I agree. I think that whatever movement that has taken over the Republican Party is a recent movement. I don’t know what other term to use to call them. I don’t feel comfortable calling them Trumpians or anything like that because Trump is a product, not a leader of the movement. Whatever it is, it seems to have begun about the time Joe Coors put up the money to found the Heritage Foundation. They may have the greatest influence over Trump, as Sean Hannity is primarily a spokesman for whatever comes out of the Heritage Foundation, as well as having been the one’s who helped Reagan establish his platform. They came public about the time Newt Gingrich starting showing up on the nightly news.

This isn’t secret information. Just look up anything about Joe Coors or the Heritage Foundation. It isn’t like they operate in secret, even though they tend to not be very truthful. But then the other founders were preachers.

I’ve also read several articles in scientific magazines on the subject. It seems most studies put the number at around 75% of people who can be led to believe things that aren’t so, especially when an authority figure is involved.

That may be another reason that strong liberals are less likely to be so inflicted. Even though many right wingers like to pretend that liberals are authoritarians, the reality is that strong liberals tend to not be all that respectful of authority. In fact, with strong liberals, like freethinkers, the aversion to authority is one of their defining characteristics. It is why most innovators come from this class of thinkers.

However, one does see a lot of adherence to the authority of cultural tradition among conservatives.

It may be the innate instinct to question authority that prevented me from ever believing in a god, even as those around me nodded in agreement to whatever the authorities told them.

I’ve noticed this too. When one complains about how right leaning FOX News is, conservatives will often claim that NPR is the Left version of FOX. Being just as biased. I listen to OPB, Oregon’s NPR affiliate. Although they tend to lean left, I have never heard them trash talk others, as is common with FOX hosts, as well as most right wing radio talk show hosts.

According to the testimony from the impeachment hearings, Trump never asked for investigations. All Trump asked for was a public statement from Zelensky saying he was going to investigate, that Trump could use for personal political purposes.

I’m not like that at all. I check and double check my facts. Try to look up multiple sources.

When I first started posting on political forums, many conservatives talked as if it was a well known fact that conservatives were intelligent and liberals weren’t. It didn’t seem right so I began to look it up. I looked up government data, I looked up social science literature, and I looked up demographic data. No matter how I looked at it, the pattern was clear. A high concentration of college educated individuals translates to liberal political leanings while a low concentration leads to conservative politics. There is a third variable at play too. Religion. The pattern is clear, the higher the education, the lower the religiosity, the more liberal the politics. The lower the education, the higher the religiosity, the more conservative the politics.

I used to think that the intellectual divide was equal. It was only after repeatedly hearing conservatives claiming, in most derogatory terms, that liberals lagged behind the superiority of conservatives, that I began to do the research and discover the things I discovered.

 

On another thread were not telling me, with full of confidence, that all the impeachment hearing witnesses were third and forth hand witnesses. When in fact they all testified to what they heard and saw.

That Liberals have more empathy for others and are horrified by atrocities does not mean that they thing with their emotions. More than anything, it shows how cold and shallow many conservatives seem to be.

I though Trump was garbage 20 years ago. A fine example of how low brow television had become.
