcus aureus – a bacteria that causes most staph infections including skin infections, pneumonia and blood poisoning – are present in meat and poultry from U.S. grocery stores at “unexpectedly high rates.”

Researchers found nearly half of the meat and poultry samples — 47 percent — were contaminated with S. aureus, and more than half of those bacteria — 52 percent — were resistant to at least three classes of antibiotics.

For the study, researchers looked at 136 samples involving 80 brands of beef, chicken, pork and turkey from 26 grocery stores in five cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Flagstaff and Washington, D.C.

"For the first time, we know how much of our meat and poultry is contaminated with antibiotic-resistant Staph, and it is substantial," Dr. Lance B. Price, senior author of the study and Director of TGen's Center for Food Microbiology and Environmental Health, said in a news release. "The fact that drug-resistant S. aureus was so prevalent, and likely came from the food animals themselves, is troubling, and demands attention to how antibiotics are used in food-animal production today.”

According to the findings published in the journal Clinical Infectious Disease, “industrial farms, where food animals are steadily fed low doses of antibiotics, “are ideal breeding grounds for drug-resistant bacteria that move from animals to humans.”

"Antibiotics are the most important drugs that we have to treat Staph infections; but when Staph are resistant to three, four, five or even nine different antibiotics — like we saw in this study — that leaves physicians few options," Price said.

Experts say although Staph can be killed with proper cooking, it still may pose a risk to people who handle food improperly, and cross-contamination in the kitchen.
