An enemy is defined as someone who works against your goals. The South IMO was not an enemy of the USA as they could have done whatever they wanted. They just wanted independence.

There is no reason to venerate Hitler or especially having a Hitler statue on public property.

So you are admitting you know nothing about conservatism. I see.

See, you still don't know what conservatism is. It has nothing to do with religion, though acceptance of "a prevailing moral order" is one of the generally accepted precepts.

What about the First Amendment? I never advocated silencing anyone who wants to praise Hitler or Lee. I simply said that I don't like it.

Oh, and a case can definitely be made for removing these statues from government property. Ditto with religious paraphernalia. Tax dollars shouldn't go to this nonsense.

I never claimed it did. The two almost always go together in modern America politics, though. Relious social conservatism is mainstream in the GOP.

But yes, a conservative is a moron who hates government and who believes in a largely unregulated market. You wish to privatize as many things as possible, and heavrn forbid we have social welfare programs.

Speaking of Sherman and going, that statue of him in Central Park?

    Gotta go.

Genocidal psychopaths should not be honored.

Unless we want to, you know, end the insanity and refrain from allowing our shared cultural history from being destroyed by useful idiots being used for cynical political gain...

    :)

So you want the American house to remain divided against itself?

In fact, you want MORE division, blame and destruction of our shared cultural heritage.

    Cool beans!

If by "these statues" you mean ALL statues, I'm with you.

    Art, history, the whole shebang.

Gotta be thrown on the ash heap where it belongs.

Care to unpack how a Confederate soldier is in any way comparable to Hitler, and thus undeserving of remembrance?

    Yes.

    1. The Confederacy was a foreign nation at war with the United States.

    2. Nazi Germany was a foreign nation at war with the United States.

Now stop deflecting and unpack your bizarre claims.

By "these statues," I mean any statue of an enemy military leader funded by tax dollars or located on government property.

Well, at least you've come to grips with the fact there's nothing you can do about it.

    Too bizarre.

The Confederate States were a part of, and were subsequently subsumed into, the United States after brief rebellion.

To compare the Confederacy to the Third Reich is monstrously dishonest.

And to attempt to divide the nation based on selective outrage grounded in this dishonesty is at best tragic, and at worst a cynical exercise in attempting brief political gain by appeals to ignorance and desperation at the cost of our shared cultural heritage.

    Shameful.

    Why stop there?

Slavery is an affront to basic morality; the enemy of decency.

ALL statues celebrating slave-holders MUST come down.

The cherry-picking over what which slave-holder did?

    A dishonest game.

Because we admire Washigton and Jefferson despite their flaws. Simple, really.

Finally, you are making some sense. Get rid of all that crap and I mean all of it, no exceptions. Just take pictures to have some evidence and for the history books as well.

    1. The Confederacy declared itself a nation separate to the United States. For that brief time, they were. Accept it.

    2. I can compare the Confederacy to any other enemy we've fought. Sorry if this offends you.

    3. Enough with the theatrics. I'm not trying to "divide the nation." The Confederates already did that. And the idiots today who wish to venerate these Confederate leaders are still doing it.

    4. Shared cultural heritage? Hardly. I share nothing with the Confederacy. Yes, it's true that families werw divided by the war, but so what? When Americans join Al Quada, should I have sympathy for Al Quada? Nope.

Ironically, the non sequitur is when people who can't make real arguments randomly claim that their opponent is making a fallacy--without explaining why, of course--and then walks away. It's philosphy's version of "you're a snowflake" and "that's racist."

The "idiots" who seek to destroy our shared cultural history - their motives and their deeds - are the thing to fear.
