While We Were Still Enemies, Jesus Died for Us

…Yes, that is how God saw us when we were lost in our sins. We were His enemies. We were rebels. We were transgressors and sinners. We were “by nature deserving of wrath.”…

And it was in that very state, the state of being God’s enemies, that Jesus died for us. Yes, it was then that He set His love on us and laid down His life for us — when we were still scheming; when we were still immoral; when we were still corrupt; when we were still vile. That’s when He died for us, as He looked at the human race through all time, took full note of our evil, and laid down His life for us.

What extraordinary love. What mind-boggling compassion. What unmerited mercy and favor and grace.

We deserved nothing. He gave us everything.

We merited death. He died in our place.

What can we do in return but give the whole of our lives to loving and following and serving Him with all our hearts and souls?…

…But there’s something else to consider.

Jesus saw who we could be.

It’s true that He saw our sin and our guilt. He knew full well what we deserved. And tragically, if we refuse His grace, we will pay our debt in full.

    But He didn’t stop there….

…There are men and women who are Christians today who once were abortion providers. Some of them will tell you that they thought they were doing the right thing. They genuinely believed in the goodness of abortion — until their eyes were opened…

It’s the same with people who are practicing Muslims. Or staunch atheists. Or people with what we deem to be destructive political ideologies. (For all conservative readers, just think “Democrats.”) Some might even be our ideological or societal enemies, even sworn enemies.

But Jesus died for them too.

They too can be transformed, just as we were.

They too can receive forgiveness and new life, just as we did.

And in many cases, they too are acting “in ignorance and unbelief.”

So, while we engage in the culture wars and stay involved politically (and we do this without compromise or wavering), let us not think and fight as the world does, demonizing our opponents to the point of dehumanizing them.

Instead, let us ask God for His perspective, seeing the potential value in every human life, remembering that Jesus died for each and every one of us, and envisioning what the worst of our enemies could become on the other side of the cross….

Dr. Michael Brown, a well known op Ed writer for many conservative and Christian publications is full of great advice here. He is great at both mixing conservatism with faith on key issues of the day and advising us when the religious and political realms should be separate. In this article he reminds believers that no matter our differences of opinion with the other side of a political issue that we should see the other person as a future friend and ally rather than engage like them in name calling, personal attacks, and denigration of beliefs.

No matter who our worst enemies are or what they say or do, there is always hope that change can happen and that even our worst political and non religious opponents can see the light and believe….

Just what, specifically, had "we" done to deserve death?

How did Jesus die for us? He went away for three days. I've had longer lasting hangovers than that

I can't be bothered to comment on the other crap you posted

Did you not read it? Those who deserve death now are those that carry out abortions, those that are atheists, those that vote Democrat and those that are Muslim. How nice to wish death on them

I find it fascinating that grown adults actually believe the bull schitt that is religion. That is one hell of an indoctrination.

All have sinned and cone short of the glory of God. Jesus died in our place to pay the cost of sin for those who accept him in our lives. Those who do not will pay the price for sin again for themselves. “For the wages of sin is death” a price Jesus paid for us if only we accept Him as our savior.

He was killed and placed in a tomb and then resurrected as our Savior as foretold in Old Testament Prophecy. His life, death, and resurrection fulfilled each and every one of those prophecies exactly as written.

as to your other comment, it is sad that you choose not react to people who disagree with you on political matters.

Wrong. We are all sinners. None of us can be saved on our own or be in Gods presence in our condition. The price for sin has been paid. Those who believe will be in the presence of God perfect as Adam and Eve were created for all eternity. Those who reject this salvation will simply be separated from the presence of God for all eternity.

the saying goes that Jesus was murdered... all part of God's plan, he could not forgive our sins unless his son was murdered it seems

seems a weird limitation for a God, but ok...

it's also said Jesus got stuck in his dead body and could not escape it for 3 days

interesting discovery, the oldest bible ever found, seems to show the bible as it is known today is not as it originally was

"1500 Year-Old Bible Found In Turkey Is Stirring Up Controversy About Christianity"

    https://www.sunnyskyz.com/good-news...Is-Stirring-Up-Controversy-About-Christianity

""Much to the dismay of the Vatican, an approx. 1500-2000 year old bible was found in Turkey, in the Ethnography Museum of Ankara. Discovered and kept secret in the year 2000, the book contains the Gospel of Barnabas – a disciple of Christ – which shows that Jesus was not crucified, nor was he the son of God, but a Prophet. The book also calls Apostle Paul "The Impostor". The book also claims that Jesus ascended to heaven alive, and that Judas Iscariot was crucified in his place."

    From the article you cited:

"And rather than retweet (or re-post) the latest nasty, mean-spirited, derogatory, mocking comment or meme about one of the people we find it easy to hate, how about we stop for a moment and breathe a prayer for their redemption? What might happen if we did?"

Maybe you should take that advice to heart before you post your next thread painting Biden, Dems, and others on the Trump supporter naughty list as mortal enemies of you and the country.

I'm not sure that I should comment on a post that says those that carry out abortions, those that are atheists, those that vote Democrat and those that are Muslim deserve to die

Perhaps you should be watched after seeing you create this thread

Uh, make up your mind...you just said two conflicting things

Prove it....and Eve and Adam didn't last sin-free for long....so everything will just go on the same as before? What a stupid plan :)

Who made us sinners and why would any decent being do that ???????????????

So fetuses are sinners, too ? Sounds like there is NO "innocent life" on earth....no wonder the earth is such a mess, bad planning, bad intentions, nasty ideas...

Jesus also said "let him who is without sin cast the first stone." You must have lived an exemplary life as you throw multiple stones in your daily posts.

I watched a really good presentation on some biblical scholars discussing biblical texts — they were talking about people who use the lords name in vain, many think that means cursing god or saying GD but what they have arrived at makes much more sense….

Taking the lords name in vain is more about using the name of god to condemn others and to speak for him, turning people away from him. The punishment is pretty severe.

    Good luck

God is free to impose limits on himself as an act of His will. For example: God CANNOT judge the contrite.
